The general view is that “religious” Americans tend to vote Republican, siding with right wing, hardline, harsh views promoted by evangelical Christians, Catholics,Orthodox Jews, and other “religious” people of any other faith.
Sadly, most of these right wing “Religious” people are not pursuing the teachings of Jesus and other prophets, which promoted an open minded, “liberal” view toward people of all backgrounds, including racial minorities, all religious beliefs, women, gays and transgenders, and also the poor seeking safety and the opportunity to improve their lives (immigrants).
But lo and behold, the Democrats have nominated “Liberal” Christians in two Senate races:
James Talarico in Texas, Presbyterian Pastor in Training, seeking a Master of Divinity at Austin Prebyterian Theological Seminary. He is challenging Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who won the Republican Senate nomination over Senator John Cornyn.
Adam Hamilton in Iowa, Methodist Pastor–head of the United Methodist Church, the largest Methodist church in America, located in the Kansas City metropolitan area. He is challenging Republican Senator Roger Marshall.
These two states have a history in recent decades of being “Red” states, but the indications are that both Talarico and Hamilton have a good chance at winning the Senate races, and would represent a more inspirational view on the treatment of so called “marginal” groups who have faced great discrimination by pastors and ministers and politicians who promote discrimination and prejudice against these various groups.
And both Talarico and Hamilton pursue the same goal of openness and tolerance that Pope Leo XIV promotes as leader of the Catholic Church.
