The decision of the jury in the George Zimmerman Trial in Sanford, Florida, finding him not guilty in the killing of 17 year old Trayvon Martin, is a tragedy of major proportions, and my condolences to the family of Martin, who will not see racial justice in his death!
There is no question that racial profiling was part of the mindset of George Zimmerman, and that IF Trayvon Martin had been white, this tragedy would not have happened!
So as this author said just yesterday, any young black male from age 14 to 35 is an endangered species, and any one who has a racist intent can feel free to shoot and kill such a person and claim self defense!
So it means that every black parent has to live in constant fear of the demise of their sons because we have a crazy system which allows the use of firearms by people who should not have such firearms, and with the recognition that fifty years after the March on Washington, racial justice still has a long road to travel!
Just because we have a black President does not mean that the fight for racial justice, racial equality, and equal treatment under the law has been won, far from it! It is clear that battle will continue long into the future, but this is not the time to despair, but instead to regroup and organize for the struggle ahead for all decent people in this nation!

Well stated Professor. My heart sank for the family when I heard the verdict last night. This is all I want to say right now as I am having a hard time coming to terms with the fingings of the jury expecially when it came out Zimmering lied about not knowing about shooting someone when you felt threatened was legal in Florida. To me that was very Freudianly revealing of trying to hide his own recognition of his guilt.
The more I think about this, the more angry I become. To me Zimmerman had a “Wyatt Earp†delusionan on his self appointed neighborhood watch. I am really disappointed with this jury. Second degree was definently on the table. This is Florida Justice?
Engineer, back in late March, I wrote about the history of Florida justice. This is the Old South, sorry to say, although living in South Florida, one might think sometimes, we are in the Northeast. But even in Fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel public opinion polls, I am often shocked at how right wing propaganda so often infects even south Floridians. The state’s reputation, already bad, has suffered a fatal blow! But remember, this is the state of Governor Rick Scott, arguably the worst Governor in America!
A very good point Professor. The host on the internet blog radio show that I am invited to speak on from time to time said that she grew up the most part of her life in this area of Florida where the trial was held.
She stated the last time I co-hosted, “This may be Florida, but it still is the “Land of the Klan.â€
Racial Justice? Racial justice = Mob Justice. It’s not justice! I’m really starting to feel terrified about the kind of teachers we have in our schools, colleges and universities. This time I am truly almost speechless and in shock because of this post. Speechless.
The left is so despicable that it politicizes a tragedy. Only the the left and the lapdog media can an Hispanic Obama voter be instantly transformed into the poster boy for white racism.
Justice has been done, in a case that never should have been brought. I join with law professor William Jacobson’s call:
“The just verdict was reached. As I have said repeatedly, this was a case that never should have been brought. It’s not too early to demand an inquiry into the prosecution of this case. Angela Corey should resign.”

As a CANADIAN I am SHOCKED at the American judicial system.When innocent people cannot walk in their own neighborhood to go home it is pretty bad and says a lot to the rest of the world.My sympathy to TRAYVON MARTIN’S parents and who said the rest of the world thinks the USA is the best place in the world??In my country if you just murdered someone you would not get your gun back,especially when you are a brute wife beater etc.
I hope a civil suit follow …
My heart goes out to the Martin family.I know first hand how it feels to lose a child so violently.In August of 2005 my six month old baby girl died in my arms at the hands of her own father.I will continue to keep yond that onufamily in my prayers cause I believed you as a mother and father know who is in control andvthat is GOD who will seek justice for Treyvon
