Confederate Heritage Being Promoted By Donald Trump, Despite Racism And White Supremacy History Of Civil War Rebellion

The Civil War ended 155 years ago, but for many people in the South and some elsewhere, they still revel in the Confederate heritage.

This is so despite the fact that the Confederate heritage is one of treason and promotion of the degradation that African American slavery represented.

It is one thing to teach about the history of the Confederate heritage, and it is fine to have public displays of Confederate heritage in museums

But in 2020, it is not acceptable to have such monuments and statues in public squares and on government property!

Whether one likes it or not, displaying such statues and monuments is promotion and endorsement of white supremacy!

The time has passed for such displays, and Donald Trump, a New Yorker his whole life, is ironically bitterly opposing any renaming of Confederate military bases, when a large percentage of the military in 2020 are non whites!

It is long overdue to take Confederate names off streets and schools, and recognize the multi ethnic and multi racial nature of 2020 America!

George Floyd Murder, And Trump Promoting Violence Against Peaceful Demonstrators A Turning Point In Upcoming Election

The feeling is developing that the George Floyd Murder by police in Minneapolis, and Donald Trump promoting violence against peaceful demonstrators in Washington DC, in reaction to that horrendous crime, is not just a passing event that will be forgotten by voters in November.

Never has an ordinary citizen, in his tragic death, gained so much public attention, and commitment to promote change, as is the case with George Floyd.

With all that has happened in the past three and a half years related to Donald Trump, this seems like the “last straw”, and that Trump knows it, so is going nuts in his Twitter feed and in his outrage at all of the attacks by former military leaders, religious leaders, and many other public figures to his criminal actions.

The concern is that Trump could go bonkers even worse than he has, and it could undermine our foreign policy and domestic policy as he strikes out against his “enemies”.

We are in the last seven and a half months of the Trump term, and it could be the most dangerous, not only in the five months to the election, but also the two and a half months to the inauguration.

Joe Biden Further Ahead In Polls For Early June Than Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, And John Kerry Were In Last Four Election Cycles

We have all learned from history that public opinion polls are not always accurate, but it is impressive, at least for now, that Joe Biden is ahead of Donald Trump in all public opinion polls in early June, further ahead of Donald Trump than Hillary Clinton in 2016, Barack Obama in 2012 and 2008, and John Kerry in 2004 against their opponents.

It is clearly not a reason for those who support Joe Biden to become cocky, and even lazy about campaigning for him, and for encouraging others to vote in November.

But considering the first five months of 2020, with the impeachment trial; the CoronaVirust Pandemic; the collapse of the economy to depression levels; and the Trump decision to fire tear gas, pepper spray, and have two helicopters threaten peaceful demonstrators in Washington, DC, who were protesting the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, one has to believe that the polls likely are accurate against Donald Trump.

Permanent Change In Campaigning: The End Of The William Jennings Bryan Personal Campaigning Mode, 1896-2020

Presidential campaigning in the 19th century was based on newspaper reporting of the various candidates speaking up on public issues, and speaking to small local crowds in the area nearby the candidate’s home.

The “Front Porch” campaign was common, as best exemplified by William McKinley in 1896.

But the same year, his opponent, young and vigorous 36 year old William Jennings Bryan, traveled by train across much of the nation, an estimated 30,000 miles to meet voters at train stations.

That was a revolutionary change in Presidential campaigning, and ever since, Presidential contenders and candidates, and even incumbent Presidents, have gone to the people to promote their cause and inspire voting.

But now, 124 years since William Jennings Bryan, and in the age of the internet and the CoronaVirus Pandemic, a new way of campaigning has developed.

Regular, every day internet events by Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden are becoming common, and President Donald Trump, of course, gets regular cable coverage, as well as on the internet.

This is a turning point, and is likely to prevail from now on, and the one advantage that stands out is the saving of energy and lowering of the exhaustion level of all candidates, by avoiding constant travel and 18 hour days of campaigning.

It is often said that campaigning for President is more arduous than being President, and it rings true, so we may have seen the last hurrah of regular, sustained, in person campaigning.

It does not mean that the President or Presidential candidates will not appear in person, but likely much less often, and this will also help to protect the President and Presidential candidates from the danger of violence and potential assassination threats.

Cheapening The Value Of 100,000 Plus Deaths: What Has Happened To Our Moral Values?

It is shocking and stunning how so many Americans seem perfectly ready to dismiss the fact that more than 100,000 Americans have died from the CoronaVirus Pandemic in three months, and 1,000 every day are being added.

That means by Labor Day, the total will be 200,000, and by Thanksgiving, will be 300,000, and this is assuming no major second wave.

The numbers are increasing in the South and West and in rural areas, while declining in the Northeast.

And this is not considering the reality that many people are not being careful, not wearing masks, not social distancing, and these demonstrations over civil rights and civil liberties in the past ten days have brought tens of thousands of people close together, endangering them and everyone they interact with.

It could be that the numbers will be much higher than 300,000, making it a year that could match the Second World War losses, or the Union side of the Civil War in loss of life, but both took four years, not nine or ten months!

And Donald Trump’s reaction is to move on, and ignore the pandemic, and just encourage everyone to get back to normal, which is not possible under the circumstances, as one can expect another shutdown of the economy if the predicted second wave occurs!

D-Day Plus 76: America Fought Fascism, But Now Has Fascist President Who Wants To Destroy The Constitution, And Must Be Stopped!

Tomorrow is the 76th Anniversary of D-Day, the invasion of France in 1944, as the beginning of the final defeat of Fascism, as represented by Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany, and to a lesser extent, Benito Mussolini, who had lost control of Fascist Italy in 1943, but was under Hitler’s protection.

We commemorate the sacrifice of Americans, Canadians and British on that day, often called “The Longest Day”.

Now, there are only a small percentage alive who invaded on that morning three quarters of a century ago plus one, as they are all in their 90s or are centenarians.

Part of the honor of celebrating D-Day is to fight the new Fascism, that of President Donald Trump, on display this week in Washington, DC, and his threat of the use of force in the states, with the US military being unleashed upon the American people and their right to demonstrate for redress of grievances.

The use of tear gas, pepper spray, and a low lying helicopter, and the President holding a Bible at the Episcopal Church next to the White House after the routing of the demonstrators, is a sickening image, that has made many former military leaders condemn Trump for his words and actions.

This is the biggest constitutional crisis since the Civil War, and yet we have reluctance of Republicans to speak up and resist, and we have Trump having praised foreign dictators and autocrats, including the leaders of Russia, China, North Korea and other nations.

There is no more significant event that will occur in 2020, than the quest to remove Donald Trump from office, as our constitutional system is in danger, and we cannot afford a second term of Donald Trump, who instead, belongs in federal prison for his crimes in office!

Two Men With Common Trait Of Empathy, Compassion, And Humanity, Born 17 Years Apart: Robert F. Kennedy (1925) And Joe Biden (1942)

Tonight, June 4, a tragedy occurred 52 years ago, just after midnight so early June 5, the shooting of Senator Robert F. Kennedy just after he had accepted victory in the California primary, and seemed likely on his way to becoming the Democratic Presidential nominee in 1968.

This author and blogger was watching when RFK was shot and mortally wounded early on June 5, and passed away about 26 hours later, on June 6, 1968.

The world changed, and has never been the same, and one could say the whole history of the past half century could have been dramatically different had Kennedy lived.

It is not that RFK was perfect, and there was no absolute certainty that he would have been the nominee against Richard Nixon, or would have defeated him.

But there are many who think RFK was our destiny, and he was taken from us tragically.

With his faults and shortcomings, which all political leaders and all of us have, what stood out about RFK was his empathy, his compassion, his humanity.

Now, a half century later, we have a Democratic Presidential candidate, Joe Biden, who has similar traits of empathy, compassion, and humanity, and who was inspired as a young man by what RFK represented. Biden was in his mid 20s, and starting his nearly half a century of public service as a US Senator for 36 years and Vice President for 8 years.

And imagine the irony: Both RFK and Joe Biden were born on November 20, in 1925 and 1942 17 years apart!

It can be hoped that what RFK represented can be accomplished in some way by Joe Biden, when he, hopefully, will take the oath of office as the 46th President of the United States!

Opposition Rapidly Growing To Donald Trump As Election Is Five Months Away

Former Secretary of Defense James Mattis

Former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and US Navy Admiral Mike Mullen

Former Lieutenant General Russel Honore of Joint Task Force Katrina

Conservative Author George Will

Conservative Evangelical Leader Pat Robertson

Conservative Propagandist Ann Coulter

Just six individuals who has remained silent and no longer are doing so.

Donald Trump is rapidly being assaulted politically, and the fact that his Secretary of Defense Mark Esper is now in trouble for speaking up on the horrendous incident where pepper spray and tear gas was used on peaceful demonstrators outside the White House is an indication that Trump is being challenged in a multitude of ways more every day!

Donald Trump Unleashes Rubber Bullets And Tear Gas On Legal Protesters: When Will Elected Republicans Speak Up?

Donald Trump is an authoritarian Fascist, and it showed through last night when he ordered the unleashing of rubber bullets and tear gas on legal protesters, so he could walk to a church and hold a Bible. He was trying to show how “religious” and “tough” he is, after threatening, illegally, that he would send military forces into the states, against the wishes of their governors, to quell the demonstrations related to the George Floyd murder in Minneapolis.

And in the midst of this outrage, not one Republican Senator or Governor, other than Lisa Murkowski to some extent, has spoken up in denunciation of Trump’s dictatorial bent.

The party has lost all credibility, and yet, at the same time, conservatives who are not in the government, have come out against Trump in large numbers, including most recently those in the Lincoln Project headed by George Conway, husband of Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway!

Hopefully, most of the elected Republicans who are coming up for election this fall will be retired by voters!

Donald Trump Striving To Be Dictator, And Time For Action To Force Him Out Of Office!

Donald Trump is striving to be a dictator, claiming the right to send military forces into states to deal with the mostly peaceful protests to the death of George Floyd.

He claims the Insurrection Act of 1807 allows him to do what he wants, but that is not the truth!

It is sadly true only in the District of Columbia, which is not a state, and in 1968, after the death of Martin Luther King, Jr, armed troops were deployed in a time of civil disobedience, a horrendous moment in American history, leading to thousands of arrests and ten people killed!

The only time a President can utilize that law in the states is if a state governor refuses to obey federal courts, as with Arkansas in 1957 under President Dwight D. Eisenhower, and Mississippi in 1962 and Alabama in 1963 under President John F. Kennedy, when those states refused federal court orders to integrate.

The state governors would have to agree unanimously to allow the President to take charge throughout the nation, and they are not about to do that under any circumstances, as it is governors who control the National Guard.

A suggestion by George W. Bush to allow such intervention by order of a President was unanimously repudiated by all 50 state governors in 2006, and was dropped as an idea!

So Trump is simply claiming a right he does not have, but the time has come to force him out of the White House by mass demonstrations that will force him to leave, as he is destroying the nation in a time of a pandemic, a depression, and massive racial abuse by police authorities!

We could be on the verge of civil war the way things are going, but the Constitution and Bill of Rights must survive!
