US Midterm Elections 2026

Proud Of My “Progressive” Views Even More After A Magnificent Victory By Democrats, Restoring American Democracy!

The morning after “the morning after” massive Democratic Party victories in both the US House Of Representatives and the US Senate, the State Governorships, and also state legislative and executive positions, this author and blogger is still absorbing the glory of what has happened.

I will be writing over the next days and weeks, in detail, about the magnificence of the political changes coming to America.

But today, I wish to reassert my pride and convictions, which I have held my entire life, influenced by my parents, relatives, and friends who have promoted, as I do, belief in tolerance, compassion, decency, morality, ethics, empathy, and conscience.

I taught for 53 years in college and university classrooms, and have given hundreds of lectures to adults and senior citizens, enunciating my views to audiences that have mostly shared my passionate defense of American Democracy and the Rule of Law.

I have had a conscience that has always affected my relationships with others, and I have never believed in discrimination against any group—whether gay, lesbian, or transgender; African Americans; Hispanic-Latino Americans; Asian Americans, whether East or South Asian; Muslim, Hindu or Buddhist Americans; along with Christians (Catholic or Protestant); Jewish Americans; and Women, who are more than half of the American population.

So just as my blog calls me a “Progressive Professor”, I am also proud to call myself a “Liberal”, and despite massive criticism by opponents, I also am proud to be “Woke”, concerned about the lives and hopes of all kinds of Americans.

I oppose vehemently, those who promote hatred, discrimination, prejudice, bias; and specifically racism, misogyny, antiSemitism, Islamophobia, and mistreatment of gay and transgender Americans.

I will continue, as long as I can, to enunciate these views, as I have done for the past 18 years, and in a few days, will have reached a total of 9,000 entries.

“Safe” Democratic Senate Seats In Midterm Election Of 2026

The Democratic Party, while working to gain a majority in the US Senate in the Midterm Elections of 2026, has eight “Safe” seats they can count on winning.

These include:

John Hickenlooper–Colorado
Chris Coons–Delaware
Ed Markey–Massachusetts
Cory Booker–New Jersey
Ben Ray Lujan–New Mexico
Jeff Merkley–Oregon
Jack Reed–Rhode Island
Mark Warner–Virginia

Another likely seat that will be retained is that of Jon Ossoff–Georgia.

Additionally, retiring Democrats in the following states are likely to have another Democrat win their seats:

Dick Durbin–Illinois by Julia Stratton
Gary Peters–Michigan by Abdul El-Sayed
Tina Smith–Minnesota by Peggy Flanagan
Jeanne Shaheen–New Hampshire by Chris Pappas

Latest Polling Shows Likely Democratic Majority In Both Houses Of Congress After Midterm Elections In November

It is well recognized that public opinion polls often are off the mark, but recognizing that, recent polls indicate a likely Democratic majority in both houses of Congress after the Midterm Elections of 2026 occur on November 3.

The belief is that the Democratic Party will end up having a majority within the range of 225-232 seats, when 218 is the majority for control.

And in the Senate, the projection is that there will be a 6 seat gain, and a majority of 53 out of 100 Senate seats, the opposite of the present situation.

And this does not include the likelihood of Dan Osborn, an Independent, winning in Nebraska, and is not counted in the 53 vote margin, so in theory, there could be 54 seats if Osborn cooperates with Democrats, which seems more likely than him cooperating with Republicans.

And with the last jobs report showing only 29,000 jobs were created in September, and the unemployment rate ticked up to 4.2 percent, it is likely that a “Blue Wave” is coming a month from tomorrow.

Republicans In Crisis Mode Regarding Midwest Farm States

With less than five weeks until the Midterm Elections of 2026, the Republican Party is in crisis mode, as Midwest Farm states, many of them rural, usually strongly Republican, see public opinion polls that show that Democrats and Independents have a strong chance of taking over some Congressional seats and some Senate seats, and keeping some contested seats that seemed a possible loss until now.

These include:

Iowa–Democrat Josh Turek
Nebraska–Independent Dan Osborn
Kansas–Democrat Adam Hamilton
Ohio–Democrat Sherrod Brown
Michigan–staying Democratic with Abdul El-Sayed
Minnesota–staying Democratic with Peggy Flanagan
Illinois–staying Democratic with Juliana Stratton

The high inflation affecting all economic activity, including most notably Grocery Prices, Gasoline, Housing Costs, Medical Costs, and so much else are having a deleterious effect on Donald Trump and the Republican Party.

Additionally, the unpopular Iran War; High Protective Tariffs; the widespread outrage of ICE Raids and Mistreatment of immigrants, including many who have no criminal record, are also undermining support for Trump and his party.

The Midwest, with its large agricultural production, and the issue of Canadian relations with the states that do a lot of trade with our northern neighbor, are also causing many farmers and small businessmen to lose their livelihood. And food shortages are also a reality in the future, as some farmers are eliminating some of their produce, because they are losing markets.

15 “Red” States In Play In Senate Races In Midterm Elections of 2026

What seems likely to be a “Blue Wave” in the upcoming Senate races in the Midterm Elections of 2026, has created a situation where states that are normally seen as “Red”, are witnessing really tough races where Democrats have a good to moderate chance of “flipping”.

This includes the two states that have special elections to complete the two years remaining in the term—Florida with Ashley Moody, who replaced Marco Rubio; and Ohio with Jon Husted, who replaced JD Vance. Their Democratic opponents have a reasonable chance to defeat them, Angie Nixon in Florida, and Sherrod Brown in Ohio.

The following states, generally “Red”, have a potential chance to elect Democrats in November.

Alaska–Republican Senator Dan Sullivan vs former Democratic Congresswoman Mary Peltola.

Idaho–Republican Senator Jim Risch vs. Independent Todd Achilles.

Iowa–Republican Congresswoman Ashley Hinson vs Democratic State Representative Josh Turek.

Kansas–Republican Senator Roger Marshall vs Democratic Pastor Adam Hamilton.

Kentucky–Republican Congressman Andy Barr vs Democratic former State Representative Charles Booker.

Maine–Republican Senator Susan Collins vs Democratic former State Legislator Troy Jackson.

Mississippi–Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith vs Democratic local District Attorney Scott Colum.

Montana–Republican US Attorney Kurt Alme vs. Democratic Former Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Alani Bankhead vs Independent former President of University of Montana Seth Bodnar.

Nebraska–Republican Senator Pete Ricketts vs Independent Former Labor Union Leader Dan Osborn.

North Carolina–former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Whatley vs Former Democratic Governor Roy Cooper.

South Carolina–Republican Senator Darline Graham vs Democratic pediatrician Annie Andrews.

South Dakota–Republican Senator Mike Rounds vs Independent Air Force and Navy veteran Brian Bengs.

Texas–Republican State Attorney General Ken Paxton vs Democratic State Representative James Talarico.

At this point, six weeks to Election Day, the best bets are:

Sherrod Brown–Ohio
Alaska–Mary Peltola
Iowa–Josh Turek
Kansas–Adam Hamilton
Maine–Troy Jackson
Nebraska–Dan Osborn
North Carolina–Roy Cooper
Texas–James Talarico

If at least four of these eight candidates win in their states, it would be a Democratic majority, assuming New Hampshire stays Democratic with Chris Pappas; Michigan stays Democratic with Abdul El-Sayed; Georgia stays Democratic with Jon Ossoff; and Minnesota stays Democratic with Peggy Flanagan.

Notable is that Independents, who would be likely to join the Democratic caucus in the Senate include:

Idaho–Todd Achilles
Montana–Seth Bodnar
Nebraska–Dan Osborn
South Dakota–Brian Bengs
