Taking A 2 Week Hiatus From Commentary

After NOT having any time off from commentary in the year 2025, this author and blogger is taking a 2 week hiatus from posting any entries, as I go on vacation.

I expect to be back on Tuesday June 24, knowing a lot of disturbing news will occur in the interim, but everyone needs a break.

I will “see” my readers and followers later in the month, and wish everyone the best in a difficult time.

This is what dictatorship looks like.

Now Israel has launched strikes on Iran.

  3. Pragmatic Progressive June 12, 2025 9:33 pm

CNN is saying that top military leaders and nuclear scientists were targeted in the strikes.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in an address on YouTube that the attacks will continue “for as many days at it takes to remove this threat.”

A federal judge has ruled that Trump unlawfully federalized members of California’s National Guard.

Minnesota State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark, were shot and killed early Saturday morning in “what appears to be a politically-motivated assassination,” Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said at a news conference Saturday.

This is HEAVILY Trump’s fault – for pulling the US out of the Iran nuclear deal negotiated in the Obama administration. F’ing idiot!

Vance Boelter, the suspect in the shootings of two Minnesota lawmakers and their spouses, was arrested on Sunday. He is charged with two counts each of second-degree murder and second-degree attempted murder. He fatally shot Democratic state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband Saturday at their home after wounding Democratic state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife at their home. While a motive isn’t yet known, the suspect had an apparent hit list with dozens of names. The list included names of prominent Democrats and figures with ties to Planned Parenthood or the abortion rights movement.

I think the G7 is happening this week. With the way Trump has been treating our allies, I’m rather surprised that he’s going to it.

  9. Rustbelt Democrat June 16, 2025 9:00 am

    F–k Trump!

Trump’s brain is completely broken, as are the brains of those who still support him.

  13. Rustbelt Democrat June 17, 2025 9:49 am

It’s appalling that 42% of Americans approve of this guy…

Right-wing disinformation machine spins up a false profile of Minnesota shooting suspect.

The suspect is reportedly a Trump supporter who railed against abortion and the LGBTQ community. But as the public waited for more information, conservatives spun a profile of a far-left Tim Walz ally who assassinated Democratic lawmakers over immigration.

Now the MAGA cultists will have an accessory to match their golden Trump shoes.

And watch, and Trump Bible, and trading cards, and a MAGA at of course.

Some officials have told CNN that Trump is growing increasingly warm to using US military assets to strike Iranian nuclear facilities and souring on the idea of a diplomatic solution to end the escalating conflict.

  22. Rational Lefty June 17, 2025 3:25 pm

A bit earlier today, Trump issued a series of warnings to Iran, calling Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei an “easy target” and saying that America’s “patience is wearing thin.”

“We know exactly where the so-called ‘Supreme Leader’ is hiding. He is an easy target but is safe there — We are not going to take him out (kill!), at least not for now. But we don’t want missiles shot at civilians, or American soldiers. Our patience is wearing thin. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.

In a one-line followup post, Trump wrote in all caps: “UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER.”

The Democratic Party of Virginia has their statewide ticket: former Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger for Governor, State Senator Ghazala Hashmi for Lieutenant Governor, and former Delegate Jay Jones for Attorney General.

  24. Princess Leia June 18, 2025 8:14 am

I was personally hoping for an all woman ticket, but I’ll take that anyway.

  25. Pragmatic Progressive June 18, 2025 8:21 am

    Here’s some information about them:

Abigail Spanberger served three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives from January 2019 to January 2025. During her three terms in Congress, Spanberger was consistently ranked the most bipartisan Member of Congress from Virginia. Before Congress, Spanberger served as a federal law enforcement officer — working narcotics and money laundering cases. She then served as a CIA case officer — working on counterterrorism and nuclear counterproliferation cases. She and her husband Adam are the proud parents of three school-aged daughters in Virginia public schools.

Ghazala Hashmi emigrated with her mother and older brother from India to the United States where they joined her father in Georgia. After graduating as valedictorian of her high school class and receiving multiple full scholarships and fellowships, Ghazala earned a BA with honors from Georgia Southern University and her PhD in American literature from Emory University in Atlanta. Ghazala and her husband, Azhar, moved as newlyweds to the Richmond area in 1991, and she spent nearly 30 years as a professor, first teaching at the University of Richmond and then at Reynolds Community College. While at Reynolds, she also served as the Founding Director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL). First elected to office in November 2019, Ghazala won an upset victory over a Republican incumbent, delivering the majority to Democrats for the first time in years and shocking the political establishment. In 2024, because of the confidence her Democratic colleagues have in her, she was named Chair of the Senate Education and Health Committee, a crucial leadership post for two critical Democratic priorities, reproductive freedom and public education.

Jay Jones grew up in Norfolk, raised by Judge Jerrauld C. Jones and Judge Lyn Simmons Jones. After he graduated from College of William and Mary and the University of Virginia School of Law, he served as an Assistant Attorney General in the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia, where he was a member of the Office of Consumer Protection. In 2017, he was elected to the House of Delegates, where he protected abortion rights, expanded Medicaid, and gave teachers annual pay raises. He also led the fight on behalf of the Virginia NAACP against the Youngkin-Sears administration to protect voting rights.

    That’s insane!

  27. Former Republican June 19, 2025 11:07 am

Reporting is that Tulsi Gabbard has been sidelined by Trump from this debate over whether or not to attack Iran.

Also, Netanyahu is increasing calling for regime change in Iran.

  28. Princess Leia June 19, 2025 11:56 am

    Insanity. Also very dangerous.

  29. Rustbelt Democrat June 19, 2025 11:59 am

I will never fully understand why the DNC elected Ken Martin over Ben Wikler for Chair.

A Wild Number of People Have Already Blocked JD Vance on Bluesky

JD Vance’s Bluesky launch is not going smoothly. The vice president had already been blocked by more than 55,000 users on the social media site, according to ClearSky, a third-party tool that tracks Bluesky user activity. At time of writing, he had just under 5,000 followers.

Iran has responded. They’ve launched missiles at a US military base at Qatar.

Qatar defense ministry says it intercepted the Iranian missile attack, no casualties reported.

In addition to Qatar, some bases in Iraq are under attack too.
