Personal Scandals, Democrats And Republicans , And Accountability

The treatment and handling of personal scandals is totally different between Democrats and Republicans, with Democrats rapidly working to eliminate such individuals, while Republicans ignore the issue.

Examples of Democrats who were rapidly repudiated are:

Congressman Eric Swalwell of California, who dropped his bid to run for California Governor, and resigned from the House of Representatives, after being accused of sexual misbehavior.

Senate nominee Graham Platner of Maine, who had already won the nomination to oppose Republican Senator Susan Collins, but withdrew after being accused of sexual misbehavior.

Minnesota Senator Al Franken who resigned in 2018 under pressure after accusations of inappropriate behavior lodged by several women.

Examples of Republicans who have not been removed or withdrawn from future races include:

New Arizona House Nominee Mark Lamb of Arizona, who has been accused of inappropriate “sexting” and other such misbehavior while formerly being Sheriff of Pinal County, and also utilizing racist language, and yet claiming to be a loyal member of the Mormon Church.

Congressman Max Miller of Ohio, who is accused of engaging in violence against his ex-wife, the daughter of Ohio Senator Bernie Moreno, and also against former girlfriend Stephanie Grisham, who was White House Press Secretary for part of the first Donald Trump Presidency. But Miller is running for reelection.

Congressman Corey Mills of Florida, who is under investigation by the House Ethics Committee for sexual misconduct and dating violence. But Mills is running for reelection.

Considering that the President of the United States has been involved in multiple such sex scandals over the years, it is not at all shocking how Republicans overlook such scandals, and yet, claim to be “good Christians”!

One Week Away, And So Much News Occurring!

This blogger, author, and scholar has been away in Philadelphia for the past week, first time since 2008, visiting all of the historic sites and museums in that city, and also enjoying the musical “1776”, at the Walnut Theater, the oldest theater in America, going back to 1809 (the year of Abraham Lincoln’s birth), so now celebrating its 217th year.

While on vacation, so much news occurred, as one can never escape from reality, so we saw, among other news events the following:

Exposure of the abuses perpetrated by California Democratic Congressman Eric Swallwell, a leading candidate for Governor, forcing his withdrawal from that race, and resignation from Congress, a totally stunning event.

The continued conflict between Donald Trump and Pope Leo XIV, including Trump being depicted as Jesus, or being blessed by Jesus, a true blasphemy of the true teachings of Christianity. It has alienated millions of American Catholics from Donald Trump.

The surprising overwhelming defeat of Hungarian right wing leader Viktor Orban in national elections, a real blow to the Fascist orientation of both Orban, and of Donald Trump and JD Vance, who campaigned to save him, and failed massively, undermining both Trump’s image, and the future of JD Vance.

Growing indications that with the Iran War continuing,

and with growing criticism of many of Donald Trump’s Cabinet members,

and with higher prices affecting tens of millions of Americans,

and also the clearcut enrichment of Trump and his family against the emoluments clause of the Constitution,

that Republicans are on the road to massive losses in the upcoming midterm elections of 2026.

Many Members Of Congress Seeking State Governorships!

The number of members of Congress seeking nomination and election as state governors in the Midterm Elections of 2026 is a revelation of their disillusionment with being members of either branch of Congress.

Among those trying to be nominated and elected as governors are the following.

US Senate to Governor (3)

Tommy Tuberville, Alabama (R)
Michael Bennet, Colorado (D)
Marsha Blackburn, Tennessee (R)

US House Of Representatives to Governor (12)

Andy Biggs, Arizona (R)
Katie Porter, California (D)–former
Eric Swalwell, California (D)
David Jolly, Florida (D)–former
Byron Donalds, Florida (R)
John James, Michigan (R)
Deb Haaland, New Mexico (D)–former
Nancy Mace, South Carolina (R)
Ralph Norman, South Carolina (R)
Dusty Johnson, South Dakota (R)
John Rose, Tennessee (R)
Tom Tiffany, Wisconsin (R)

Of these 15 members or former members of Congress, at this point, the odds would be that eight will become Governors, including all three Senators:

Tommy Tuberville, Alabama
Michael Bennet, Colorado
Marsha Blackburn, Tennessee

and five House members or former:

Eric Swalwell, California
Byron Donalds, Florida
Deb Haaland, New Mexico
Nancy Mace, South Carolina
Dusty Johnson, South Dakota
