Republicans On The Short End Of Public Opinion Polls And Declining Rapidly

In the latest USA Today-Pew Research Center Poll, President Barack Obama scores 51 percent, Democrats in Congress 37 percent, and Republicans in Congress 25 percent.

This happens at a time when public opinion backs Obama on the budget, gun laws, and immigration reform.

And the Tea Party Republicans only add to the problems of the GOP, as well as the National Rifle Association targeting Republicans in primaries for 2014, including the one Senator still regarded as a “moderate” by most political observers to her detriment, Maine Senator Susan Collins.

So, after having lost five of the last six Presidential elections in popular votes, and only winning 2000 with the intervention of the Supreme Court, the Republicans looks more than ever self destructive and on the road to oblivion!

Sarah Palin And Polls: All Time High Unfavorability!

Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has reached an all time high unfavorable rating in the USA Today and CNN polls, after her disastrous reaction to the Tucson shootings and her use of the term “blood libel”, which has outraged the Jewish community and intelligent people everywhere.

The USA Today poll puts her negative ratings at 53 percent, and the CNN poll at 56 percent.

Sarah made clear on the Sean Hannity show on Fox News Channel that she would “not sit down and shut up”, and certainly there is no way to make that happen, and no one wants to take away her freedom of speech.

But, effectively, the American public is saying precisely that: Please sit down and shut up!

Since she will just do exactly the opposite, she is a gift that keeps on giving to the Democrats and President Obama, and is a burden on the GOP and the Presidential race!

Poverty Growing Among America’s Children!

A recent USA TODAY article details the fact that more than one out of every five children in America in in poverty, and that it is the highest such percentage in two decades! 🙁

Eighteen percent do not have a secure source of food, and a half million are homeless! 🙁

This is, unfortunately, a state of affairs that leads to more health and education problems long term! Poverty also has a long range effect psychologically on children who suffer from it while they are growing up! 🙁

One would think that this would be an issue of urgency, but at least to the conservative Heritage Foundation, it is not, as one of its researchers states that poor families receive food stamps and housing assistance, although he does not point out that these aids are far from adequate! But the same researcher claims that government programs are ineffective in making lives of children better, and are just an excuse for more government programs and spending!

Somehow missing from this researcher’s assertions is any compassion for the harm done to children who are in poverty, and instead the emphasis on attacking government, even though private charities and groups have been proved inadequate in dealing with the problem of hunger and poverty!
