Paul Ryan: Does He Have A Future In Presidential Politics?

Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan, the Republican Vice Presidential nominee, received the most exposure he has ever had in the Vice Presidential debate last night.

Sadly, he told 24 myths in 40 minutes, and seemed uncomfortable at times, but considering his challenging one of the most experienced and qualified Vice Presidents in history, Joe Biden, he certainly came across as competent and able to hold his own in debate. Compared to other Republican Vice Presidential nominees, including Sarah Palin 2008 and Dan Quayle in 1988 and 1992, he came across well enough.

Does Ryan have a future in Presidential politics? The answer is most assuredly yes, as even if he loses with Mitt Romney 25 days from now, he has comported himself well enough, for his base in the Republican Party, to be a likely front runner for the GOP nomination for President in 2016.

Whether with his ideas and ideology he could actually win the Presidency is much in doubt, but at least he did not make a fool of himself, so likely will be heard from again, assuming he does not lose his Wisconsin Congressional seat next month.

WHAT? So you see a man utterly lacking in integrity, a man who wants to use government to enforce HIS social doctrine, and is totally lacking in human compassion for the most vulnerable in our society is on a straight line to the presidency? I hope I don’t live long enough to witness that.

You are misunderstanding what I wrote, Maggie!

I am simply saying that Ryan has potential to be a factor in Presidential politics, not that I endorse or agree with him in any fashion!

Face the facts: The GOP is NOT going to go left anytime soon, and they will always be a factor in Presidential politics, and Ryan will be a major player, whether we like it or not!

Read over what I said, and calm down, as I am NOT endorsing him, but simply saying he did well enough, as bad as it was, to make himself look better than Dan Quayle or Sarah Palin, and to be a factor in the right wing Republican Party future! I have no desire or wish to see him succeed, but he has become a major player in the GOP!

Professor I sincerely apologize that I gave the impression I thought you support Paul Ryan. Perhaps I had a “Romney moment” and” I didn’t word it elegantly”. I was just expressing 4 yrs of frustration over a party who has divided this country as deeply and possibly as damaging in some respects as the attitudes prevalent during the civil war. Paul Ryan stands at the forefront AND very much the future of this disintegrating party we used to call the Grand Old Party. There used to be STATESMEN among their ranks! Now their standard bearers are the Mitt Romneys, Paul Ryan’s and radical right wingers who are determined to use government to legislate their social doctrine down our throats. This current race is going to be close and NOT because people really like one candidate based on his record and policy, but because they have been brainwashed to hate the other candidate based on the color of his skin first and his political affiliation second. His record and policy does not matter to half, possibly more of the voters in this country. I feel my country is being torn apart at the seams that once held us together and at times I personally feel helpless. This leads to in inept expressions of distress in inappropriate forums.😩
I really want to thank you Professor Feinman for your blog. I find I’m usually checking your blog for the first analysis of issues in the current fast paced political arena .
