Illinois Democratic Governor J B Pritzker Throws The Gauntlet Down To Donald Trump!

Illinois Democratic Governor J B Pritzker has thrown down the gauntlet to Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and MAGA Republicans.

In a speech in New Hampshire, Pritzker said it is time for Democrats to engage in mass protests, mobilization, and disruption, and not give Republicans a moment of peace.

The cruelty and callousness of Trump, Musk, and MAGA Republicans must be confronted directly and constantly.

Pritzker was NOT calling for violence, as White House Deputy Chief Of Staff Stephen Miller stated, as the reaction of the Trump Administration to the speech.

But Americans have the First Amendment right to march, demonstrate, hold the Trump Administration accountable in mass gatherings, as they did in the past, including most notably in the era of the Vietnam War!

Pritzker, the billionaire heir to the Hyatt Hotel fortune, is totally correct and inspiring, and he has been seen as a potential candidate for the Presidency in 2028, and with his Jewish heritage, he would mark a new direction if he were the party’s nominee.

A Half Century Since End Of Vietnam War, A Continuing Tragedy!

It is difficult to conceptualize that the most divisive moment in American history since the Civil War, the Vietnam War, ended fifty years ago tomorrow.

The tragic escape from the US Embassy in Saigon, South Vietnam, by the American military and diplomatic personnel, and many South Vietnamese trying to make it onto the helicopters, and many falling to their deaths, marked the end of an involvement by the US, lasting 20 years.

This caused the greatest loss of American lives, other than the Civil War and the two World Wars, a total of 58,000 American military personnel.

An involvement in the war begun by Harry Truman providing military and economic aid to France, beginning in 1950;

followed by about 2,000 “advisers”, under Dwight D. Eisenhower;

an escalation to 16,500 soldiers, including Green Beret combat forces, under John F. Kennedy;

a massive escalation to a final total of 549,500 soldiers in March 1968, under Lyndon B. Johnson;

and very slow withdrawal and dragged out combat until a peace agreement was finalized in March 1973, under Richard Nixon;

and then, the final collapse of South Vietnam by April 1975, under Gerald Ford.

The war divided the nation, as it was the greatest division since the Civil War, and so many survivors’ lives from the war effort suffered dearly, and many of them became victims for years after in so many ways, including those still alive fifty years later!

The nation owes a debt to these surviving veterans, which has never been fully repaid, and now, with cuts in the US Department of Veterans Affairs under Elon Musk and Donald Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency, the failure to follow through on proper treatment and benefits will be a continuing tragedy!

Inspirational Members Of Congress Fighting Trump

At a time when the Democratic Party has very low public opinion ratings, after the disappointing loss of Kamala Harris to Donald Trump, and the loss of three Senate seats, there are a group of inspirational members of the party in both houses of Congress who are actively campaigning in Republican districts, and speaking out with force against the terrible and tragic effects of Trump.

They include the following in the House of Represenatives

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York
Jasmine Crockett of Texas
Maxwell Frost of Florida
Robert Garcia of California
Ro Khanna of California
Jamie Raskin of Maryland

In the Senate, they include:

Cory Booker of New Jersey
Chris Murphy of Connecticut
Adam Schiff of California
Chris Van Hollen of Maryland
Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota
Bernie Sanders of Vermont

Some of these members, many of them very young, are seen as the long term future of the party, and some are perceived as potential presidential contenders in the future, including

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
Ro Khanna
Cory Booker
Chris Murphy

Of course, there are others, including state governors who are making clear of their pursuit of challenging the actions of Donald Trump, including

JB Pritzker of Illinois
Andy Beshear of Kentucky
Wes Moore of Maryland
Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania
Jared Polis of Colorado

So in the midst of difficult times, there are hopes for the future, as the “bench” of the Democratic Party is strong and vibrant!

The First Hundred Days Of Trump Second Term More Revolutionary Than FDR!

The First Hundred Days of Donald Trump, Second Term, is coming up on Wednesday, April 30.

The nation and the world have seen the most revolutionary, radical set of actions and statements by Donald Trump that the nation has ever witnessed.

One would have thought that Franklin D. Roosevelt’s First Hundred Days of the “New Deal” from March 4, 1933 to mid June 1933 would be a marker that would never be matched.

But Donald Trump has far surpassed the impact of FDR, and in many ways, trying to wipe out most of the last century and more of the federal regulatory state and the leadership of the democratic world in international relations.

Trump has demonstrated that Presidential power is way out of line, a growing problem since FDR onward, but with most occupants of the White House having good intentions in their assertion of power, unlike Trump.

The massive use of executive orders, 137 so far, an all time record for such a short time as President;

the threats and actions against universities, law firms, cultural institutions, corporations, state governments;

the bypassing of judicial interventions;

the Republican party in Congress refusing to assert their authority;

the growing dictatorial attitude of Trump appointees inside and outside the Cabinet;

the repudiation of our traditional alliances in world affairs;

the dangerous flirtation with protective tariffs that undermines the American economy;

the clearcut corruption and grift being conducted in clear vision;

and so much more not listed here,

all have created a whirlwind of chaos and anarchy that affects all Americans in deleterious ways!

Trump Destruction Of USAID, Department Of Education, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Federal Emergency Management Agency, And More! :(

As the nation reaches the end of the First Hundred Days of Donald Trump’s second term, there are so many shocking and disappointing developments.

One of the most disgraceful is the move by the Trump Administration to dismantle the following agencies of the federal government:

The US Agency For International Development
The US Department of Education
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
The Federal Emergency Management Agency

If indeed these four agencies are allowed to “disappear”, it will mean the US no longer cares about those around the world who are affected by disease, war, and poverty;

that US AID, created under the administration of John F. Kennedy will no longer exist;

that Education, which became a federal commitment under Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1953, and was made a separate agency under Jimmy Carter, will cease to be involved in setting national educational standards;

that protection of consumers, fought for by Elizabeth Warren under the Obama Administration before she became a US Senator from Massachusetts, will disappear;

that the promotion of federal aid to states and localities due to natural disasters, created in the administration of Jimmy Carter, will no longer be available;

that all of these humane and compassionate attempts to make government work for all Americans and the world community at large, will be wiped out, due to the lack of compassion and empathy of Donald Trump!

These agencies being destroyed will be a slap in the face of Presidents who cared about the nation and the world, and particularly against the memory of Jimmy Carter, who died just a few months ago!

This is a crime against America and the world at large!

Whatever “Honeymoon” Trump Had Is Gone, Based On Public Opinion Polls At End Of First Hundred Days!

Donald Trump supporters and the President himself love to say he has had a “honeymoon”, even though his 49.9 percent victory in the popular vote in the Presidential Election of 2024 was the worst since Richard Nixon in 1968 and John F. Kennedy in 1960.

But polls now coming out show Trump’s “honeymoon’, if it existed, is over, as he has the lowest public opinion rating after 100 days in office of any President since public opinion polls began decades ago.

Trump has 44 percent support in the Fox News Poll, down from 45 percent after the first hundred days of his first term!

Meanwhile, Joe Biden had 54 percent; Barack Obama had 62 percent; and George W. Bush had 63 percent at this point of their administrations.

This is a bad sign for Trump, who, one must recall, lost the popular vote by 2.85 million in 2016 and by 7.1 million in 2020!

Trump has never been able to gain majority support of the population at any time, despite his delusions that he is widely accepted!

And in The Economist poll after 100 days, Trump is rated even lower than in the Fox News poll, at 41 percent!

Trump, Vance, Rubio Are The New Appeasers, A La Neville Chamberlain!

It is very sad and disturbing that Donald Trump, JD Vance, Marco Rubio and the rest of the Trump foreign policy and national security team are defying the Republican record on Russia, which has always been strongly to repel the Russians, whether the old Soviet Union, or the present Russian Federation under Vladimir Putin.

The Republican Party prided itself historically as being tough on Russia, trying mightily to surpass the Democratic Party in that regard.

But really, all Presidents of both parties saw Russia as the ultimate rival that was a threat to world peace, and specifically to our European allies in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

But now, the Trump team is demanding that Ukraine concede the loss of territory to Russia in Crimea from 2014 and the more recent losses since 2022.

They also demand that Ukraine never be allowed to be a member of NATO.

What Trump and his team are doing is catering to Russia, and asking Ukraine to give up its sovereignty.

And for Trump to claim, wrongfully, that Ukraine started the war against Russia in February 2022 is an absolute outrage!

Trump, Vance, Rubio et al are practicing appeasment as Neville Chamberlain of Great Britain did toward Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany over Czechoslovakia in 1938, but that led to World War II the following year.

Giving in to bullies emboldens them further, but Trump and his team are not learning from history, and are endangering American national security as well as all of the NATO nations and our Asian allies!

This appeasement will only embolden China toward aggression against Taiwan, and North Korea to become a threat to South Korea and Japan!

Imagining A Ronald Reagan-Donald Trump Meeting!

Ronald Reagan, the 40th President of the United States, is honored and really worshipped by tens of millions of conservatives, seen as an icon of their beliefs in limited government.

But if Ronald Reagan was alive today, it seems very clear that he would be vehemently opposed to everything Donald Trump believes in and promotes.

Ronald Reagan believed in dialogue, and managed to work with opposition Democrats on major issues, and had Democratic Speaker of the House Thomas “Tip” O’Neill at the White House on a regular, friendly basis. Most famously, on the crucial issue of Social Security reform, the two men came up with an agreement in 1983 that helped promote the long term survival and extension of Social Security.

Ronald Reagan believed the solution to undocumented immigration, a constant reality over the decades at the US-Mexico border, was to promote immigration reform, as was agreed to in 1986.

Ronald Reagan understood the threat of the Soviet Union, and while supporting all efforts for dialogue and diplomacy, he knew that the nation needed to work to undermine Russian aggression as part of the Cold War.

Ronald Reagan clearly knew the danger of high protective tariffs, having lived through the Great Depression of the 1930s, with a major cause of that horrific economic disaster being the Smoot_Hawley Tariff signed by President Herbert Hoover in 1930, despite the entreaties of hundreds of economists.

Ronald Reagan believed in the power of oratory, and avoided “stirring the pot” of turmoil, and worked to unify the nation through his speeches and public utterances in times of celebration and also, of tragedy.

Ronald Reagan’s children, Ron Reagan Jr. and Patti Davis, have made clear their vehement opposition to everything MAGA Republicans promote under Donald Trump, and as do multitudes of conservative commentators, assert that Donald Trump is NOT a conservative of the Ronald Reagan stripe in any way!

Donald Trump lies incessantly, more than any President in American history.

Donald Trump works to divide and denounce anyone in his Republican party who dares to challenge him, as well as any opposition in the nation, as he conducts himself as an authoritarian figure.

Donald Trump is extremely nativist, connected to racism, and has no concern for the plight or the rights of any undocumented immigrant, and even is out to remove any foreign born individual that has moved toward citizenship, instilling fear by his massive deportation efforts without any common decency, compassion, or empathy.

Donald Trump is a known collaborator with the Russian Federation uncer Vladimir Putin, and is ready to give up our alliances with democratic nations around the world. He and his team, including JD Vance, Marco Rubio, and others in the Cabinet engaged in national security, are ready to abandon Ukraine, and cozy up to our long term rival that does not have our safety and security as their goal.

Donald Trump is ready to cause a new Second Great Depression in his incessant drive to impose high tariffs, which history tells us is suicidal economic policy. And Trump representa a threat to the longevity of Social Security, in his quest to cut government spending.

This author and blogger is NOT defending Ronald Reagan, who he considers terrible in many ways, BUT in comparison to Donald Trump, he is to be seen as in the main wave of conservatism, while Trump is clearly NOT a conservative, just an unprincipled opportunist, who is conducting himself in a Fascist authoritarian manner!

55th Anniversary Of Earth Day, But Trump Is Promoting Defiance On Environmental Issues!

Wisconsin Democratic Senator Gaylord Nelson is considered the brainchild of Earth Day, first celebrated on April 22, 1970, and embraced by President Richard Nixon, who went on to accomplish one of the best environmental records of all Presidents, considered just behind Theodore Roosevelt.

Later Presidents, and especially Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton (with the encouragement of Vice President Al Gore), Barack Obama, and Joe Biden—all Democrats—advocated for the environment, while Ronald Reagan in particular, and even more so, Donald Trump, have worked against facing the threat of climate change and global warming.

Instead, Trump is promoting drilling for oil and natural gas, mining for coal, and cutting down forest lands, all undermining the future of the planet, and American conservation of natural resources.

Already, Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum and Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin is on a campaign to reverse the great progress made under Joe Biden and earlier Democratic Presidents.

The Passing Of Pope Francis A Loss For The World!

The passing of Pope Francis this morning at age 88 is a loss for the world, not just for Catholics or Christians, but for all mankind.

He was a promoter of compassion, empathy, decency, and unity for all people, including people of all religions, of no religion, the poor and marginalized, the people who were outside the mainstream, whether in their economic circumstances or their sexual orientations.

He was a visionary on climate change, and the plight of refugees escaping persecution, violence, and hoping for a better life.

He also called for peace and reconciliation regarding the Russia-Ukraine War and the Israel-Gaza War.

Pope Francis humanized the Catholic Church, and it is hoped, but not guaranteed, that his successor will continue to promote the progressive trend that he advocated and promoted in his 12 years as Pope.
