Yesterday, Sunday, May 17, on the DC National Mall, there was a so called “Day Of Prayer” to celebrate 250 years of American Independence, organized by Freedom 250, a subsidiary of the National Park Foundation.
This was a total farce, as it was simply an evangelical right wing Christian event, ignoring Catholics, mainstream Protestants, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, and other religious beliefs.
It included involvement by Trump Administration leaders who are total hypocrites in their so called religious beliefs, and do not lead lives that are models for others.
But, very revealing, was the fact that Trump did not even participate personally in the long hours event, preferring instead to go golfing.
And it goes against the Founding Fathers who promoted total separation of church and state, and would condemn a right wing extremist version of Christianity, and the concept that America is a so called “Christian” nation, when that was not the purpose of the American Revolution.
The idea that Donald Trump is promoting extremist Christianity is a total falsehood, as he has no belief in religion, and only exploits it for his own aggrandizement.
Instead of promoting the love and compassion represented by Pope Leo XIV and religious leaders of many denominations, instead the goal is to divide and stir hatred of anyone who does not accept the extremist views of pastors and politicians who see religion as a way to promote greedy acquisition of wealth, at the expense of the vast number of Americans who struggle to advance themselves in a society which worships money above all.
If left to this extremist white supremacist Christianity, women, immigrants, and racial minorities would be subjected to discrimination, and represent a reversal of the civil rights movement of the 1960s, which promoted an expansion of American democracy.
