Imagine This Scenario: The McCain-Palin Administration After 20 Months! :(

Let’s just imagine that Senator John McCain had become the President and Governor Sarah Palin had become the Vice President in January 2009!

How would a McCain Presidency have been different than an Obama Presidency?

1. There would have been no bailout of the banking industry, and the financial collapse ensuing would have likely created unemployment and foreclosures twice the rate that they have been!
2. The domestic auto industry would have disappeared completely, and with it, hundreds of thousands of jobs in allied industries, as well as the auto workers!
3. There would have been no economic stimulus, and America would be in Great Depression Number Two, rather than a severe recession!
4. Health care reform would have not occurred, and health care rates would be much worse than they are, and millions more Americans would be denied health care, because of loss of jobs and homes!
5. The Great Depression Number Two would have created more instability in the world economy than this recession has caused!
6. Hundreds of thousands of teachers, police officers, fire fighters, librarians, and other local and state workers would have been dismissed, creating a breakdown of state and local governments on a scale unimaginable!
7. When the BP Oil Spill occurred, the McCain Administration would not have pushed BP to do anything to provide aid to the victims or pay for the cleanup!
8. There would have been no financial reform legislation, no credit card legislation, no student loan legislation, no action on the environment, no movement on gay rights in any form, a sharper crackdown on illegal immigration, and a continuation of tax cuts to the wealthy despite its tremendous burden on the national debt!
9. McCain would have chosen two strong conservatives to the Supreme Court!
10. A lot of Bush II appointees would have ended up working for McCain, and it is likely that former Senator Phil Gramm of Texas, one of the major architects of the home mortgage crisis, would have been Secretary of the Treasury!
11. It is likely that neoconservatives who brought us into Iraq would be in power, and the war in Iraq would be further escalated, at a cost of American lives and treasure!
12. The war in Afghanistan would be further escalated beyond what President Obama has promoted!
13. It is likely that McCain would have been building up toward a war against Iran, and possibly North Korea, at the same time, again part of the neoconservative influence!
14. America’s relationship with the world would be much more antagonistic, similar to Bush II, and tension with the Muslim world would be far worse! We would be less safe from the threat of terrorism!
15. Finally, Sarah Palin would be a heartbeat away from the Presidency, and no one could sleep at night without worrying about John McCain’s health! 🙁

It is certain, upon further reflection, that one could come up with other ideas as to how McCain would have influenced the history of the past 20 months, but the list above is more than enough to say to any reasonable person: Thank God Barack Obama is President of the United States!

Gallup Poll On Republican Presidential Nomination For 2012: Romney In Front!

Here we are, a month before the midterm elections, and a Gallup Poll indicates that former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney is the front runner for the GOP Presidential nomination in 2012, with 19 percent, with former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin at 16 percent, and former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee at 12 percent!

Further behind is former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich of Georgia with 9 percent, and Texas Congressman Ron Paul with 7 percent!

Further behind with single digits are Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour, former Pennsylvania Governor Rick Santorum, South Dakota Senator John Thune, Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels, and Indiana Congressman Mike Pence!

It must be pointed out that being ahead in the nomination battle just before the midterm election has been the “kiss of death” in the past in both parties, so the fact that Mitt Romney is ahead cannot be seen as a clue to his likely nomination two years from now!

Romney would seem to many observers to be the best choice because of his business background and administrative experience as Massachusetts Governor, and as the head of the Salt Lake City Olympic Committee back in 2002, but it does not mean that the GOP will do the rational thing and select him!

The question is: will his Mormon faith, his earlier “liberal” image as Massachusetts Governor, his promotion of a state health care plan often compared to “Obamacare”, and the fact that he does not seem to fit well with the Tea Party Movement now influencing the Republican Party, doom his chances to be the challenger to President Obama in 2012?

If one had to bet the future, it would seem as if Mitt Romney will have trouble winning the nomination, as it is seen as unlikely that early voting states, such as the caucuses in Iowa, and the primary in South Carolina, will support him over more socially conservative candidates, as many of the other potential nominees are perceived!

Advice To Sarah Palin: Why You Should NOT Run For President!

Sarah Palin is extremely popular among a certain percentage of the American people, and many people think she should run for President in 2012. Behind the scenes, many Republicans, both those planning to run and others in positions of leadership or influence, hope she will not run, as they fear that she could weaken the party and cause a massive defeat in 2012, negating any gains that might be made in the midterm elections in November!

Sarah Palin will have to decide in the next six to nine months, at the most, whether she will plunge into the race! It is extremely doubtful that she will read, watch or listen to anyone who she sees as a naysayer, but in any case, the author will explain below why Sarah should NOT run!

1. You have a family that really needs you to spend more time at home! You have a disabled son who needs his mother more than he has you around! You have two daughters who need to have their mother in their life more, so that they will not become pregnant while in high school, and before they are married! Your husband could use you to be more involved in family matters, than in self promotion for one’s own ego!

2. You need to be honest, Sarah! You are a person who is very attractive in person, and seems very energetic and enthusiastic when you speak in public! But you have shown no evidence of having any great knowledge about economics, science, or international relations! You don’t seem to read very much, or have much interest in learning from others, including those who may disagree with you! You allow your religious beliefs to overwhelm common sense and to shape your public statements! You are intellectually inferior to the challenges of making tough decisions, as you have never had to do anything significant as Governor of Alaska, a state with the population the size of a congressional district! You might have great advisors as President, although you might also be subject to manipulation by others and make bad choices, as for instance Richard Nixon did when he was President! Would you really want to have to be awakened in the middle of the night to make a tough, immediate decision, when you have no experience in any political position that you have not quit because of boredom or lack of interest?

3. Running for President is HARD work, something you are adverse to, Sarah! Pat Buchanan, who ran for President a few times, makes clear that it is hard, retail work, not all glory and fame! You would have to be involved in debates with your Republican challengers and with the President of the United States! You would have to face interviews with media of all kinds, and if you refused to do so, you would be bitterly attacked, and not only by Democrats, but also Republicans! You would have to take definite stands on issues, and would make a lot of enemies, and your crowds would include many who do NOT adulate you, and you are not good at accepting criticism! You are a lazy person, who will not like being on camera and audio for 18 hours a day, will not like being second guessed all of the time, and will discover for the first time in your life what real WORK is! Sarah, do you really want to put yourself through all this? Think hard about it, Sarah, before you take the step that will change your life, and wear you down, and even have the effect of aging you earlier than necessary!

4. You will have to give up your lucrative income, as you cannot charge for speeches at universities and political gatherings anymore, if you run for President! You will not be able to have a reality series on cable anymore, and will not have time to write more books with shadow assistance, to gain royalties! It is so much more fun to endorse others, and speak for others, and keep your Fox News Channel salary, and have Sean Hannity, Bill O”Reilly, and Glenn Beck fawn and gush over you! Do you really want to give all of this up, which has given you at least $12 million income, if not more, in the past two years?

5. Finally, John McCain honored you and made you what you are, a multimillionaire, which you never would have been without him! You owe him a debt of gratitude that cannot be fully repaid, and he has been very good to you, and supportive of you ever since he chose you to run with him for Vice President! But isn’t it your responsibility to be thankful, and also realistic, about your talents, abilities, and character? Should you not look in the mirror and realize that you have been put into a position in public affairs way beyond your own reality, and that you need to be appreciative, but not burden your party and the nation with unsightly ambitions, which would, if by some freak chance, led to the White House, would be a danger to the American future? Not everyone, in fact most people, who may fantasize about being President should be President, as this is a position that requires the BEST among us, not just any average American! And yes, there certainly are women who could be qualified to be President, but face the facts, YOU ARE NOT ONE OF THEM, SARAH! Stop living in a fantasy of your own making, Sarah, and do what is right for you, your family, and the country: ANNOUNCE SOON YOU ARE NOT RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT, so that we can focus and concentrate on those who ARE qualified to compete in running for the White House! It would be the patriotic thing to do, to recognize your own limitations, and be thankful for the role you already have in political life!

Assuredly, this advice from the author will NOT be paid attention to, or even noticed by Sarah Palin, but this is a heartfelt appeal for reason, rather than emotion, to control her decision making process!

The Biggest Loser Due To The Tea Party Takeover Of The GOP: Mitt Romney!

As one analyzes the growing influence of the Tea Party Movement on the Republican Party, it is obvious who the biggest loser is with the emergence of this radical, anti government, anti incumbent fringe movement: Mitt Romney!

Romney is no Tea Party type, but instead is a solid, experienced businessman and competent governor, who dealt with the issue of health care in Massachusetts!

He is also often seen as a liberal from New England, although he has worked very hard to create the image that he is a solid conservative!

He is a Mormon who will have great troubles overcoming social conservatives who keep on espousing Christian values, and consider him as radical because he is a Mormon!

On paper, even though he has shortcomings, he seems to be the most qualified, competent candidate the GOP could offer as a challenger to President Obama! Romney has great business experience, and made the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics a success!

If the GOP used its intelligence, rather than its emotions, it would nominate Romney as the best of the group of potential candidates!

But it is clear that Mitt Romney has lost any edge he might have had, once the Tea Party Movement emerged as a significant influence, pushing the Republican Party far to the right!

So the GOP will lose any chance it had to win the 2012 Presidential election, and the worst scenario of all is if Sarah Palin somehow emerged as the nominee two years from now! 🙁

Republican Presidential Candidates Must Be Asked: Is Sarah Palin Qualified To Be President Of The United States? :(

The Presidential campaign of 2012 is about to begin, as soon as the midterm congressional elections take place on November 2.

This country faces many tough challenges, and we need candidates for the Presidency who are fully qualified to deal with the multitude of issues that are faced by the occupant in the White House!

Certainly, we cannot expect perfection from our presidential candidates, but we have a right to expect basic competency and knowledge of economics, science, and international relations at the least!

Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has not shown competency in any of these areas, and refuses to face the challenge of interviews with media that she deems as unfriendly! We cannot afford to have a President who is so lacking in skills, knowledge, and insights about national and international affairs as Sarah Palin represents!

The question that must be asked of EVERY Republican Presidential candidate–Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, Newt Gingrich, Mitch Daniels, Haley Barbour, Tim Pawlenty, Rick Santorum, John Thune, Bobby Jindal and any others–do you believe Sarah Palin is qualified to be President of the United States?

If they refuse to answer, they should be rejected, and if they say that she is qualified, they should be rejected! If they say she is not qualified, call any of them who do so a profile in courage, as it would be the absolute truth!

We deserve the best, not just a photogenic quitter who has never given any evidence of any deep thoughts or ideas! We should hope that someday we will have a woman President, but not just any woman! Mediocrity cannot be allowed to govern the greatest nation in the world!

Christine O’Donnell: Questions About Her Competency, Integrity, And Motivations! :(

Delaware GOP Senate nominee Christine O’Donnell is a new Tea Party favorite, but one who makes you wonder about the competence, integrity and motivations of this right wing Republican associated movement! 🙁

Questions have been raised about her competence, including the fact that she has lied about being a college graduate, which she only became this year after finishing one more course and paying much belated fees and bills due to Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey from the 1980s!

Also, O’Donnell has not held a paying job for years, and seems to have used campaign funds to pay her personal expenses, including rent and credit card bills! And she has alienated campaign staff who have not been paid for their services in past campaigns for the Senate! 🙁

O’Donnell also has in the past promoted a very narrow minded view of sexuality, including arguing against any sexual activity outside of marriage, including masturbation, and yet lives with a boyfriend, and seems unlikely now to be practicing celibacy, which she pushed as a religious issue in the 1990s!

She claims to be an expert on the Constitution, but has never written or expressed orally any specific knowledge of government issues, and just seems to be a professional office seeker, with three attempts for a Senate seat, but with no actual credentials! 🙁

This woman is extremely attractive, but comes across as not very bright or knowledgeable, in many ways a clone of Sarah Palin!

The Delaware Republican Party repudiated her before she defeated Congressman and former Governor Mike Castle in the primary by a small margin of votes, and Castle will not endorse her as he states that she has lied consistently, which indeed seems to be totally true, including claiming that she had won two counties in Delaware against Joe Biden in 2008, when she won none of the three counties in the small state! 🙁

Karl Rove, former adviser to George W. Bush, may be switching gears under pressure to back O’Donnell, after criticism of his strong stand against her competency, integrity and motivations, but the fact he has switched views does not take away from his earlier views, which seemed indeed legitimate!

Karl Rove may be objectionable in many ways, but he truly knows politics and candidates backwards and forwards, and his initially strong doubts about O’Donnell have to be seen for what they were! CHRISTINE O’DONNELL IS NOT QUALIFIED TO REPRESENT DELAWARE IN THE US SENATE! 🙁

Sarah Palin’s Advice To Christine O’Donnell: NOT Acceptable For A Presidential Campaign! :(

Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, who backed Christine O’Donnell’s campaign for the GOP Senate nomination in Delaware, yesterday advised O’Donnell on how to campaign for the Senate against Chris Coons!

On Fox News Channel, Palin stated that O’Donnell should only be willing to be interviewed by Fox, and refuse to answer questions or be interviewed by the mainstream media! Palin made it clear that she had come to that conclusion based on how she perceives herself treated by the mainstream media during the Presidential campaign of 2008!

This is a very interesting development in many ways!

First, Palin blames the mainstream media for making her a victim, when it is her own fault, being poorly prepared to run for Vice President, being evidently poorly informed and lacking in knowledge on very basic information and issues! Is it the fault of the media that she could not name a Supreme Court case or some of the sources of media that she claims to read? Is her inability to articulate anything clearly the fault of others, or her own fault? The answer is obvious! 🙁

Secondly, telling O’Donnell to refuse to answer questions and only agree to be interviewed by “friendly” media is an example, becoming more common among Republicans, conservatives and Tea Party Movement people! It is a level of arrogance that should NOT be rewarded! If someone wishes to be competing to be elected by the people, they have a a responsibility to answer challenging questions, show their level of knowledge and expertise, and agree to public debates! Just because they are made to feel uncomfortable or insecure does not give them the right to refuse to communicate with news media and the American public! 🙁

And thirdly if Sarah Palin, as rumored, intends to run for President, is she going to be able to refuse to debate her rivals, and later President Obama? Is she going to be able to refuse to answer questions from CNN, MSNBC, NBC, ABC, CBS, The Washington Post, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Tribune, and numerous other media sources that she may not particularly admire? 🙁

The answer is NO, as if she wants to be our President, she CANNOT boycott questions and challenges! She NEEDS TO PROVE her competence, talents, and abilities to be our Commander in Chief!

So if she does not wish to do so, then stay at Fox News Channel, and be praised and glorified by Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly, and Glenn Beck! Do more television series, deliver more speeches before admiring audiences, and publish more books, and make loads of money! But don’t expect us to elect you President without a full vetting of you, by friends AND by enemies! 🙁

Is Delaware A Sign of “Civil War” In The Republican Party?

The battle within the Republican Party in Delaware for the Senate nomination in tomorrow’s primary may very well be a sign of the future of the GOP nationally!

Moderate Congressman Mike Castle, an 18 year veteran of the House of Representatives and former Governor, is being opposed by Christine O’Donnell, who has twice lost Senate races against Vice President Joe Biden, and in the mind of GOP leaders in the state, has absolutely no qualifications for the Senate, other than her very good looks!

The Tea Party Movement, Sarah Palin, and South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint, angling to be Senate leader for his party in a challenge to Senator Mitch McConnell, all are backing O’Donnell!

The result is that there could be said to be “civil war” between moderate centrists and the right wing of the party, which is becoming more aggressive everywhere, representing a long range threat to the stability of the GOP across the nation!

This is a sad commentary on the GOP, facing a crisis of identity as the Tea Party Movement works to overtake and reshape the party of Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Eisenhower, and YES, even Ronald Reagan! 🙁

The Republican And Conservative Exploitation Of September 11 :(

On the eve of the 9th anniversary of the most horrific day in American history since Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, it is shocking to recognize how the Republican leadership and conservative talk show hosts have utilized September 11 to divide this country by promoting hate, hysteria, and panic on a level WORSE than Joseph McCarthy and his Republican and conservative backers stirred anti Communist “witch hunts” during the late 1940s and early 1950s!

There is nothing that these despicable public figures will not do to promote their agenda, including comparing Pastor Terry Jones’s threat to burn Korans with the Islamic interfaith center that is planned for two blocks from Ground Zero in New York City! The former is designed to promote hate and bloodshed, while the latter’s purpose is to promote interfaith understanding and dialogue!

It is not too much for Newt Gingrich, John Boehner, and Sarah Palin, among others, to exploit this comparison, but also Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck find no problem in exploiting September 11 for financial gain, by holding a gathering in Anchorage, Alaska with highly expensive tickets to be bought on Ticketmaster, and selling liquor as well, to commemorate that fateful day! Any such event should not have a ticket charge, and liquor being served is totally against the somber nature of the event!

But Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck have no shame and no limits to their hypocrisy, as also John Boehner, Newt Gingrich, and many others, including the many Republican leaders who chose to remain silent and avoid taking a stand for principle, on the evil of Pastor Terry Jones and the principle of religious freedom and diversity represented by the interfaith plans near Ground Zero!

The Tea Party, Sarah Palin, And The Delaware GOP Senatorial Primary: Suicidal Tendencies Grow! :(

Sarah Palin and the Tea Party Movement seem out to prevent any moderate Republicans from being elected to the US Senate, thus giving the Republicans a more extremist image, which is likely to lead to defeat, but even if it does not, marginalizes the long term future of the party! 🙁

Alaska’s Senate primary saw moderate Lisa Murkowski defeated by Joe Miller, an extremist Tea Party favorite, which at least makes that state a more competitive one for Democrats! Sarah Palin used her influence to help defeat the Murkowski family again, as she had when she defeated the father who was Governor in 2006!

Now Delaware, a state sure to elect a moderate Republican with a 20 year record in the US House, Mike Castle, suddenly has the possibility, due to Sarah Palin and the Tea Party extremists, of electing a completely unqualified woman, Christine O’Donnell, who happens to be attractive as her only virtue, as the Senate nominee next Tuesday, September 14!

The odds of O’Donnell defeating Democrat Chris Coons are seen as unlikely, but the desire to move the GOP to the far right seems to outweigh the reality that the GOP cannot survive intact as an extremist right wing party long term! 🙁

We already have right wingers named Sharron Angle, Rand Paul, Joe Miller, Ken Buck and Mike Lee, who make a bad image for the party, and hopefully most will be defeated, an advantage to the Democrats!

But if they win, and Christine O’Donnell wins, the Republican party is killing its long term future, as to govern the country we require a mainstream centrist set of parties, and the GOP is fast losing any possibility of being perceived as such!
