The Democratic Presidential campaign is getting extremely heated, but the Hillary Clinton campaign is making major blunders that could reverberate on her chances to be the nominee of the party long term.
Husband Bill Clinton unleashing a denunciation of Bernie Sanders is totally unwise, and reminds us of how he helped to ruin his wife’s candidacy in 2008, when he bitterly engaged in what many thought was racism in his attacks on Barack Obama.
The best thing Bill Clinton could do is SHUT UP, and stay out of the campaign, and let his wife fight her own battles, as his involvement is counterproductive.
But also, the decision of former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright at a Hillary Clinton rally; and of feminist icon Gloria Steinem on Bill Maher’s show, to be critical of young women who are flocking to Bernie Sanders’s campaign, is also extremely counterproductive, as no young woman or young man or anyone has an obligation to support Hillary because she is a woman!
All these new developments are doing is make the chance 0f unity of Democrats for the Fall campaign far less likely, and the end result could be the Democrats could lose the national election to the Republicans, and condemn America to a right wing extremist government, that will have the ability to transform the Supreme Court to the far right, and lose a generation or more of reasonable constitutional law!
Ronald,
Addressing “Major Blundersâ€â€”After last Saturday’s [February 6, 2016] debate, on ABC, do you still think the 2016 Republican presidential nomination will be won by Florida U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio?
No, LOL, but I hate to admit I might be wrong!
I had a sense that he would be the nominee, but if I had my choice, it would be John Kasich, who now MIGHT very well surge and be the choice, easily the best person in the race, as I have said before.
This is an extremely tumultuous year, in many ways the most since 1968, and NOTHING is predictable, or so it seems.
It makes for interesting, but scary times!
I see that Bernie has had to fuss at his supporters over some sexist comments.
http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2016/02/07/3746988/bernie-sanders-tells-berniebros-to-knock-it-off-we-dont-want-that-crap/
Bernie’s supporters and Hillary’s supporters should be ashamed of themselves for acting no better than Republicans!
As a woman myself, I don’t particularly like someone telling me that I am “voting for candidate X “based on who had the vaginaâ€.” As Bernie rightfully told his supporters, that’s disgusting.
I also don’t appreciate what Gloria Steinem and Madeline Albright said about young women.
If Hillary is the nominee, expect the very same thing from Republicans.
Those disgusting comments sound like something Trump supporters would say. Maybe they’re trying to troll the Democrats.
That Think Progress article mentioned they are using the term “Clitrash” to refer to Hillary. It’s ok to disagree with her policies but it’s not ok to call her ugly names like that.
Southern Liberal writes, “I also don’t appreciate what Gloria Steinem [on the 02.05.2016 HBO “Real Time with Bill Maher”] and Madeline Albright [on the campaign trail with Hillary Clinton] said about young women.”
Not intelligent.
Not inspiring.
Not in tune with young people.
Those Iowa Democratic presidential entrance polls (from CNN) showed a divide. The youngest voting-age group, 17 to 29 (as noted by CNN), having carried for Bernie Sanders with 84 percent of their vote (their size of the vote was 18 percent), is screaming to Hillary Clinton and her campaign, “Get in touch with what we have going on in our lives. We are in horrible debt. We want aggressive solutions. We don’t want to be suffocating with college loans and low-paying jobs which may require us to possible spend what seems the rest of our lives paying them off. And we want incomes which allow us to also have a life when we’re not on the clock.”
So, Gloria Steinhem and Madeline Albright are playing older wiser women—who likely don’t suffer such financial concerns—telling younger women that their focus should be getting a first female president of the United States (even if that first female of the United States has policy ideas inferior to her male party rival).
Such stupid and inexcusable nonsense!
If Election 2016 was about getting the best, first female U.S. president—and she is from the Democratic Party (no such potential exists on the Republican side)—voters would elect Elizabeth Warren the nation’s 45th president.
D, I must say I totally agree with you!
Our entertainment is an influence. A lot of movies and TV programs show rude and crude as being acceptable. That’s a factor into Trump’s popularity, as well as those disgusting comments made by those Sanders supporters.
Even Elizabeth Warren would be subject to sexist attacks, although, more so from the Republicans, because, like D said, I think she would unite the Democrats.
For a primary, do you have to register with a particular party in order to vote or can anyone vote?
Southern Liberal, it depends on state election and voting regulations.
In New Hampshire, one could have chosen today which party to register in, and then vote, but that is not so everywhere.
Southern Liberal,
You should check with your home state. (Information should be available online.) Some states may require you to be registered, ahead of time, with a political party if you intend to vote in that party’s primary/caucus.
I have a relative in Colorado. And I was told that that is applicable in Colorado. I am in Michigan. In Michigan, you don’t have to be registered for any party. (I did not declare when I registered at age 21 in 1992.) In primaries, when both parties are scheduled the same day, I have to chose one or the other if I’m wanting to participate. But, in 2012, I was able to participate in the presidential and senatorial primaries, in both parties, as they were not held on the same day.
This has to do with open and closed primaries. I’m in a state that is open. And, of course, this could end up becoming changed. But with some people’s voting patterns historically changing (some do, some don’t), the open primary may be retained in a state to encourage participation in the nominating process.
So, again, I would encourage you to find out so that you are certain before that primary/caucus date arrives for your home state.
Thanks, D, for providing that valuable information to Southern Liberal and my other readers!
I’ve found out that in my state, Virginia, anyone can vote and you choose your party’s ballot at your voting location.
Southern Liberal,
Based on your comment about being told to vote for someone because of what’s below their bellybutton, The Donald would leave you to believe it was Ted Cruz. LOL!
