Nearly six years after Prosecutor Jack Smith was given the job to investigate the January 6, 2021 US Capitol Insurrection provoked by Donald Trump, and the mishandling of classified documents at his home Mar A Lago, Republicans in a contentious Senate Judiciary Committee hearing seeking to prosecute Smith for doing his job properly, bitterly condemned Smith in a totally outrageous manner.
Republican Senator Eric Schmitt of Missouri called Smith a “Dirtbag”, and similar disgraceful languages and accusations against Jack Smith were uttered by other Republican Senators, including Josh Hawley of Missouri, Ted Cruz of Texas, and John Kennedy of Louisiana.
Particularly outrageous is the reality that Senator Hawley had fled the January 6, 2021 Insurrection in a cowardly way, but now has forgotten how he has disgraced himself on denying the reality of that event.
The Republican head of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley, at 93, is hinting at running for another six year term in 2028, when he would be 95 years old.
This is totally outrageous, as Grassley showed evidence that he should not be running again, as he has made a disgrace of himself and his majority Republican committee.
Democratic Senators Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, Adam Schiff of California, and Cory Booker of New Jersey, along with other Democratic members of the committee, came to the defense of Jack Smith.
They ridiculed the idea that Republicans who, as well as Democrats, suffered through the danger of the US Capitol Insurrection of January 6, 2021, had the gall to continue to perpetuate lies and deceit about the criminality of Donald Trump on that day, as well as after.
Jack Smith did his job professionally, and was a great public servant in the Justice Department for many years, and deserved better treatment than these bitter attacks, all based on Trump’s desire for “revenge”.
The Republican Party in Congress has continued to make themselves look totally corrupt and unethical. They should pay the price by having the Democratic Party win the majority in both houses of Congress in the upcoming Midterm Elections of 2026 on November 3, which, hopefully, will occur.
