Presidents And Immigration Policies: 2001-2026

The last four Presidents—George W. Bush, Barack Obama, Donald Trump, and Joe Biden—saw more pro immigration policies, with the extreme exception of Donald Trump in both separate terms.

George W. Bush, similar to his father before him, promoted the general idea of the need for further immigration reform, but the September 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, caused him to promote extreme security measures due to the unprecedented crisis.

But Bush also supported the concept of the DREAM Act (Development, Relief, and Education For Alien Minors), which gave illegal immigrant minors the right to avoid being deported, but it suffered from great opposition from the majority of Republicans, so it only, finally, came to fruition under his successor, Barack Obama.

Under Barack Obama, the DREAM Act finally passed, and Obama also initiated by executive action the DACA program,(Deferred Action For Childhood Arrivals), which by 2017, had registered 740,000 individuals.

Obama also tried to promote DAPA (Deferred Action For Parents Of Americans And Lawful Permanent Residents) from 2014 through 2016, but it was prevented by Republican opposition, and then dropped by Donald Trump in 2017. At the same time, Obama also had record deportations of undocumented immigrants, estimated at more than three million people.

Donald Trump, in his first term, worked to build an expansion of the Border Wall with Mexico; imposed a travel ban on people from a wide variety of nations, particularly outside of Europe and the Americas; dramatically reduced refugee admissions; and promoted family separations.

Many children were left without presence of their parents, while in detention before deportation. These policies caused massive outrage and resistance.

Under Joe Biden, Trump policies on immigration were reversed; there were increased refugee admissions to the nation; and there was restored DACA (Deferred Action For Childhood Arrivals).

Upon Trump’s return to the Presidency, a totally anti-immigrant policy was pursued, including declaring a national emergency; promotion of greater border militarization with Mexico; and massive mass deportation operations, setting a goal of 3,000 immigrants per day to be arrested and sent to detention centers with horrendous conditions.

Major court cases led to lots of litigation to stop what was seen as a basic violation of civil and human rights, but with total determination by the Department of Homeland Security and the US Border Patrol to accelerate millions of immigrants being removed from the country, and with many being sent to nations they had no background in their earlier lives, and not having even the same language to be able to communicate.

Often citizens as well as undocumented immigrants, particularly those who are Latinos, or really, any person of color, have been removed, and the pace of deportation has accelerated, as the Trump Administration denies any mistreatment, and often ignores court decisions or lawsuits.

What the Trump Administration has done is the worst anti immigration policy since the internment of 125,000 Japanese Americans during World War II under Franklin D. Roosevelt; and Operation Wetback against Mexican nationals in the mid 1950s under Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Abject Cruelty Of Trump Administration On A Multitude Of Matters Shocking And Against American Values!

In a time of a multitude of outrages being perpetrated by Donald Trump and his Cabinet members and other appointees, a particularly disturbing reality is the abject cruelty that Trump promotes.

ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) has been willing to victimize legal immigrants; undocumented immigrants who have not committed any crimes; unaccompanied children; elderly people who have been in America for many decades; military veterans; recipients of the Deferred Action For Childhood Arrivals (DACA) under President Barack Obama; pregnant women; and people severely ill with various health issues. Also, some people are deported to countries they have no relationship with, and do not know the language of, and many of these nations are oppressive regimes.

There has been a total lack of compassion, empathy, humanity, and decency, and also, lack of consideration of the long term damage mentally and physically, visited, upon victims of this nativist, biased, Presidency.

While there have been other Presidents who displayed similar behavior, none have been to the extent now being perpetrated.

Stephen Miller: “The Worst Of The Worst” Around Donald Trump!

President Donald Trump has a long list of horrendous, disgraceful, despicable people around him in his second term Cabinet and elsewhere.

But if one had to choose one individual who could be considered “the worst of the worst”, using the language employed about immigrants being pursued by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), it would be Stephen Miller, the White House Deputy Chief Of Staff For Policy and Homeland Security Adviser, an extremely polarizing figure.

Miller, who is of Jewish heritage, and whose family ancestors came to America in the 20th century to escape the Czar of Russia and pogroms, is a clear cut white supremacist bigot, an avowed racist, who even in high school, railed against Latino fellow students and others of racial background other than white Caucasians.

Many see Stephen Miller as Trump’s “Brain”, and some call him “Prime Minister”, and Miller is a major speech writer of what Trump utters regarding his hateful intentions as President, to deport millions of immigrants, not just the lawless and criminal elements.

In the first term of Trump, Miller was responsible for the Muslim travel ban; the family separation policy that took kids aways from their parents without concern for their emotional health; and trying to do away totally with DACA (Deferred Action For Childhood Arrivals), a program initiated during the Barack Obama Administration. He also has supervised the writing of Trump’s Inaugural Addresses and his State of the Union speeches, so has had a tremendous, but deleterious, influence on Donald Trump over the past decade.

Miller has no concern about the rights and freedoms of women, gay and transgender Americans, Latinos, Black Americans, Asian Americans, and Muslims, as he pursues the goal of 3,000 people being readied for deportation on a daily basis, an insane and outrageous abuse of power.

The Southern Poverty Law Center placed Miller on their database of extremists in 2020.

Miller has encouraged Donald Trump to invoke the Insurrection Act, which would permit the military to police our streets, creating martial law conditions.

What has occurred tragically in Minnesota in the past two months is just a sign of what Miller would wish to accomplish nationally.

Hopefully, at some point in the future, Stephen Miller can be held accountable by the law for his transgressions and illegal, unconstitutional policies and actions!

One Month Anniversary Of The Biden Presidency: Tremendous Initiatives And Goals And Early Success!

It is today one month since Joe Biden became the 46th President of the United States, and there is a sense of great optimism.

The basic decency, compassion, empathy of Joe Biden is very evident, and he has staked out goals in foreign policy and domestic policy, canceling out most of the damage done by Donald Trump in his horrendous four years in office.

Biden has embraced NATO and our democratic allies in Asia;

has made clear that America will hold authoritarian governments around the world accountable for their outrageous violations of basic freedoms;

has selected an exceptional group of Cabinet and other advisors to deal with the myriad of issues he faces, greater than anyone since Franklin D. Roosevelt nine decades ago;

has committed himself to the fight against climate change;

has dedicated himself to the need for immigration reform, and to protect DACA recipients who have been living in uncertainty for the past five years;

has worked to promote the environment and conservation after the worst environmental record of any American President;

has been moving forward on a major economic relief bill;

has surpassed his goal of daily vaccinations against COVID 19 and made it a national commitment, not just left up to states alone;

has made the fight for civil liberties, civil rights, and the struggle against racism, nativism, misogyny a major commitment;

has endorsed full protection for the gay and lesbian community;

and above all, has restored the dignity and prestige of the American Presidency which was in rapid decline.

Joe Biden may not be able to accomplish everything he wishes, due to political realities, but his heart is in the right place, and he clearly is out to promote progressive goals and work against domestic terrorist groups which endanger American democracy.

President Biden is starting off his administration with a series of quick actions through 30 executive orders in three days in office, and more to come!

These include:

14 on the Corona Virus

4 on the Economy

2 on the Environment

5 on Immigration

2 on Equity

1 on Ethics

These include in detail:

Reinstating ties with the World Health Organization; Enforcing a mask mandate on federal properties and public transportation; Coordinating the national response to the COVID 19 Pandemic.

Halting construction of the Mexico Border Wall; Ending the Muslim Ban; Including non citizens in the Census Count; Protecting DACA immigrants from deportation; Stopping aggressive actions to find and deport undocumented immigrants.

Donald Trump In Free Fall After Disastrous Week

Donald Trump is clearly in free fall after a disastrous week.

The Supreme Court, including conservatives, and a Trump appointee, went against him on Gay and Transgender employment rights, and on the issue of Deferred Action For Childhood Arrivals (DACA), leading Trump to complain that the Supreme Court does not “like” him.

John Bolton publishing a book demonstrating that Trump has no interest in any policy, and just about reelection, infuriated Trump.

Mary Trump, his niece, is about to come out with a tell all about how horrible Trump is, even with his own father who gave him his start, once the elder Trump developed Alzheimers.

Donald Trump is bringing more attention to his own corrupt dealings in New York, by firing the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, promoting a new investigation by the House Judiciary Committee.

All public opinion polls show Trump in a massive landslide, and that includes the Fox News Polls.

And finally, the disastrous Tulsa rally led to a very small crowd, only about one third full, but also increasing the likelihood that many of the attendees might get the COVID-19 virus and spread it to others.

Donald Trump Reeling From Supreme Court DACA Decision, And Fox News Poll, Showing Joe Biden Winning By 12 Points!

Donald Trump is rapidly deteriorating mentally and physically, as he sees himself losing on so many fronts.

The latest is the Supreme Court decision on DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals), allowing those immigrants who came to America as young children, and were threatened with deportation by Trump, to remain in America, at least for the time being. Hopefully, their status will be finally resolved in 2021 by a President Joe Biden and a Democratic Congress.

Chief Justice John Roberts again proved how “unreliable” he is for conservative values, making the decision 5-4.

And now, Trump is not only declaring war on the Supreme Court, with his utterance that the Justices do not like him, but also on Fox News Channel, which just published a poll showing Joe Biden leading Donald Trump by the massive margin of 12 points nationally.

Donald Trump is suffering mightily as everything is going against him, and it could not happen to a better person!

2020 Census Should NOT Have Citizenship Question, A Plot To Harm Major States And Under Count Population, Affecting Millions Of People

Donald Trump is trying to cause a lower census count, with his move to require a citizenship question on the 2020 Census for all people to answer.

In the past, much of the time, there was no citizenship question at all, and when it existed, it was only for the small percentage of people who were asked to fill out a long form, not s short form.

The whole purpose is to scare and frighten undocumented immigrants, who will be concerned about arrest and deportation, and prevent them from filling out the forms.

That will cause an under count in California, Texas, Florida, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Georgia, North Carolina and other states, and cut available services and funding, since that is based on actual count of population, not estimates.

It is a particular strike against California, which probably has the most undocumented immigrants, and is strongly anti Trump.

17 states have started a law suit to prevent this horrible, discriminatory plan.

The Founding Fathers did not declare a census should only count citizens, but rather all people living in the boundaries of the nation.

This is an assault on common decency and dignity of all people, including the DACA (Deferred Action For Childhood Arrivals) children who are here for decades now, through no action on their own, and who still are not protected from deportation to nations they have no memory of or association with.
