The only way for the Republican Party to survive long term is to excise the cancer, the poison, that is the right wing media industrial complex, as well as Christian extremists!
This means that Conservative Talk Radio and Fox News Channel needs to be divorced from the GOP! And the same for right wing preachers who promote racism, and are control freaks!
So Republicans must tell Rush Limbaugh to go to hell, as a destructive force!
So Republicans must tell Fox News Channel, its owner Rupert Murdoch, and its self satisfied talk show hosts–including Sean Hannity and Bill O’ Reilly–and all of the other “guests” who spew lies, hate and propaganda, to take a hike!
Republicans must also tell Michael Savage, Michael Reagan, Mark Levin, Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin, Laura Ingraham, and Glenn Beck to drop dead!
And anyone not specifically mentioned above, but willing to enrich himself or herself by causing division and spewing poison, should be told they are no longer welcome in the Republican tent.
And finally, all of the Christian extremists, who think the government is supposed to be a theocracy, and wish to force their bigotry on women and gays, must be told that hell is waiting for them NOW, not later!
Hello Professor,
As you know, being a Republican with a family legacy of over 150 years of belonging to the Party……I relish and look forward to the purging of the cancerous, extreme aspects within my Party.
I applaud the opportunity of purging those “Pudgy Lard Tards†like what had shown up on this site spouting the non-thinking rhetoric that was so prevalent on “Blow Hard†radio and “Fox Propaganda†network.
I agree totally with you, and realize that I am a scholar on the Republican Party, having authored a book on “Progressive Republicans” in the West, years ago. You might want to look at it–TWILIGHT OF PROGRESSIVISM: THE WESTERN REPUBLICAN SENATORS AND THE NEW DEAL (Baltimore: The Johns Hopkins University Press, 1981).
I have always admired moderate-liberal-progressive Republicans historically, including in the 1960s and 1970s and 1980s, in the Senate and Governorships. The party has a lot to be proud of in its 158 years of history, but it needs massive “open heart” surgery now, to stop promoting hate, division, and religious extremism!
I will check out your books. Thanks for pass that on.
Engineer.. I’ m not far from your location on the shore. I am currently reading Professor Feinman’s book. I found it on Amazon and highly recommend it! Without doubt he is one of the foremost experts on political history, progressivism, and presidential election history. His penetrating analysis of current politics and ability to educate is second to none in my humble opinion.
In his book, Professor Feinman fashions a fascinating narrative that offers deep insight into the policies, personalities and principles of key individuals, especially Franklin Roosevelt during the 1930s.
Not being an astute student of history in my youth, I find I am thoroughly enjoying this educational journey not only through his book but also from his blog. I wish I had been as fortunate as others to have had a seat in his classes over the years. If his blog is any indication, I’m certain his depth of knowledge and boundless enthusiasm for his subject is contagious!
Wow, what can i say? I am totally flattered, and feel a responsibility to continue to communicate to my readers, as well as my students, of the importance of history, the significance of politics in our daily lives, and the role that progressive and liberal values have had, and will continue to have, in the story of the advancement of American democracy!
