The Move Is On: RECALL RICK SCOTT As Governor Of Florida!

Florida Governor Rick Scott has managed to alienate just about everyone in seven weeks in office, with his outrageous budget proposals that would destroy the Florida Retirement System and demonstrate total disrespect for the hard work and sacrifices of Florida’s public servants; his arrogance toward the news media and refusal to communicate with the public; and now his rejection of $2.4 billion for a high speed rail project from Orlando to Tampa, as part of the federal commitment to the future of transportation in the United States.

He has succeeded in alienating not just labor, progressives and Democrats, but his own party in the state legislature, which although more than two thirds Republican in both houses, has witnessed shock, dismay and anger at this man who ran against the Republican establishment, basically “bought” the governorship with a $73 million personal fortune investment in the campaign, and now seems not interested in working in a cooperative manner with state Republican leaders.

It is now clear that the legislature, when it meets in March and April, will NOT go along with much of what Governor Scott wishes to impose on the state. With his scandalous and corrupt involvement in Medicare scams in the 1990s, and now his hard line stubbornness and insistence on things being done his way, there will be major battles within his own party as to the direction of the state and its finances!

And now there is the beginning of whispers and more about the idea of passing a state law allowing recall of state officials, something not allowed in the Florida Constitution, but permitted in 18 other states.

If the legislation, proposed by a Democratic state legislator were to be adopted, there would be a four month period to circulate petitions, with signatures required in all 67 counties. At least 15 percent of the total number of votes in the last election would have to be gained. All state officials, including the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and state cabinet officials could be recalled.

Since Scott won the Governorship by only about 50,000 votes statewide, it would seem likely that if a recall campaign was mounted, that it would be likely to succeed, because one must remember, many Republicans in the legislature and statewide are clearly uncomfortable with the arrogance and abusive manner of Rick Scott!

Recall is a progressive reform first adopted in Wisconsin under the great progressive governor, Robert LaFollette, Sr. in the early 20th century, and the voice of the people should be heard, not only in Florida, but also in Wisconsin, Ohio, New Jersey, Texas, and other states where the Republican governors are acting in an arrogant, abusive way which harms the states and the citizens they are supposed to serve!

Yes, let us all hope and pray that this piece of legislation goes through before this man can do too much damage to my beloved state. How this man won the Governors race still baffles me, but it is the people that voted for this idiot, the majority on Medicaid, poor and elderly wold be hurt the most by this heartless thief.

  2. Paul Citro February 20, 2011 12:53 pm

We should call him Chain Saw Scott.

  3. Jason C February 20, 2011 6:01 pm

He is going to destroy Law Enforcement, Corrections, Fire Fighters and teachers. The basic professions that the general Public counts on. We must recall this man!!!

He is a crook and the only reason he ran for goverment is because of his involvment in private hospitals so that he can line his own pockets!

  4. Bonnie Moeller February 21, 2011 1:19 pm

He was not honest in telling the truth.

  5. Peter February 21, 2011 2:07 pm

I can not believe this guy was actually voted in as governor. Florida must stop this arrogant rich idiot. Please let me know where to protest, sign, vote….whatever it takes to get rid of this lunatic.

Rick Scott, a multi-millionare, a person who scam, lies and manipulates, for personal gain. He is using Florida as a steping stone to access the big money at the Federal level. A self-centered idiot, out to distroy Florida, for personal gain. He is reckless, Careless, and imposes a dictatorship when questioned about his motive. Not should if he sold the state’s planes, but if he did; The state will have to buy new when this idoit leaves office. STOP FLORIDA DESTRUCTION, RECALL SCOTT……….

  7. Mark February 22, 2011 10:49 am

I worked for the RECALL of Governor Evan Mecham in Arizona…and we WON. Ultimately Mecham sank his own ship by taking from a slush fund to pay bills for his used car dealership. The legislature IMPEACHED him, but he was facing a RECALL vote that he would have lost. IT CAN BE DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Governor RICK SCOTT IS A CROOK,and a LIAR. I think that anyone that pays $72 million for a job that only pays a few hundred thousand is in it for the BIG BUCKS, while he destroys all support systems for anyone who is not wealthy.

STOP THIS MAN!!! RECALL SCOTT NOW!!!

The unfortunate part about House Joint Resolution 785 is that it won’t even go on the ballot until November of 2012. Emperor Scott may just get himself indicted before then- we can hope. I had the unfortunate experience of working for him when he was the CEO of HCA. He was then, and still is an obnoxious, arrogant, disgusting micromanager. How about well get together and buy him a yacht- to replace the plane? Next, we map out a leisurely trip to Somolia. 🙂

  9. Kathy Waltz February 27, 2011 6:49 pm

Help me find the petition so we can do what needs to be done. He has to go before Florida is in ruins. I know voters that are ready to sign their name and undo the mistake made in November.

Contact your House Legislators and Speaker and tell them to support and pass both bills!

    Sample Message:

As a constituent, I strongly support Rep. Kriseman’s legislation, House Joint Resolution 785 and House Bill 787 to permit the recall of state officials. I am confident that you and your colleagues agree that honest and dedicated elected officials will have nothing to fear from the implementation of this important proposal. 18 states now permit the recall of state officials. Florida should join them.

I strongly urge you to hear and pass both bills.

  11. Ally March 3, 2011 10:50 am

I may have to move back to Florida in order to care for my elderly mom (and I’m also what you would consider a “senior” citizen who must still work for a living). I pray that Rick Scott will NOT be in office or at least going out the recall door by the time I get to Florida. People like him scare the willies out of me!

  12. Eugene March 5, 2011 9:16 am

The citizens of Florida must put forward our own proposal for a constitutional amendment of recall. Let get it on the ballot for the 2012 cycle. The energy is very high will get stronger though the 2011 session. Many people are truly angry at this governor; We might get something positive out of a really negative – recall power! a progressive concept. 2012 is closer than you think.

When this recall effort starts: Governor and Legislator will refocus on the amendment and maybe not be destructive because they don’t to p-off the people. Why? at the end of the day they care about power of office not serving the people. We can use this as a controlling factor.

  13. Keith C. March 6, 2011 11:07 pm

November 2012 is not soon enough! One thing it would do is bring out more Democrats and Progressives in the election that would all ready be voting for the re election of the president, this needs to go to a vote to the state NOW!

  14. Scott March 8, 2011 12:40 pm

It’s a sad time in Florida’s history when just enough voters were able to install this dishonest tyrant in the Governor’s mansion. It’s beyond belief that people learned of his crooked background, and yet still voted for him. Good God…has half the state gone daft? I’ll sign any petition, and place, at any time, to remove this repulsive despot from Tally.

  15. Mary K, March 8, 2011 6:12 pm

Like everyone ahead of me, in this column….PLEASE tell us what we can do, in protest of this man?

We can not wait for a Resolution to Recall be voted in. We need to stop him now, before he does more damage to Florida.

  16. Ronald March 8, 2011 9:07 pm

Unfortunately, there is nothing rapid that can be done regarding recall, and impeachment is not in the offing. It will take time to accomplish this, and hopefully, Scott may bend in the face of reality, but in any case, it is not a good time for Floridians!

  17. Spitfire March 9, 2011 9:30 pm

It’s time to Recall Rick Crook Scott. Who took office by the old margin of error, 1%.

  18. Mel Dier March 10, 2011 4:15 pm

Lay out decisive steps to make this happen….

Where does the average person sign, thats the only way they have to voice /document their displeasure….

How do we go about recalling Governor Scott? On the basis of his recommended strategies, he will frighten business away from Florida and will kill the economy. Not to mention getting rid of state funding for our public libraries. He’s one sick cookie.

  21. Ray Del Papa March 25, 2011 12:35 pm

Rick Scott is Evel to the 10th degree. But the chances of recalling him is not going to happen. And making people think he can be recalled is wrong. The earlest a recall could happen, would be in two years. It is better to find other ways of fighting him. Put your energy into driect actions, not recall pations

  22. MarvinM March 25, 2011 3:25 pm

I need to do some further research on this, but when I was following the travails and travesties that was the Tax and Budget Reform Commission some 4 years ago now, I remember reading something about how the TBRC was so powerful because it had the ability to put something directly onto a general ballot. I also have a vague memory that it outlined all the other ways something could be put on a general ballot. and that included something about petitions. I’ll go do more research, but it is not impossible that with a massive effort, Floridians could get a recall measure on the Nov. 2011 ballot. That would be great, as it would certainly bring people to the polls!

  23. Maggie March 25, 2011 11:01 pm

Governor Scott eptomizes the word EVIL !!!!!!!!!!! Petitions need to be generated NOW!!!! Too many citizens of Florida’s lives are being DESTROYED by him .. What are we waiting for………. If there is a recall vote today – the turnout out similiar to Obama’s turnout……… YES, WE CAN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. Brigitte March 26, 2011 10:35 pm

That’s right. It’s time for a recall and here are the steps:

STEP 1: Locate your local representatives: https://writerep.house.gov/writerep/welcome.shtml and http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.myfloridahouse.gov%2FSections%2FRepresentatives%2Fmyrepresentative.aspx&h=0a7a1

STEP 2: Here is a formatted letter if you wish to use, in which you can copy/paste to email your representative:

    Honorable Representative [NAME HERE]

I am writing you because I only recently have become aware that the State of Florida does not have a provision in the Constitution that allows voters to initiate a recall of a state elected official. I am shocked that Floridians do not have this right, but at the same time encouraged to see that HJR 785 and HB787 have been proposed to the legislature to empower Floridians to take back what only we have the right to give. I impress upon you that supporting HJR 785 and HB 787 is imperative to ensure that politicians are accountable and acting in good faith of the public at all times. Any representative or senator that does not support this bill is not on the side of the people and does not deserve my vote. If you believe in American democracy there is no valid argument against supporting the right to recall. I implore you to do the right thing. Support HJR 785 and HB 787.

    Most Respectfully,

  25. Ken March 29, 2011 11:28 am

Will somebody please supply me with legislation that he is trying to put through, instead of the platitudes so that I can see what he is up to?

  26. Ronald March 29, 2011 12:33 pm

Ken, you need to google his name, and read the newspapers and follow other news media, and also look up Florida Government Websites for the legislature and the executive branch, and you will see the multitude of legislation that is being passed to affect education, other public servants, and the masses of poor, sick, and elderly in Florida.

  27. Johnnie April 2, 2011 12:04 pm

So much for GOP. This new Right is controlled by the Big Business interests that want PROFIT more than anything else, even you health. Top 1% of wealth control the new right and with the gov’s newly elected they are wanting to take everything they can from the masses, retirement, health care, income. Michael Moore again has seen this coming and is informing the youth and middle classes of what is to come if you don’t do something now. The Governor of MI can now dissolve commissioners if HE does not believe they are being run correctly….another bill passed by the legislative and gov. in MI….time to RECALL them all now while you can. or will they change this law before you get the chance…maybe next time you all will get up and vote and not let everyone else do it for you…

  28. Jeremy C April 4, 2011 4:03 am

I wanted to thank Brigitte that posted on 3/26. My social work colleagues and I are very happy to have coherent plans of attack for addressing, in our case, 15-40% budget cuts to those providing services to the Developmentally Disabled persons of Florida. I appreciate you taking time to clearly state a course of action and to the author for addressing an issue that is on the minds of many Floridians of all stripes.

  30. Vicky May 19, 2011 7:18 pm

Rick Scott has to go! I am ashamed of the fact that a Governor was elected to Florida who has such a checkered past which he refused to discuss. He is going to bury people who are not rich. Wake up and smell the coffee, Floridians!

  31. Dr. Draco May 30, 2011 6:06 pm

Charlie Crist, a popular governor who reached across party lines to do what the people wanted, was egged on by his elegant, socialite wife to go for that disastrous Senate run, because she bored in Tallahassee… as a result, this opportunistic vulture entered the scene and infected the state like a cancerous tumor, appealing to the state’s least fortunate people with his hucksterism, fooled them into thinking he was the jobs man who would deliver them from their misery… he made his opponent Alex Sink look like the Wicked Witch of the West in a vicious smear campaign… sadly, by the time Floridians figured out what really makes him tick, it was too late.

  32. Dr. Draco June 3, 2011 4:26 pm

The Nazis also once promised a desperate population that they would have better lives…

We’re taking America back. Today, Osama bin Laden. Tomorrow, Rick Scott!

  33. James Shropshire July 29, 2011 11:28 am

Rick Scott should have been convicted of medicare fraud when he was head of Columbia/HCA and never allowed to run from office . Instead he got a huge severance and is now pursuing his right wing , elitist agenda to run the state of floria into the ground. He needs to be recalled as unfortunately there is little likley hood he will be impeached .

  34. Craig Wolf August 9, 2011 5:10 pm

We need to get rid of Rick Scott. He uses his conservative religous beliefs to make his decisions of how he runs the state. He is a thief who stole money from HCA and now he is trying to steel money from the people of Florida. When you deny people basic rights they will do what ever it takes to take care of their family and rick scott is denying that with his incopetent ability to run our state. We need to take bake our state and get rid of that arrogant liar with a demagoge Nepolian comlex.

  35. EMart August 10, 2011 6:35 am

Rick Scott is derailing the State of Florida. He was the majority stock holder and CEO of the company that had the biggest fraud in Medicare. Either he was/is a Moron or Crook. The ANSWER is a CROOK, with no integrity, corrupted and dishonest. The worst governor in the history for FL.

  36. jmart October 16, 2011 3:07 pm

The game is over, and they have already gone home with the the stolen title.

There is no law available to get rid of the rat, and the reason Floridians voted for him is simple: They do not know enough about Florida law to NOT be dangerous, and that is that.

Now he will set about making all of the laws in place to protect himself should the populace get any crazy ideas about getting rid of him.

He’s a hateful scum that deserves absolutely nothing but death row, but he will walk away with his $300,000,000 and can buy his way out of whatever comes his way.

  37. NLPalmer November 15, 2011 9:41 am
