Escalation Of War With Iran: The Challenge Of A Nation Very Large In Land Area And Population!

President Donald Trump has escalated the rhetoric and the military action against Iran, after one week of a war provoked by him and Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel.

So as the US engages in a war which Trump now claims could have “boots on the ground”, a horrifying scenario, it is time to examine the challenge of a massive war against Iran, with its large land area and large population.

So some numbers and statistics, which will make clear the massive challenge American troops might face, is in order.

Iran is the 17th largest nation in land area in the world, and is about one-sixth the size of the United States, one sixth the size of all of Europe, and one sixth the size of Canada.

Iran is one-fifth the size of Australia; about half the size of India; four times larger than Iraq; and 80 times the size of Israel.

Iran is about as large as the largest American state, Alaska; more than twice the size of Texas; and the areas of Texas, California, Montana and Illinois combined equal the area of Iran.

Also, the East Coast of the United States from Maine down to Florida is approximately equal to the land area of Iran.

Iran has about 92 million people, approximately one fourth of the population of the United States.

Iran is the 17th most populated country, along with being the 17th largest in land area.

Iran is a highly literate, highly educated nation which has more than doubled in population since the Iranian Revolution of 1979.

It is the ninth largest oil producer and third largest natural gas producer.

It is 77 percent urban and 23 percent rural, with much of the nation being subtropical in climate. It also has its capital, Teheran, which has about 9.6 million people, about one million more than America’s largest city, New York City.

For America to be at war with Iran is a massive challenge, and will not be easily resolved, and could be a war of long duration!

Trump-Netanyahu “War Of Choice” Escalates To Widespread Middle East Conflict With Iran Attacking Neighboring Nations!

The decision of Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu to choose to provoke a war with Iran is leading to a widespread Middle East escalation affecting all of the neighboring nations of the area, including

Kuwait
United Arab Emirates
Saudi Arabia
Bahrain
Qatar
Oman
Lebanon
Iraq
Jordan

This war came about without an “imminent threat” of Iran having enough potential for a nuclear weapon, and with negotiations going on between Iran’s Foreign Minister and Trump envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff.

This clearly was a war promoted by Benjamin Netanyahu, who has wanted this war for decades, but until now with Donald Trump, could not bring it about under earlier Presidents.

Barack Obama brought about a nuclear agreement in 2015, signed onto by the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Russia, and China, and yet Trump destroyed the agreement in his first term, with Joe Biden reviving it in his term, but with Israel knowing how to stroke the ego of Trump, and accomplish what Netanyahu has wanted for a very long time.

So Netanyahu effectively manipulated Donald Trump, and now we have a Middle East War that is creating chaos and anarchy, and is causing economic instability, with higher oil prices on the way, and no certainty of how the US will resolve the war, including whether combat ground troops will engage, putting America in a major morass as Iraq and Afghanistan were for the previous two decades.

The “Peace” President Has Bombed Seven Nations In His First Year Of His Second Term!

Donald Trump is obsessed with his desire to win the Nobel Peace Prize, so much so, that he, willingly, accepted the “gift” of the prize from Maria Corina Machado of Venezuela, who he is unwilling to support as the new President of that nation, despite her party’s victory.

This is outrageous and obscene to the extreme, weird and loony behavior on the part of Donald Trump, but he has no shame!

At the same time, he has managed to use military force and bombed SEVEN nations in his first year of his second term:

Venezuela
Iran
Iraq
Syria
Yemen
Nigeria
Somalia

And now, Trump is threatening military action to seize Greenland, thereby posing a danger to Denmark and all of NATO. And now, he is threatening new tariffs on our NATO allies, upping the ante of crisis in an alliance which has managed to protect the peace and promote unity for 75 years.

While one can certainly consider the 7 nations that were bombed as, in many cases, “problems”, who gives the United States the right to use military force to impose its will?

To the civilized world, including our NATO allies and friendly nations elsewhere around the globe, the United States under the leadership of Donald Trump has become the “lawless” nation, creating a crisis atmosphere, and a threat to world peace.

This can only encourage Putin and the Russian Federation, and Xi Jinping and China, and Kim Jong Un and North Korea in their own “spheres of influence”, to continue to take aggressive actions, making the world much more unsafe!

Donald Trump Obsesses On An Election He Lost, And Endangers America On COVID 19 And National Security

Donald Trump is wasting his last two plus months in office obsessing on an election he lost, undermining faith in American democracy at a time of America being endangered by the COVID 19 Pandemic, which he refuses to relate to, or care about the massive loss of life, now 250,000 men, women, and children after only 8 months.

Trump is also a danger to national security, with his reckless plan to attack Iran, and withdraw troops precipitously from Iraq and Afghanistan, undermining the fight against terrorism worldwide, and angering even many Republicans.

It has made this transition the most dangerous and tense since 1932-1933 (Franklin D. Roosevelt and Herbert Hoover), and 1860-1861 (Abraham Lincoln and James Buchanan).

Joe Biden faces a series of crises even greater than Barack Obama faced after his election in 2008.

A Delicate Time, As Reaction Of Donald Trump To Attack On Two Military Bases In Iraq By Iran, Could Lead To Total War In Middle East

Five days after the assassination of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani by orders of Donald Trump, Iran has reacted by attacking two US bases in Iraq.

This could lead to total war in the Middle East, including Israel and Saudi Arabia leagued against Iran, but with Trump not getting unified support from usual allies, such as in NATO.

Trump could be responsible for World War 3, as likely, China and Russia and Turkey would be leagued against us and with Iran.

This evil man is disrupting the entire world, as he has in the United States, and he cannot leave office soon enough, but already, the damage he has done will reverberate for many years, likely for decades!

Military Invasion Of Venezuela The Wrong Thing For America To Promote

The situation in the South American nation of Venezuela is horrendous, with massive starvation and suffering, under a horrible dictator, Nicolas Maduro, and his refusal to allow food and medical aid to come in from next door Colombia.

There is no question but that Maduro must be removed from office, but that is not through US military intervention directly.

The United States has used military force in Central America and the Caribbean on a irregular basis since the time of Theodore Roosevelt, and helped to overthrow the South American Chilean government of Salvador Allende in 1973 during the Richard Nixon Presidency, although in that situation, no US troops were sent in, simply collaboration with military generals.

But the changes in government promoted by the US invariably led to more harsh right wing dictatorships, and have undermined the relationship of the United States with its neighbors in Latin America.

Many foreign nations have withdrawn recognition from the Venezuelan government, and Juan Guaido, the leader of the National Assembly, has been declared the de facto interim President by that body.

Economic pressure and attempts to win over the military are appropriate by all nations which love freedom, but the worst possible action would be to send in military forces, which would incite civil war, and likely make America the villain, and cause a long intervention and the loss of many lives, both Venezuelan and American.

But it seems as if Donald Trump, Mike Pompeo, and John Bolton are bent on military action, just as they seem to be moving in that direction regarding Iran.

So we could have two massive wars as the 2020 Presidential and Congressional elections come upon us next year, just as with George W. Bush and Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld and unwise, and unsuccessful military interventions in Afghanistan and Iraq, which have undermined America, and cost a great amount of treasure, both human and capital.

The Death Of The 41st President, George H. W. Bush, At Age 94

This blogger woke up this morning to the news that the 41st President of the United States, George H. W. Bush, had died last night (November 30) at age 94, and five and a half months.

He had the longest life span of any President, although former President Jimmy Carter will surpass him in age on March 22, 2019.

Bush was one of the most experienced Presidents, with a tremendous resume particularly on national security and foreign policy issues. This included being a Houston, Texas, Congressman; United Nations Ambassador; Republican National Committee Chairman; Second Chief of the Liaison Office to the People’s Republic of China; Central Intelligence Agency Director; Vice President of the United States for two terms under President Ronald Reagan; and President of the United States for one term from 1989-1993.

Bush was an honorable, decent man, who knew his own shortcomings and admitted to it, but although he was the first Vice President to succeed his President by election since Martin Van Buren in 1836 after Andrew Jackson, he was unable to win a second term, losing to future President Bill Clinton, in an election which included businessman Ross Perot, who managed as an independent candidate to win 19 percent of the vote. This led to Bush having the second worst defeat for a sitting President, with 37 percent, only ahead of President William Howard Taft in 1912, gaining only 23 percent of the vote in a three way race with Woodrow Wilson and Theodore Roosevelt.

Bush will be best remembered for his leadership in the Persian Gulf War of 1991 against Iraq’s Saddam Hussein; his helping to end the Cold War with Soviet Union leader Mikhail Gorbachev and usher in the unification of Germany; the promotion of the North American Free Trade Agreement with Mexico and Canada; the concept of a “Thousand Points of Light” to encourage local activism to solve problems; the signing into law of the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990 to provide equal opportunity for those Americans with disabilities; and the appointment of two Supreme Court Justices, David Souter and Clarence Thomas.

His decision to support tax increases caused a challenge by conservatives, led by Pat Buchanan, in the primaries of 1992, which he overcame, but that plus the recession America was suffering at the time of the election, along with the challenge of not just Bill Clinton, but Ross Perot, making the campaign a three way race, led to his defeat.

Bush lived to see his son George W. Bush become President, only the second such situation, after John Adams and John Quincy Adams, and he had nearly 26 years of retirement, and the longest Presidential marriage, until his beloved wife Barbara died in April, after 73 plus years of a devoted couple, who brought up five children.

Bush is ranked near the middle of all Presidents, generally between 17 and 20, depending on the poll of 44 Presidents, with his failure to win a second term a factor in why he has not risen higher.

His impact on America, however, has been massive, and it is likely his ranking among Presidents will rise in the coming years.

The Destruction Of The “Special” Friendship, Relationship, And Alliance Between The US And Great Britain For A Century

Ever since the beginning of the 20th century, the United States and Great Britain have had a “special” relationship and friendship, and became allies in 1917 when the US went into World War I.

Theodore Roosevelt was very close to Great Britain in the first decade of the 20th century, and Woodrow Wilson was a known “Anglophile” in his writings and scholarship during his years as a professor and university president before he ran for public office.

While the alliance during World War I did not survive in the 1920s and 1930s isolationist period, we were still friendly toward our former mother country.

Then in World War II, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Winston Churchill became great allies and friends, as both nations fought against Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, and Imperial Japan.

After World War II, the United States became the leader of the free world democracies, and allies in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and the British fought in the Korean War, the Gulf War, and in the War on Terror after September 11 in Iraq and Afghanistan.

While the British did not send troops into the Vietnam War, they have always been perceived as our closest friends in the world, alongside Canada.

But now, Donald Trump has openly criticized the British government and its leader Theresa May, and Trump is the most unpopular American President ever in modern times by every measure.

This is a very sad situation, and it is clear that we have just witnessed the destruction of this special friendship, relationship, and alliance between the US and Great Britain.

Growing Danger Of Two Future Wars: North Korea And Iran

After 16 months in office, an unhinged President is bringing America more likely to two future wars–against North Korea and Iran–which will undermine America, with the prospect of the sacrifice of thousands, if not tens of thousands of American military personnel, along with the massive loss of life of civilians in East Asia and the Middle East.

It now seems clear that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is NOT going to give up nuclear weapons completely, as he well knows what happened to Libya and Iraq, when their leaders gave up their nuclear programs.

Kim Jong Un is manipulating an unstable Donald Trump, and is a lot smarter than our President, and this reality means the likelihood of our President using nuclear weapons against North Korea has grown.

Even if not nuclear weapons, the dangers of a conventional war would be disastrous to South Korea, Americans living in South Korea along with our military forces, and possibly Japan as well.

Meanwhile, breaking the Iran agreement when it is working, and in alienating Great Britain, France and Germany, all signatories to the agreement and not willing to abandon it, only increases the chances of war with Iran, a nation much larger in territory and population than Iraq.

So we are in gloomy times, and must hope that such dangers are somehow overcome.

Firing Of Rex Tillerson Likely The Beginning Of Another Big Purge As Trump Plans To Have Sycophants Surrounding Him, Making Him Ever More Dangerous!

Face the truth: Secretary Of State Rex Tillerson was a horrible cabinet officer, totally unqualified, having no background in diplomacy, and a detriment to the State Department and its long term future.

But having said that, Tillerson opposed Trump on many issues, and we know he said that Trump was a F—-Moron, which Trump. most assuredly, is!

But Tillerson was kept on until now, and now former Tea Party Kansas Republican Congressman Mike Pompeo, head of the Central Intelligence Agency, will replace him, which is not good long term, as Pompeo is a sycophant, and war with North Korea and Iran are much more likely events as a result. This would be a repeat of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq that George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld foisted upon us!

The fear is this is just the beginning of another big purge, as Trump clearly wants sycophants surrounding him, making him ever more dangerous in both foreign and domestic policy.

So expect more hard line, right wingers to take control, unless somehow Trump can be removed from office.

Expect John Kelly, White House Chief of Staff; H. R. McMaster, National Security Adviser; Betsy DeVos, Secretary of Education; Ben Carson, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development; First Daughter Ivanka Trump; son in law Jared Kushner; and Attorney General Jeff Sessions to be gone sometime later this year, and others may follow them.

This is not a defense of these people, who are all despicable, but simply a sign that Trump is out to “clean house”, and becomes more dangerous every day.
