Unemployment Rate

Economic Reality: 4.2 Million Jobs Lost In First Year Of Obama Presidency Totally Recovered, But Public Sector Jobs Down 600,000 Due To “Bully” Republican Governors!

Barack Obama came into office during a total hemorrhaging of the job market, due to the Great Recession that began in December 2007.

Therefore, there continued to be a loss of jobs for the first year of the Obama Administration, but that total lost, 4.2 million, has, as of this month, been totally regained, and now we are in positive territory, after 26 months of job growth, with the unemployment rate down to 8.1 percent, from 8.7 percent six months ago,and a high of 9.7 percent in early 2010.

This recovery is miraculous, and only marred somewhat by the Republican Party in Congress refusing to cooperate with the President on public sector jobs, so therefore the Republican “Bully” Governors have helped to cause the loss of 600,000 public sector jobs in the past two years, after the stimulus money of 2009 ran out, and no more was agreed to.

So while certainly, there is a lot left to do to restore a low unemployment rate, considering the circumstances and the political realities, Barack Obama has a lot to be proud of as he formally begins his reelection campaign on Saturday in Ohio and Virginia!

Rick Santorum The Promoter of Class Warfare, Not Barack Obama!

Republicans have, on a regular basis, accused President Barack Obama of promoting “class warfare”, because he promotes the concept that the wealthy have been very fortunate, with the biggest tax cuts in history during the Bush and early Obama years, and must start to pay their fair share of taxes to help support the national commitments and responsibilities.

But actually, it is Rick Santorum, above all, who is promoting class warfare, by advocating an anti elitist view about the news media, colleges and universities, and liberals, blaming them for reporting what is going on, and promoting investigation of the mess created by the Bush Administration and the Republican Party during the years they controlled the national government, and advocating open inquiry and analysis and thinking, rather than accepting what we are told is the ultimate truth from a man who advocates religion in government, rather than separation of church and state.

Santorum is trying to organize blue collar whites who are not educated beyond high school and have a much higher unemployment rate against white collar workers and college educated people who have a much lower unemployment rate.

Instead of seeing that education is the road to success and the stable middle class, and despite the fact that Santorum himself has three college and university degrees and will certainly hope his own children will get a college education to advance themselves economically over a lifetime, Santorum calls educated people snobs, and Obama is blamed for promoting a better life for the future generation!

This campaign pitch of Santorum is promotion of resentment, anger, and against the role of education in attainment of life’s goals. It is sick, insane, destructive of social mobility for the future of the nation, and Santorum needs to be repudiated in a massive way by his party, but they seem unwilling to take him on, and they are therefore promoting further degradation of the middle and working classes by NOT advocating what Obama says is necessary for success–as much education as any young person can handle, rather than a drive to the bottom!

If the blue collar whites of the Midwest back Rick Santorum, they are guaranteeing their continued decline into poverty and degradation!

Santorum’s pitch is the closest to that of Pat Buchanan in 1992 and George Wallace in 1968, but he is more of a threat to be the standard bearer of a major political party, and this could, therefore, be a calamity in the making!

Stock Market Revival Under Barack Obama: Wonderful, But Not Time To Declare Victory!

Three years into the Obama Presidency, and the great news is that the stock market has seen a tremendous revival under his watch.

Yesterday, the stock market reached a level unseen since before the economic collapse of 2008 and the Great Recession, as the Dow Jones reached its highest level in four years, and the Nasdaq reached its highest level in eleven years.

With a 5,000 point gain since the Obama inauguration, there is a temptation to think that the economic decline is over, but that would be unwise to believe. There is still too much unemployment, and too many people who are underemployed, so it is not a time to declare victory in any shape or fashion. 8.3 percent unemployment is the lowest in three years, but not good enough to rest on one’s laurels.

However, if Obama can bring about or have the fortune that at least 150,000 jobs are created every month from now on, with last month bringing 250,000 growth in jobs, then the unemployment rate will go below 8 percent, and the odds of Obama winning a second term will be greatly enhanced.

The point is that Mitt Romney and other Republicans will have less of an issue to use against Obama if that growth occurs, and already, one can see that Romney is having problems being coherent in his reaction to the job and stock market gains.

The long range issues of foreign policy and defense and national security, and the significance of the federal courts and the Supreme Court, will, hopefully, start to come to the forefront, as in the long run, these are the more important issues for the future of the nation.

GREAT News: Unemployment Drops to 8.3 Percent, With Larger Employment Growth Than Expected!

The nation’s unemployment rate dropped dramatically in January, by two tenths of one percent, from 8.5 percent to 8.3 percent, a great sign of economic recovery.

About a quarter of a million jobs were created in the private sector, more than was expected.

This is great news for the Obama Administration, and for those who found work, and it gives hope of a more rapid economic recovery than previously forecast by economists.

It also makes the economy, at least for the moment, much less of a political plus for Mitt Romney or any other Republican Presidential nominee, which is a good thing, as the main focus in the election should not be the economy, but rather foreign policy leadership, and the effects on the future of a President selecting federal judges and the Supreme Court Justices, which has a longer range effect on all Americans than the economic problems we have faced in the past few years.

Republican Talking Points On Taxes, Regulation, Growth Of Government, Unemployment Rate, And Fighting Terrorism All Total Lies!

The Republican Party has been attacking the Obama Administration for three years, using “talking points” about taxes, regulation, growth of government, the high unemployment rate, and fighting terrorism.

According to Republican propaganda, Obama has raised taxes, when in actual fact, he has lowered payroll taxes and small business taxes multiple times.

According to Republican propaganda, Obama has increased regulations of all kinds, while in fact he has worked to get rid of unnecessary, unproductive regulation, while increasing it where needed.

According to Republican propaganda, Obama has increased the growth of government, when in actual fact, he has called for and now is initiating streamlining and unification of government agencies on trade and commerce, to save money and cut bureaucracy and unnecessary “red tape”.

According to Republican propaganda, the Obama Administration has failed to lower unemployment and create jobs, while the facts are that 3.2 million jobs have been created, restoring two thirds of the numbers unemployed due to the economic collapse in the last months of the Bush Administration and the first months of the Obama Administration. At the rate of job creation now, the entire loss of 4.7 million jobs since January 2009, mostly in the first six months of the administration as a carryover from the Bush Adminstration, will be recovered by the end of the term of office. And the high point of 9.8 percent unemployment is now down to 8.5 percent, and may go below the magic number of 8 percent that Obama pledged was his goal in the first term, with further improvement later on.

According to Republican propaganda, the Obama Administration has failed in the fight against terrorism, while in reality, our government has used the drone weapon very effectively against terrorists, both Al Qaeda and the Taliban, and has been successful in killing Osama Bin Laden, Anwar Al Awlaki, and helped NATO eliminate Libyan dictator Moammar Gaddafi.

EVERYTHING utilized as Republican propaganda for the past three years is based on lies, deceit, mythology, and manipulation of public opinion! Never has an administration been so wronged with all of its accomplishments, of which the above are only a selected few!

But the American people will get the message during the upcoming campaign about what REALLY happened, and who is responsible for the lack of FURTHER improvement, the Republican Party, which only cares about the one percent, and utilizes social issues to draw support from others NOT rich!

The sham is soon to be over, and Mitt Romney will not know what hit him when the campaign is in full swing! And if by some miracle, Rick Newt Gingrich or Ron Paul or Rick Santorum magically becomes the nominee, the attack will be only the stronger!

Unemployment Rate Down And Job Growth Up For Barack Obama: Important Turning Point!

The unemployment rate in December fell to 8.5 percent, the lowest it has been in nearly three years, and over 200,000 private sector jobs were created, making for a total of 3.2 million private sector jobs created in the past 22 months!

After a very difficult 2009 and a stagnating few months in 2011, creating doubts about economic recovery, it seems as the economic revival which has been wished for since the economic collapse of 2008-2009 has finally turned the corner.

Barack Obama had said that unemployment, which reached a high of 9.6 percent in 2009, would fall below 8 percent. It now seems possible that the rate will continue to plummet, and may reach the 8 percent level by the fall, just in time for the election.

History tells us that a President is reelected IF the unemployment rate is declining at the time of the election.

Considering that Barack Obama has done so much good for the country, despite GOP obstructionism, it is hoped that the unemployment rate will continue to fall, and by history, therefore, guaranteeing his reelection against weak, uninspiring GOP opposition.

American Unemployment At Two And A Half Year Low: The Tide Is Finally Turning, But Could Be Reversed By Republican Obstructionism In Congress!

Finally, real progress is being made on unemployment, with the rate last month dropping to 8.6 percent, the lowest since March 2009, when everything was collapsing economically, due to the Bush administration disaster financially, just as Barack Obama took over the Presidency!

There is a long way to go, and no one is saying a miracle will occur in the next eleven months, but what can be detrimental would be for Congress to refuse to keep the payroll tax cut, which put $1000 into the pockets of the average taxpayer, and a continuation of the unemployment compensation benefit to the long term unemployed, who are rapidly become homeless, as well as jobless, in the worst economy in 75 years!

But those two actions required before the end of the year seem to be moving toward failure, due to obstructionism by the Republicans in Congress, who seem ready to see taxes go UP for the middle and working classes, while refusing to raise one cent in the taxes on the top two percent! And the long term unemployed are being depicted as lazy and shiftless, a total disgrace to depict them as such!

So the Republicans could be working toward trying to undermine the economic recovery, because after all, Republican Senate leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky made it clear that the major goal of the GOP was the defeat of a second term for President Barack Obama.

The American people, and particularly those in economic distress, are being abandoned, being thrown into the sea without a life preserver, with any conscience by the Republican Party, which only concerns itself with the wealthy and the corporations and unbridled capitalism!

The bright spot in all this is the belief that the Republican stand will harm them in the Congressional Elections Of 2012! But meanwhile, there will be millions of victims, as a result!

The Congress And Job Creation Failure: How The Republicans Will Suffer More Than President Obama!

Right now, there is panic in the Democratic Party over the job statistics, with 9.1 percent unemployment, with many thinking President Obama cannot be reelected in 2012.

The fact is, that despite this hysteria, it is in the hands of the Republicans in Congress as to whether Obama will be reelected, due to the fact that they control the majority in the House of Representatives, and with their 47 Senators, are able to filibuster any action desired by the Democrats in the Senate!

If no jobs program is enacted to help bring about the creation of employment, it will reflect on them more than President Obama, who will be able to use the same “do nothing Congress” argument on them that Harry Truman utilized in 1948, leading to his upset victory and the return of the Democrats to control in both houses of Congress.

The Democrats tend to panic whenever times are tough, so President Truman had much liberal opposition in 1947-1948, but he came through, with foreign policy helping him to look like the strong, stable leader that he was!

President Jimmy Carter had much liberal opposition in 1979-1980, including challenges within the party from Ted Kennedy and Jerry Brown, weakening him, and foreign policy crises of Afghanistan and Iran undermined his ability to recover from economic difficulties that arose at the same time.

President Bill Clinton had liberal opposition in 1995-1996, but won a battle over the budget with the Republican majority in Congress, faced no opponent in the primaries, and while unable to throw the GOP out of control of the Congress, won reelection handily and weakened the Republican majority.

With Obama having no opposition within the party for the nomination, demonstrating a strong successful policy against terrorism, and having an extreme right wing GOP in the House of Representatives determined to do nothing to create jobs, the need for panic and hysteria is overdrawn!

As long as Obama fights the good fight for his program, even if nothing is done over the next 14 months, the Republicans will hand the election to him, particularly if Rick Perry is their nominee!

The ability of the Republicans to self destruct is immeasurable, and with a public opinion rating of 12 percent for Congress (under the control effectively of the GOP), and with Obama’s personal popularity being a plus and his overall rating being 43 percent, the future is not as gloomy as many might think!

Barack Obama After 30 Months In Office: A Man Of Courage Facing Innumerable Challenges!

Today, July 20, marks 30 months, or two and a half years in office for President Barack Obama.

Obama has gone from one challenge to another nonstop in the past 30 months, having faced more issues and problems than any President since Franklin D. Roosevelt!

Obama has not done everything right or best, but he has shown courage and principle in facing multiple crises, often in the same time frame! He has proved the Presidency is not a job for a lightweight intellectually, and no one in their right mind can imagine John McCain doing anywhere near as well as Obama has performed!

Obama has had more grief from the opposition party than any President should have to face, but he has clearly made the American people understand he is on their side, not the side of the rich and the corporations! He has made many enemies, but his popularity has remained high. There is much frustration over the economy, but it is clear that the country at large does not see the Republican opposition as a better choice!

Obama may have alienated some who voted for him, but he has shown that he will make the tough choices no matter what effect it might have on his fortunes, and anyone at this point who really believes a Republican Party, with such a pathetic group of potential nominees to challenge Obama next year, is somehow going to beat Obama, needs to have his or her head examined!

Campaign contributions make it clear that Obama will win re-election, even if the unemployment rate is the highest since 1936, because just as much now as then, the American people at large are realizing that the Democrats offer the only hope in the long term, as the Republicans have painted themselves in a corner, catering to the FAR RIGHT social and Tea Party conservatives, and the country will not be crazy enough to put them into total control, no matter how much the corporations might spend, due to the Citizens United case of the Supreme Court in 2010!

Barack Obama will win re-election handily, and make the Republicans and the conservatives grin and bear it, as he is the champion of the majority of Americans who go to work every day and just want a fair shake from their government!

Rick Perry: Is There An Economic Renaissance In Texas?

Texas Governor Rick Perry is flirting with announcing his candidacy for the Republican Presidential nomination, after having earlier dismissed the idea.

Conservatives applaud him for his promoting an economic “renaissance” in Texas, where 37 percent of all jobs have been created in the past two years.

Sounds good, doesn’t it? But the truth is otherwise, beyond that number.

Yes, there are more jobs created, but remember Texas has the second largest population in the nation, so one would expect that.

But the unemployment rate is lower in nearly half of the states of the Union, and a majority of the jobs created are minimum wage jobs, hardly a great beginning for a middle class life!

So life is not so great in Texas, unless one is wealthy, but then again, isn’t that always the Republican reality, that they are only good for the rich?
