The Need To End The Iowa Caucuses And All Caucuses, And Have A National Primary Day In June Of Presidential Election Years

The Iowa Caucuses debacle, at this writing, no results due to “technical glitches with the new app”, is just further reason to end the Iowa Caucuses and the few other states that have such caucuses.–Nevada, Wyoming–and have a National Primary Day in June of the Presidential election years.

All candidates should campaign nationally, and the idea that small, unrepresentative states such as Iowa and New Hampshire, should have such attention paid to them, as they gain through the present system, should end.

Just as we have a National Election Day, we should have a National Primary Day, and that would be better for the parties and the nation. The only caveat might be, as in most states, that early voting could take place for up to three weeks before the election, but no vote count allowed until the end of National Primary Day.

This would enliven interest in the election, and force candidates to campaign in different ways, but with one result for each party with five months to go until the election in November!

They claim the app wasn’t hacked. However, I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if we find out that the Russians are behind this. Anyway, it shows the importance of having a paper trail.

The whole thing looked stupid to me. It was like watching a bunch of ants moving around here and there.

They’re going to have some results by 5 pm EST today.

Results are coming in. Buttigeig and Sanders are initial leaders with 62% of precincts reporting so far. Pete Buttigieg is leading with 26.9%. Bernie Sanders is in second with 25.1%.

There is a clear geographic split to the results so far: Sanders has won more caucuses in central urban areas and Buttigieg has won more caucuses further from central cities (suburbs and rural areas). Warren is doing best in high-education areas.

I think this will hurt Biden in New Hampshire and Nevada, but I’m not sure that will matter much if Biden holds on to his lead with black voters, who dominate the electorate in South Carolina and many Super Tuesday states.

It is possible that Pete wins Iowa, Sanders wins NH, and Biden wins SC…that will be wild.

Princess Leia, I agree generally with you, but think Joe Biden is in deep trouble long term, but we shall see after March 3, Super Tuesday!

Been getting lots of election mail from Bloomberg’s campaign. I’ll admit, he’s growing on me, and may be one of my alternatives to Biden.

Primaries are the key; that’s when large groups of people vote. Heading to caucuses is not a key indication of voters, only that of the most ardent.

Let’s wait for NH and SC, and then we’ll see. Even Nevada has a caucus, a diminishing form that is heading for extinction. By the close of Super Tuesday we’ll have the clearest idea of who’s on top or near the top.

    I’m still predicting Biden.

Pete, to me, is the most eloquent, free-style speaker I’ve seen. Warren is probably next. Pete just intrigues me….the guy is really smart. Impeached President tRump on the other hand has never, ever said anything that makes me want to hear his 2nd sentence. He’s a 3rd-grade man-child. Witness his behavior during the Super Bowl’s National Anthem. WTF?!

OMG! Trump awarded Rush Limbaugh the Presidential Medal of Freedom during the SOTU! Sickening!

Medal of Honor for a scumbag. How appropriate. If I had one I’d give it back right now.

  14. Pragmatic Progressive February 4, 2020 10:04 pm

Not just announcing but giving it to him on the spot.
    This is obscene.

The Medal of Freedom to Rush Limbaugh ?
    OMG.
    This is a parody.

  16. Southern Liberal February 4, 2020 10:05 pm

Rush Limbaugh. He has inspired racism and hate everywhere and he has created even more division in our country… certainly not worthy of any award.

  17. Rational Lefty February 4, 2020 10:08 pm

I had to turn it off. Rush Limbaugh was too much. We are deep beyond the looking glass.

That “speech” was a koolaid cult classic horror show with all the conservative wet dreams.

Loved Pelosi ripping that “speech” up! 🙂
