Hard to believe, but the Presidential Election campaigns for 2028 are around the corner, and will begin in earnest once we pass Midterm Election Day on November 3, 2026.
And already, the Democratic Party has decided its plans for early primaries, subject to final determination in August, in a manner that makes a lot of sense, in the view of this author and blogger.
For a Saturday and followed by five consecutive Tuesdays, Democrats plan to have early primaries before “Super Tuesday” in March.
South Carolina Saturday January 22
Nevada Tuesday February 1
New Hampshire Tuesday February 8
New Mexico Tuesday February 15
Michigan Tuesday February 22
Virginia Tuesday February 29
Super Tuesday March 7
Under this proposed plan, the South would be represented early on by South Carolina and Virginia; the Northeast by New Hampshire; the Midwest by Michigan; and the West by Nevada and New Mexico.
Iowa, with its historically early caucuses, is left out of the mix, and while the “Hawkeye” State is dramatically unhappy over this likely development, it has never really made sense why that small rural state has been able to have such impact early in the every four years Presidential race.
No matter what group of states are chosen to go early in selection of candidates and delegates, there will be unhappy reactions, but the tentative selection seems reasonable.
