There has been discussion going on for two years now, since Donald Trump became the nominee of the Republican Party in the summer of 2016, and intensified when he won a surprising Electoral College victory, that we were as a nation entering a constitutional crisis. Tensions have since accelerated by his rash and reckless behavior and utterances in his 19 plus months in office.
But this year, first in Michael Wolff’s book; then in Omarosa Manigault Newman’s memoir; and this week in Bob Woodward’s new book and yesterday’s New York Times op-ed by a high ranking official of the Trump Administration, all warning of the dangers of Donald Trump, and his totally unhinged behavior being more than ever a national crisis, we have now reached a stage where it is clear that we are in a more terrifying moment than even Richard Nixon and Watergate!
It is time for the Republican Party to put aside politics, and join the Democrats in demanding that Donald Trump resign, or that the 25th Amendment Section 4 be invoked.
Trump is more crazy than ever in his rhetoric, unstable actions, his amorality, and in his volcanic fury, with half hour rants, that could cause a heart attack or a stroke in most people, if occurring regularly.
The nation’s national security and stability is at stake, and this is not a time to promote division and conflict, so Paul Ryan, Orrin Hatch, Mitch McConnell and other GOP leaders need to end partisanship, and unite with the Democrats to promote the nation’s welfare over partisan wrangling.
We are in danger of a insane man utilizing the nuclear codes, and of an economic depression, and even though many might not be happy with Mike Pence, at the least, he is not mentally unhinged, or incompetent, and is not a reckless person who would undermine the nation. And with a likely Democratic House, even if not the Senate being likely in 2019. Mike Pence would be controlled to a great extent, and he would not win the Presidency for a full term in 2020.
Excellent speech by Obama! 🙂
Video of Obama’s speech. It’s worth it to watch the whole thing rather than just the snippets you’ll hear from journalists and pundits.
Here is one more reason why I don’t why Nancy Pelosi to ever return to being speaker of the U.S. House…

Nancy Pelosi Promises That Democrats Will Handcuff the Democratic Agenda If They Retake the House
By David Dayen (09.04.2018)
In the first outline of the legislative agenda House Democrats would pursue if they take the majority in November, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has made the public a big promise, vowing to handcuff her party’s progressive ambitions, including in the event that a Democratic president succeeds Donald Trump, by resurrecting the “pay-go†rule that mandates all new spending is offset with budget cuts or tax increases.
Along the way, she is playing into the hands of Republican strategists eager to warn voters that Democrats’ top priority is raising taxes.
Forcing budget offsets for every piece of legislation would make it more difficult for Democrats to pass a host of liberal agenda items, from “Medicare for All†to tuition-free public college. It continues a trend of Democrats caring far more about deficits than Republicans, constraining the activist impulses of liberal policymakers while giving conservatives free rein to blow giant holes in the tax code.
D, I totally agree that it is time for Nancy Pelosi, Steny Hoyer, and Jim Clyburn to hand off power to the younger generation, whether the Democrats are the majority or the minority in the 116th Congress in 2019!
I’m inclined to say no one should replace her. She’s been one of the most effective speakers in history. Sure, Republicans love to hate her and they put her face up in scary ads to make their voters turn out. Because of that reason many Democrats think she should step down. “Too much baggage,†they say. “Republicans will use her against us!†they warn. But I think this overlooks one thing: They’re going to do it no matter who occupies that chair. The idea that we’re going to replace her with someone else and thus foil their plans to scare people into voting Republican is ridiculous. It’ll be full steam ahead no matter who Democrats choose.
Now is not the time for a circular firing squad. Every faction of the Democratic Party must stay united to defeat every single Republican on Nov. 6, 2018!
Exactly, Pragmatic! If we don’t win back Congress, America is doomed!
I would say that now is not the time before the election, BUT after, we should have new leadership, whether majority or minority!
Mr. Longman is amongst the writers at the Washington Monthly blog who shares our opinion.
As he points out in his article, the problems with Pelosi are much more about who she is, where’s she from, and what she symbolizes than with her ability and fitness.
If indeed with her leadership, the Democrats win a massive victory, then I agree to leave Nancy Pelosi in leadership.
But if only a narrow margin of majority, or loss of the House again, then Pelosi needs to resign, and take with her the two others, also nearing 80 years of age!
Trump claims he fell asleep during Obama’s excellent speech. Twitter users were quick to suggest alternative reasons for why it really sent Trump into a slumber.
I second the Twitter users. Trump couldn’t comprehend it.
We have Hurricane Florence coming our way at the end of next week.
Stay safe, Princess Leia, and your relatives!
From what I’ve heard, the storm is expected to stall after making landfall and bring lots of heavy rain and inland flooding from the Carolinas north to Pennsylvania. Definitely looks like it’s going to be a historic storm.
