It seems to this blogger and author that we are on the cusp of a Blue “Tsunami”, which will dramatically change both houses of Congress.
The Senate, presently 45 Democrats and Two Independents (Bernie Sanders of Vermont, Angus King of Maine), and 53 Republicans, are highly likely to see a massive switch of seats.
I believe there will be a switch of ELEVEN Republican seats to the Democrats, including one new “Independent”, making the Senate 55 Democrats and 3 Independents, with Dan Osborn of Nebraska being the new “Independent”, as against the Republicans, who would have 42 seats.
Here are my predictions, and even if somewhat wrong, definitely, a Democratic majority seems certain.
First, Georgia with Jon Ossoff will win big, and the new Democratic candidates in Michigan (Abdul El-Sayed); Minnesota (Peggy Flanagan); and New Hampshire (Chris Pappas) will keep those seats Democratic.
But beyond that, 11 seats will change, 10 Democrats and 1 Independent who will align with the Democrats:
Maine–Troy Jackson
North Carolina–Roy Cooper
South Carolina–Dr Annie Andrews
Florida–Angie Nixon
Mississippi–Scott Colum
Texas–James Talarico
Ohio–Sherrod Brown
Kansas–Adam Hamilton
Iowa–Josh Turek
Nebraska–Dan Osborn (Independent)
Alaska–Mary Peltola
The most massive change (13 seats) occurred once in 1958 when Democrats won 13 seats in the Midterm Elections of that year, during the Presidency of Dwight D. Eisenhower.
Three times–1980 Republicans gained 12 seats with election of Ronald Reagan; 1946 Republicans gained 12 seats in Midterm Elections under Harry Truman; and 1932 Democrats gained 12 seats with election of Franklin D. Roosevelt.
There is also a slight possibility that Montana with Independent Seth Bodnar; Idaho with Independent Todd Achilles; Kentucky with Charles Booker; and South Dakota with Independent Brian Bengs, might have a shot at winning, but it seems highly unlikely.
We shall see how accurate my projections are in a few days.
