Maryland On The Way To Electing The Third African American Governor, Wes Moore!

In the midst of an election year where there is some fear and trepidation for the Democratic Party, the state of Maryland is a complete alternative.

Maryland is on the way to electing the third African American governor in American history, Wes Moore, who is far ahead of his Republican opponent, Dan Cox.

Moore defeated former Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez for the nomination, a surprise to many observers.

Only Douglas Wilder in Virginia in 1989 and Deval Patrick in Massachusetts in 2006 have succeeded as African American gubernatorial candidates before Wes Moore.

Wes Moore has had an interesting career, with military service for eight years in the US Army, including service in Afghanistan and the 82nd Airborne Division, and graduated from Johns Hopkins University, and was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford.

Moore worked in several government positions; became an investment banker; founded a television production company; and then was CEO of the Robin Hood Foundation, a charitable organization to help alleviate problems caused by poverty in New York City. He is the author of several books, and is seen as a rising star in the Democratic Party.

Some observers think he is someone to watch for national office at some point in the future.

Violent Attack On Speaker Pelosi’s Husband Just Tip Of The Iceberg, Incited By Donald Trump!

The violent attack on Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband, home alone at their San Francisco home, is shocking, but just the tip of the iceberg, as it is just one of many threats against members of Congress and their families.

It is clear that this incident was an assassination threat against Pelosi, had she been present.

Most of the threats are against Democrats, and are promoted by MAGA domestic terrorists backed by Donald Trump.

Notice that Trump has NOT expressed his sympathies and denounced this attack, and by having no comment, is endorsing the violence!

Some Republican leaders have spoken up, but many have encouraged such attacks, including Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebet, Matt Gaetz and others!

There is a need for protection of the homes and close family members of top leadership, as one must realize that the Speaker of the House is second in line for the Presidency.

So this incident represents a second attempt of Trump and his supporters to threaten the life of Nancy Pelosi, after the January 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol, where Trump remained silent, as the threat against Pelosi and Vice President Mike Pence, first in line of succession, occurred.

Donald Trump needs to be held accountable for these threats, a situation that has never occurred before for the top leaders in the Presidential succession!

The threats against President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are a great concern, and if Republican Kevin McCarthy becomes Speaker of the House in 2023, and Iowa Republican Senator Chuck Grassley become President Pro Tempore of the Senate, there will be a need for increased security for these leaders who would be next in line for the Presidency in case of a tragedy!

Three Crucial Gubernatorial Elections Of Women In Upcoming Midterm Elections!

There are three crucial gubernatorial elections coming up in 11 days, that involve Democratic women who can prevent extreme right wing Republican attempts to interfere with electoral vote count in the Presidential Election of 2024.

They are incumbent governor Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, facing a right wing lunatic, Tudor Dixon; Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs running for Governor against another right wing lunatic, Kari Lake; and Georgia gubernatorial nominee Stacey Abrams, running against her 2018 opponent Brian Kemp.

It is urgent and essential that all three win the Governorship, but they are not the only significant gubernatorial races, far from it!

Imagine A Potential Republican Presidential Primary With Four Floridians In Spring 2024!

The potential exists for four Floridian Republicans to be running for President in the 2024 primaries.

Former President Donald Trump; Florida Governor Ron DeSantis; and Florida Senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott are all potential contenders for the Republican Presidential nomination in 2024, along with a massive number of other potential candidates, numbering in the low 20s as a total!

Already, there is a growing rivalry between Trump and DeSantis, and Trump is coming to campaign for Marco Rubio next week, but has not invited DeSantis to the event!

So the confrontation between two massive egos has begun, and it should be fun to watch, particularly since Rubio and Scott are also intent on running for the Presidency in the same cycle!

Republicans Plot To Use Impeachment Weapon Against Biden Presidency!

With the Midterm Elections of 2022 around the corner, it is becoming clear that the Republicans, if they win control of the House of Representatives, will go on the warpath against the Biden Presidency.

Kevin McCarthy will be, sadly, beholden to Donald Trump and the MAGA crazies, including Jim Jordan, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert, Matt Gaetz, and a whole group of others in the “Freedom Caucus”.

So we can expect impeachment moves against Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Attorney General Merrick Garland, and Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas.

Impeachment will be used, because it was used twice against Donald Trump, but the difference is that Trump was involved in impeachable acts, and in the case of Joe Biden and company, the Republicans will have to conjure up ridiculous charges!

So the Republicans will create chaos and anarchy and disarray, and will undermine American economic policies, and foreign policy, including wishing to abandon Ukraine and favor Vladimir Putin!

Face the facts: the Republican Paty has become a Fascist authoritarian group, promoting white supremacy, racism, nativism, and misogyny, and cozying up to Vladimir Putin!

The Republican party is no longer a party of distinction, and decent Republicans will try to organize a new Conservative Party to replace the disgrace that the Republican Party has become!

12 Days To Go, and A Nail Biting Election Coming Up!

This author and blogger cannot recall the tension and emotions that are being felt around the upcoming Midterm Elections of 2022 ever being quite as intense in past cycles.

It could be a poor memory, or seeing the past with rose colored glasses!

But literally, EVERY Senate race, EVERY House race, and EVERY Gubernatorial race is so significant for the future of American democracy, which is on the verge of being lost to the MAGA Republicans and Donald Trump!

With only about six vote margin in the House of Representatives, and an evenly split US Senate for only the 4th time in American history, and with Governors having tremendous power and influence on an issue such as abortion rights, every citizen needs to vote!

Last night’s debate in Pennsylvania leaves one worried about the performance of John Fetterman, as it could be the Senate election that decides Senate control in the 118th Congress. But also, the Georgia race of Raphael Warnock; the Ohio race of Tim Ryan; the Wisconsin race of Mandela Barnes; the North Carolina race of Cheri Beasley; the Florida race of Val Demings; the New Hampshire race of Maggie Hassan; the Nevada race of Catherine Cortez Masto; the Arizona race of Mark Kelly; and the Iowa race of Michael Franken, are all crucial.

And Governorship races, particularly in Michigan with Gretchen Whitmer; in Arizona with Katie Hobbs; in Florida with Charlie Crist; in Texas with Beto O’Rourke, are all significant for the future!

A New Generation Of House Of Representatives Democratic Leadership Is Likely To Come!

No matter what happens in the House of Representatives in November, it is time for a new generation of leadership in the Democratic Party.

Nancy Pelosi has been an exceptional Speaker from 2007-2011, and now from 2019-2023, but at age 82 and 36 years as a member of the House of Representatives, it is time for change!

The same goes for Steny Hoyer, age 83 and House Majority Leader, who has been in the House for 42 years, and also for James Clyburn, age 82 and the House Majority Whip, who has been in the House for 30 years.

This team has done a great job, but all being octogenarians, and dominating for so long, it is time for a younger generation to take over, and there are excellent candidates, whether the Democrats keep control of the House of Representatives, or go into the minority for the next two years!

Hakeem Jeffries of New York is the likely choice to be Speaker or Minority Leader, and would be the first person of color in that position. But Adam Schiff of California will probably challenge him, and would be the first Jewish person to be Speaker or Minority Leader.

Katherine Clark of Massachusetts would be the frontrunner for the Majority Leadership, but will be likely challenged by Pramila Jayapal of Washington, who would be the first Asian American in that position, but with either being a woman.

For the third ranking position, Peter Aguilar of California, who is Hispanic, has the advantage, but Joe Neguse of Colorado, who is of Eritrean (Africa) heritage, would be likely to contend for the post.

So there would be great diversity in the Democratic leadership, although Pelosi and Clyburn already have been an example of gender and race diversity in their years of leadership!

With Two Weeks To Go, Voter Enthusiasm And Participation Is Highest For Midterm Election!

With early voting having begun, already there are strong indications of voter enthusiasm and commitment, so the participation in voting in midterm elections is on the road to an all time high level.

The question that remains unanswered is whether the enthusiasm is centered about the danger to American democracy presented by MAGA Republicans and Donald Trump, and the issue of the Dobbs V Jackson women’s Health Organization Supreme Court case on destruction of abortion rights as was declared in Roe V Wade a half century ago.

The polls are so conflicting, and often have been incorrect, after the fact, so there is a waiting game as to how the American people at large are expressing their views.

Hopefully, we will not discover that Donald Trump and his minions have managed to “pull the wool over one’s eyes”, and have Trumpites showing greater strength than the approximate one third of the population believed to be vehement Trump supporters!

Most Dangerous Times Since Cuban Missile Crisis 60 Years Ago This Week!

Sixty years ago this week, America and the world faced the potential of nuclear war, during the Cuban Missile Crisis in the time of the Presidency of John F. Kennedy and Soviet Union Premier Nikita Khrushchev.

It was a very terrifying time, which this author and blogger, a college freshman at the time, remembers very well, but thankfully, the issue of possible nuclear confrontation was resolved peacefully.

Now, however, the threat of the Russian Federation under Vladimir Putin, in its eight month war against Ukraine, using nuclear weapons, presents a challenge as great as sixty years ago.

Now we have President Joe Biden leading the challenge to Russia, with the support of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), but the Republican opposition, led by potential House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, is indicating that it will not insure continued military and financial support to Ukraine.

This is exactly the wrong message to give to Putin, and encourages him to continue his aggression, which presents a real threat to all NATO nations!

So we could be facing World War III, a horrifying concept, and Joe Biden will have to fight in the way that Franklin D. Roosevelt fought eighty years ago in World War II, to refuse to reward aggression, which will only make the world more dangerous!

January 6 House Committee Subpoena To Trump, Just As We Learn He Had China And Iran Security Documents At Mar A Lago!

The January 6 House Committee has issued a subpoena to Donald Trump, calling for documents by November 4 and testimony around November 14, a dramatic development!

And as this is revealed, we learn that Donald Trump had China and Iran National Security documents at Mar A Lago, a shocking revelation!

If anyone else had participated in such pilfering of national security documents, such person would have been arrested and incarcerated before trial!

It is time, once the Midterm Elections of 2022 are over, for Attorney General Merrick Garland to move forward on indictment on a number of charges!
