Iowa Republican Congressman Steve King Has Gone Too Far In His Depiction Of Hispanic-Latino Immigrants!

Iowa Republican Congressman Steve King is well known as one of the wackiest, craziest, and most divisive members of the Republican caucus in the House of Representatives, sharing that distinction with Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann and Texas Congressman Louie Gohmert, and in the recent past, former Florida Congressman Allen West and former Illinois Congressman Joe Walsh!

King has depicted Hispanic and Latino immigrants as “dogs”, “livestock”, and as “drug dealers”, and he has also called for an electrified barbed wire fence between Mexico and the United States. He is against the DREAM Act, to allow the law abiding children of immigrants who came here illegally to be able to move toward eventual citizenship, including a requirement for military service or college education!

Speaker of the House John Boehner at least had the good sense to condemn King’s remarks as hateful, and Eric Cantor, the House Majority Leader, said it was inexcusable rhetoric.

But that is not enough, as to spew such hatred on the floor of Congress should lead to a censure of Steve King for incendiary behavior unbecoming a member of Congress. The Republican Party needs to repudiate such language in strong terms, and work to undermine any influence this nightmare member of their caucus has!

If not, the GOP is guaranteed to lose any opportunity to gain, even in the long run, the support of a substantial percentage of those of Hispanic or Latino origin!

    What an absolutely hateful guy!

Good morning! I was curious about Rep. King’s comment that you posted. So I went to the source and saw all the videos , completely, not just the soundbite and concluded that the usual politically correct people are exaggerating and misrepresenting what he saw , why he said it and the explanation he was giving. When I read this post I though he said, “Latinos are all dogs! They are all cattle! They are all drug dealers! ” Then I realized that was not the case. I really believe we have become too sensitive and jump on anything. But oh well I guess that is me.

But did you notice that for ONCE, John Boehner and Eric Cantor came down on King, when they have overlooked the craziness of Bachmann, Walsh and West in the last Congress, and Gohmert? Doesn’t that tell you something, Robert? This man is out of control completely, and needs to be censured for his hate mongering! But of course, that will NOT happen!

  4. Robert July 25, 2013 2:47 pm

Well, in my humble opinion Boehner and Cantor are whats wrong with politics. They are not the only ones of course. But on the Republican side they are the wimps, the too politically correct and of course as we used to say “yellow” (for the younger generations-no racial term here its just means coward). I saw the video and I see nothing wrong with what Lee said. He was just saying that America is privileged because an overwhelming majority of immigrants in the world want to come here, so we should get to allow and promote the best to come. That’s all. But I understand that for the liberal worldview making distinctions between immigrants based on qualifications is unheard of and not “fair”. Distinguishing between illiterate cheap labor and an educated scientist is discriminating. Between a hard productive person and a “bum” is hateful. Etc etc… You call it hate mongering I call it common sense. Now that said, only those with a preconceived racist mind can think that only non-Hispanic immigrants can be highly qualified to be immigrants that America as a nation should seek. The racist only think that unskilled uneducated people can only be Hispanics. Well that is racist. The problem is that unskilled uneducated Asians/Europeans/Africans cannot get here because they have to cross Oceans not the Rio Grande. That is all. So we should privileged educated, skilled people to come to the US , from everywhere. At least that is what my common sense humbly tells me. But I may be wrong , people far more “intelligent” believe that legalizing and promoting illegal immigration of low skilled uneducated people, with practically open borders, somehow is a benefit for the US, to the economy and to poor Americans ,especially African-Americans who cannot find a job.

I am now also joining those who believe that Robert is Guano in disguise.

  6. Robert July 25, 2013 3:37 pm

You guys must really hate this guy to call him “bird excrement”! And apparently you are also starting to hate me, for whatever reason.

  7. Ronald July 25, 2013 3:41 pm

Robert, I am doing nothing but allowing a platform for ideas, and commenting on it in a civilized manner. I would ask the ladies on here to cease and desist from such language!

  8. Princess Leia July 25, 2013 3:55 pm

Engineer was the one who nicknamed Juan Peron as Guano. Me, Maggie, Jane Doe, and now Rustbelt have carried on the tradition.

  9. Princess Leia July 25, 2013 3:58 pm

The reason we consider Juan Peron and Robert to be one and the same is because their posts eerily have similarities.

  10. Jane Doe July 25, 2013 4:06 pm

Also, we interpret it as bat instead of bird.

  11. Robert July 25, 2013 4:16 pm

Well please kindly refrain from comparing me to a Guano, I do not think my comments make me deserve such a name. Ronald thank you for the platform.

  12. Ronald July 25, 2013 4:21 pm

And again, ladies, and Engineer, let’s refrain from insults, ok?

  13. Jane Doe July 25, 2013 4:24 pm

I propose He Who Must Not Be Named as a more civil nickname. 🙂

  14. Engineer Of Knowledge July 25, 2013 8:33 pm

    Hello Professor,
This call for an electrified barbed wire fence between Mexico and the United States, or any fence like what the Republicans insisted be put into the “Immigration” reform that just came out of the Senate, that has a cost of Billions of dollars.

I’m sure I don’t have to remind anyone who reads this blog of the underground tunnels that cross the boarder at several places to transport drugs and illegals into America.

I’m sure just as hard as a fence is being erected, tunnels will be constructed quicker…at a fraction of the Billions the American tax payers will be shelled out.

This wanted ignorance, this non-critical thinking, no foresight of playing out the John Nash’s game theory, could have seen this scenario if they had not been so full of Teabagger rhetoric.

  15. Robert July 25, 2013 9:05 pm

“Teabagger rhetoric”?? I see we are refraining from insults. So much for commenting in a civilized manner.

  16. Engineer Of Knowledge July 25, 2013 9:21 pm

There was nothing uncivilized about the reference. I am an active member of the Republican party, and when the reactionary elements started showing up our meetings, those who identified themselves as belonging to the subset Tea Party, also referred themselves as Teabaggers.

But I find this interesting that you missed or choose to ignore the main topic of my comment. Very interesting indeed.

I would add that I never referred to you as anything. I don’t believe I have ever addressed you in any way.

  17. Rustbelt Democrat July 25, 2013 9:32 pm

    Robert

I’ve seen videos of them at their rallies wearing hats with teabags on them, hence why people call them “Teabaggers”. Also, as Engineer said, another reason they are referred to that is because they are known as the Tea Party.

  18. Robert July 25, 2013 9:39 pm

Well I was just referring to Ronald’s plea for civilized discourse. We seem to have a different view of what civilized discourse means. Whether or not you are addressing me I believe is not important. A casual reader who happens to be a conservative and sympathizes with the Tea Party people might feel annoyed and come to the conclusion,, rightly so I may add, that this is not a civilized forum. I gather that Ronald would not be happy if I started calling liberals “pinkos” and Obama followers “mindless zombies”, no matter how accurate the description. Thus I refrain, first because I find it beneath me to descend to such primitive level of communication and second out of respect for the host, Ronald.

  19. Ronald July 25, 2013 10:19 pm

I will simply ask, all of you who participate on this blog, to do everything to be civil and courteous, and avoid name calling and insults, so we can keep the level of discourse as high as it should be! Thanks for the cooperation!

  20. Jane Doe July 25, 2013 10:43 pm

Non-critical thinking. Exactly right Engineer. You hit it on the nail. That’s the problem with these extremist right-wingers.

  21. Princess Leia July 26, 2013 11:13 am

    @Jane Doe

I think it needs to be You Know Who In Disguise.

  22. Jane Doe July 26, 2013 11:14 am

    @Princess Leia

    Agreed.

  23. Rustbelt Democrat July 26, 2013 11:15 am

Good. That settles it. From now on, his official civilized nickname shall be You Know Who In Disguise.

  24. Ronald July 26, 2013 11:15 am

HAHA! You three may be right, but at this point, I choose to imagine otherwise! LOL
