The Filibuster Champions: Ted Cruz And Rand Paul, Self Destructing Before Our Eyes!

The Senate filibuster used to be employed to prevent civil rights legislation, with South Carolina Senator Strom Thurmond becoming infamous for the longest individual filibuster in Senate history in 1957 on that subject. Thurmond does not look very good in history due to his prejudiced, narrow minded stand on that topic.

Now Senator Rand Paul has used the filibuster tactic months ago to protest drone policy on foreign soil, and a crazy fear that drones would be used against Americans on domestic soil.

And Senator Ted Cruz is right this minute using the filibuster to attempt to destroy ObamaCare, denying millions of Americans the opportunity to have decent health care.

Neither Paul from months ago, and Cruz today, are going to change American policy, as the President will use drones only overseas, as a measure of defense and security policy against terrorists, including Americans who fight for the enemy; and ObamaCare will proceed, no matter what Cruz says or does.

But in the process, only the loonies on the extreme right will rally to either Paul or Cruz, and the Tea Party movement may have impact in the House of Representatives and with a few Senators, but both men are self destructing before our eyes by their own words and actions! If the GOP is nuts enough to nominate either of these characters for President, they will get what they deserve, a walloping defeat in 2016!

I turned in and the jerk Cruz was reading Green Eggs and Ham on the Senate floor. Wonder how much that’s costing? I really don’t want my tax dollars paying for Cruz to read GE and H on the Senate floor.

I tuned in one time and they panned around the chamber. He was speaking to a bunch of empty chairs!

Where is Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey when you need it? I’m sure the circus could find a position for Cruz among its clown crew.

What in the world do other countries think when they see our Congress in action? Sickening, absolutely sickening.

Sen. Cruz is fighting for the real America as outlined in the Constitution and not some European version that the progressives love. When l took my oath to the uphold the Constitution and fight for the country I did it and would gladly stand by a principled man such as Ted Cruz and do it again. He is one of the very few elected men worth following in Washington.

Dave, you are delusional, and cannot see that Ted Cruz is a snob, an arrogant egotist, who if he met you, would not give you the time of day, so to speak, as he thinks anyone who has not gone to Harvard, Yale or Princeton, is not worth his time.

And yet, he has the gall to refer to Harvard Law professors, who helped him to succeed, to call them COMMUNISTS, copying tactics of his look alike, Senator Joseph McCarthy, and expressing admiration for the hate monger, Senator Jesse Helms, who he says he wishes there were 100 of Helms in the Senate today! You have real problems mentally if you see Cruz as someone to admire!

And the Constitution has within it, the “elastic clause”, which allows for a BROAD interpretation of the Constitution, since the Founding Fathers, a lot smarter than you or me, understood that the future would be different than the state of affairs in 1787. So you wish to live in the 18th century, but I choose, and all sane people do, to live in the 21st century, which is vastly different than the 18th century.

And we CAN learn from Europe, which is where our forebears came from, and gave us our basic ideas–particularly Great Britain and France! Did you miss those days in school when that was discussed, Dave?

Once again, Davy Knows Nothing lives up to his name!

    Hello Professor,
I am so sorry that I came to this conversation so late. But here goes anyway.
Once again “Know Nothing Davey”, with his religious based education has no concept of whom our founding fathers held in such high esteem. The Frenchman named Voltaire.

Voltaire was a French Enlightenment writer, (our founding fathers were very much followers of the Age of Enlightenment and it’s values) historian and philosopher famous for his wit, his attacks on the established Catholic Church, and his advocacy of freedom of religion, freedom of expression, and separation of church and state. (Wow Davey…sound familiar?)

The words in our Constitution were basically verbatim from Voltaire’s writings. Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson communicated with this EUROPEAN influence on a regular basis. Sometimes face to face on their visits to France.

Now let us not forget the contributions to our Constitution by Cesare, Marquis of Beccaria-Bonesana. He was an Italian jurist, philosopher and politician best known for his treatise, “On Crimes and Punishments”, which condemned torture and the death penalty, and was a founding work in the field of penology and the Classical School of criminology. Much of our judicial crime and punishment even being employed today, came from this European’s influences.

So once again “Know Nothing Davey” has demonstrated for our benefit and entertainment, his severe and egregious lack of knowledge in U.S. History. Boy he can spew some fantasy gibberish can’t he?.

    Great job, Engineer!

New York Times wrote about him:
    “G.O.P. Moderates Fear Coup”
“ He is closely identified with the right-wing of the Republican Party”
“He is a scornful critic of ‘encroaching Federal control.’ He fears our birth right is being eroded and that we are drifting toward the ‘collectivist’ philosophy of Socialism, the precursor to tyrannical Communism.”
“He does not believe in a government run health care system either, but rather private health insurance plan.
and he tends to interpret the Constitution strictly.”
“He believes liberals have plans for socialism by means of encroaching Federal controls. He regards slavery as the inevitable consequence of socialism.”
“Democrats and moderate Republicans say he is as a “right-winger” and “unstable.” Unstable. As in: mentally unsound.”
“The RNC stated that he is as an obstacle to a Republican realignment.”
”Republican House leaders said of his budget proposal; “It’s unreal, it’s just unreal.”

He said such outrages and extreme wacko stuff as:
“Experimenting with the lives of millions of people capriciously is much different than juggling test tubes in a laboratory. If damage is done to the nation, it is almost impossible to rectify; the bad drives out the good…”
“I think basically that I stand for what the bulk of Americans stand for — dignity, freedom of the individual, the right to determine your own destiny.”
“It would be immoral and the height of folly to infer these people are less patriotic than ourselves. They are sincerely motivated by the most humanitarian of ideals. But it would be equally foolish to let them have their way without opposition. If someone is setting fire to the house, it doesn’t really matter if he is a deliberate arsonist or just a fool playing with matches; the damage will be the same.”

    WHO IS HE??

Nice try, Eugene. Comparing Ted Cruz to Ronald Reagan.
I read the American Spectator also. But, it replaced Mad Magazine
for my monthly sophomoric comedy fix.
