Republican Speakers Of The House: From Bad To Disastrous!

The Republican Party has gone from bad to disastrous in their choosing of Speakers of the House in the past thirty years.

Dennis Hastert, the longest serving Republican Speaker in American history, eight years, from 1999-2007, seemed reasonable, but later was tried and convicted as a sex offender of teenage boys, and served time in prison, becoming the highest ranked elected official in American history to serve a prison sentence.

From 2011-2015, John Boehner served as Speaker, and got mixed reviews, as a major decline in reputation as compared to Democratic Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who served from 2007-2011, and later from 2019-2023. Boehner made it his mission to do everything possible to block President Barack Obama in any way imaginable.

Paul Ryan succeeded Boehner from late 2015-2019, and is considered to have been worse than Boehner.

Then, Kevin McCarthy became Speaker in 2023 after 15 ballots, and ended up serving only nine plus months, as he was voted out by his Republican caucus, and is considered to have been worse than any of his Republican predecessors.

And now, we have Mike Johnson, who is a religious extremist, rejects science and facts, and has proved to be a Donald Trump lackey, after having refused to certify Joe Biden’s victory in the Presidential Election of 2020.

The idea that these men were and are two heartbeats away from the Presidency is terrifying, and they make Nancy Pelosi stand out as one of the top few Speakers of the House in all of American history!

Antisemitism On University Campuses, Elise Stefanik, And Donald Trump

The weak response of University Presidents toward antisemitism on their campuses (as at Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the University of Pennsylvania) is reprehensible, and it is essential that all universities and colleges take this expression of hatred seriously.

However, the fact that New York Republican Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, who went from being a moderate to being a full scale MAGA Republican in support of Donald Trump, gained attention for being the member of Congress to confront university Presidents, should not be dramatized, and she should not be praised and applauded for her hypocritical stunt!

Stefanik is all but willing to accept all of the criminal acts and statements of Donald Trump, and she has nothing to say about Trump consorting with antisemites on a regular basis!

One must not forget that Trump hosted Kanye West and Nick Fuentes, well known and notorious antisemites, at Mar a Lago, and has himself embraced many other rightwing hatemongers of all stripes.

Stefanik refused to accept the Electoral College results in 2020, and is only too willing to accept any lies and deception of Donald Trump, so consider her “a wolf in sheep’s clothing”, not to be trusted or applauded!

Deterioration Of Donald Trump An Alarm Bell That He MUST Be Stopped!

Any sane person, and unfortunately, there seem to be millions of Americans who are not so, would recognize the mental deterioration of Donald Trump, and his threats to impose totalitarian authoritarianism if he is returned to the White House!

Trump thinks Barack Obama is still President, and has the delusion that he can be installed in the White House despite his loss to Joe Biden!

The evil people around him would be very dangerous, as they would do his bidding, and do not care about American democracy and the rule of law!

Whatever means are necessary to stop this lunatic are essential, as Donald Trump has shown us that he is dangerous to all of us in America and in foreign affairs as well!

There is an alarm bell ringing, and every step MUST be taken in every way possible, to prevent Trump from ever having the chance to destroy our nation’s traditions and heritage!

The End Of A Possible President Mike Pence!

Ever since Mike Pence became Vice President on January 20, 2017, the possibility of his accession to the Presidency remained a looming possibility.

The unstable and negative behavior of Donald Trump made this blogger and author think Pence might succeed to the Presidency rapidly in the early months of the term.

The constant crises and two Trump impeachments also put Pence in line for the Presidency, under the 25th Amendment, or the forced removal or resignation of Donald Trump.

Mike Pence stood for the rule of law in his refusal to help Trump steal the Presidential Election of 2020 on January 6, 2021, and could have lost his life that day if the circumstances and threats of that dark day had turned out differently.

Pence stood for the Constitution, and that will be his historic significance.

But he also was too much willing to bend to Donald Trump otherwise, even though Trump was as different in a moral and ethical sense as anyone could be from the highly religious Mike Pence.

Pence had no chance to become President for the next election, and has decided to leave the race, and he will have little impact on the future of a party which has, in so many ways, abandoned its principles. The Republicans have gravitated toward a total political disaster by following in the lead of the disgraced, twice impeached, four times indicted, and totally immoral and unethical former President Donald Trump.

So Pence will be seen as part of a Republican Party that is now in the distant past, as the so called Reagan wing of the party’s history goes into the distance as a lost memory!

Republicans Who Abandoned Their Principles And Supported Mike Johnson As Speaker Of The House!

This author and blogger wanted to give slack to 18 House Republicans whose districts voted for Joe Biden in 2020, but now realizes he was naive!

Many of these 18 House Republicans are part of the so called “Problem Solvers Caucus”, and yet, they voted unanimously for a hardline extremist right wing Speaker, Mike Johnson of Louisiana, who is more extreme than Kevin McCarthy, and similar to Jim Jordan, but with a more amenable personality, which effectively hides his extremist views!

So it is time to stop believing that there are any Republicans in the House of Representatives who can be trusted on doing what is proper and mainstream, and Democrats must work to defeat as many of these Biden district Republicans as possible in the upcoming Congressional Elections of 2024!

MAGA Republicans In Charge In House Of Representatives: Its Implications!

Having “slept” on the elevation of Mike Johnson to the Speakership of the House of Representatives, this author and blogger has woken up to the horrors of this MAGA Republican, who seems to be a “nice” person on the surface, but has horrendous views on so many issues!

This man, now two heartbeats away from the Presidency, is a rabid social conservative who is vehemently opposed to abortion, gay rights and gay marriage, and has a hardline Christian view of marriage and family, more like the 1950s and earlier!

Johnson also led the Election Denier movement in support of Donald Trump, and has never backed away from refusing to accept that Joe Biden is President.

Also, he has spoken in favor of changing Social Security and Medicare and Medicaid.

Johnson is the Speaker with the least government experience since the 1880s.

He is also not a supporter of Ukraine in its war with Russia under Vladimir Putin, and is likely to have a difficult relationship with President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.

So, while the whole fiasco of the Speakership battles is likely to harm the Republican Party in 2024, for the next year, and including through the lameduck session after the Presidential Election of 2024, there could be a massive crisis in acceptance of the election results with a Trump supporting MAGA Republican in charge in the House of Representatives!

New House Speaker Mike Johnson: An Election Denier! :(

Finally, the Republican Party has united around Louisiana Representative Mike Johnson, age 51, as their new Speaker of the House.

There was an urgency to elect a Speaker to stop the paralysis of Congress, but it is disturbing that Mike Johnson was an Election Denier over the Presidential Election Of 2020.

But now, with Donald Trump having backed his elevation, his becoming two heartbeats away from the Presidency, when Johnson is hardly a known figure, hopefully, he will act responsibly.

A social conservative, there will be clashes with the Senate Democratic majority and the Democratic President and Vice President, but for the moment, one feels give Mike Johnson some slack and let us hope for the best!

Seven Of Nine Contenders For House Speakership Election Deniers!

THe Republican Party has nine contenders to become Speaker, as I write this, and seven of them are election deniers, following the lead of MAGA Republican leader Donald Trump!

Only Tom Emmer of Minnesota and Austin Scott of Georgia supported the election results which made Joe Biden the 46th President.

About two thirds of Republicans in the House of Representatives refused to endorse the Electoral College results, a shocking statistic.

Emmer is the House Majority Whip and should be the next Speaker, but seems unlikely, due to the opposition of Donald Trump. Scott has served since 2011, and also did not challenge the election results in 2020.

With less than a month to November 17, and with two international crises in Ukraine and Israel, it is horrifying how the Congress is at a standstill, without much prospect of a solution anytime soon!

Jim Jordan Would Have Been A National Security Threat As Speaker Of The House Of Representatives!

This author and blogger, unfortunately, was offline for three days due to computer issues, but glad to be back!

It has been a tortorous few days watching the potential Speakership of Jim Jordan, who would have been a national security risk, as an Insurrectionist on January 6, 2021, and still refusing to accept that Joe Biden defeated Donald Trump!

Thank goodness it looks as if finally he is done as a candidate for Speaker of the House, which is only two heartbeats away from the Presidency, due to the Presidential Succession Act of 1947!

But the Republican Party is still a total mess, leaving the House of Representatives unable to meet its responsibilities!

A Turning Point Crisis In Israel Will Affect Presidential Election Of 2024!

The horrendous massacre and mass murder of Hamas against civilians in Israel, including the kidnapping of hostages, is uniting most Americans around the great, compassionate, and dedicated support of President Joe Biden and his administration toward the Jewish state in this moment of existential crisis.

Even many conservatives and Republicans are applauding President Biden’s statements and actions on this most significant crisis of 2023.

Meanwhile, the Republicans cannot even select a Speaker of the House, and former President Donald Trump has demonstrated that he is willing to attack Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on petty grounds that he accepted and acknowleded Joe Biden’s victory in the Presidential Election of 2020.

Additionally, Trump praised Hezbollah, the terorrist group in Lebanon, as being “smart”, alienating many Republicans with such an outrageous statement.

So one can expect that Joe Biden will gain mightily from his handling of the Israel-Gaza War crisis, not because of the fact itself, but instead the continued demonstration of compassion, decency, competence, and experience that Joe Biden has brought to the Presidency.

The Republican Party, and its likely nominee, Donald Trump, truly the equivalent of a “suicide mission” for the party, will suffer dearly as they well deserve to do so a year from now, by what is likely a smashing defeat in the Presidential and Congressional Elections of 2024!
