Joe Biden Moves To The Forefront As Michael Bloomberg And Sherrod Brown Decide Not To Run For President

With moderates Michael Bloomberg and Sherrod Brown deciding not to run for President in 2020, Joe Biden moves to the forefront as the best moderate centrist Democratic Presidential candidate, at least on paper in and polls.

We also have Senator Amy Klobuchar, former San Antonio Mayor and Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julian Castro, former El Paso Congressman Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke, plus possibly John Hickenlooper, former Colorado Governor, who has just announced for President as possible moderates who might compete.

With Klobuchar apparently the only candidate from the Midwest “battleground” states that Hillary Clinton lost, and Castro and O’Rourke from Texas, which could conceivably go “Blue” and make it unnecessary for a Democrat to win the Midwest, and Hickenlooper from a critical Rocky Mountain West state, any of them could be the person to replace Joe Biden, if he falters, and any of them could also be the Vice Presidential running mage with Joe Biden.

At this point, these five listed above are probably those with an edge to win the nation, rather than further left nominees, but it is clear that the race is wide open, and all candidates will have to be vetted, and many will fall short, and none will be perfect in their backgrounds and records in office.

I agree completely with this article, that Joe Biden, while he has shortcomings and faults, also has his virtues.

If we are looking for a perfect candidate, we will never be happy with any candidate, but I am still, at this point, supporting Joe Biden as the best choice, although I indicated others in this article above who I think are also outstanding, with particular strong feelings for Klobuchar and Castro!

    No.

The following paragraph is a description of the below video, titled “Clinton-Era Official Says Left Should Lead Following Center-Right Failures.” (It was published to YouTube on March 7, 2019 by “The Real News.”)

“[Host Marc Steiner welcomes author and UMKC economics professor William K. Black, who] analyzes [former Clinton Administration] Assistant Secretary of Treasury [J. Bradford DeLong’s recent] statement that [neoliberals] should get out of the way and let the left lead since coalition with Republicans did not work.”

Well D, we shall see if you are right.

I fear that the word “Socialism”, and now “antisemitism” will be effectively used against the left in the Democratic Party, and that we will end up with a second term of Donald Trump or Mike Pence. I hope you are right, and I am wrong!

Elizabeth Warren wants to break up big tech, such as Amazon, Google, Apple, and Facebook. When she tried to explain how she wants to do that, it left me rather confused.

I’m a loyal Amazon customer because of convenience. Will I still be able to go on Amazon and find movies, books, music, etc.?

I have an Android phone, serviced through TracFone, because of the cheaper prices of TracFone than Apple’s iPhones. Will I still be able to go to Google’s app store and download apps for my phone?

I am a customer of Apple’s iTunes music downloads. Again, because of convenience. Will I still be able to download music I want quickly?

It’s little things like that that she needs to explain to consumers who use these platforms on a daily basis.

As a consumer, I feel that Comcast, Verizon, and Pfizer abuse me a lot more than Google does.

These companies she mentions are successful because people have voted with their pocketbooks on the services they want and the price they are willing to pay for them. Google enables me to do a variety of things (emails, browsing, maps, etc.) that really make a difference to me.

She claims we’ll still be able to shop for whatever we want on Amazon, see our friends on Facebook, etc. Suppose it has the opposite effect? Things like this have consequences for consumers.

A new Gallup poll finds that former Vice President Joe Biden holds an 80% favorable rating and 9% unfavorable rating among Democrats. This topped all other current or potential 2020 presidential Democratic candidates.

Democrats like Biden because he was the vice president to the most popular Democrat in the country, Barack Obama.

    This would be good.

These companies are not merely “big”; they dominate.

It is good to go after Amazon because it is—like Walmart—now damaging to other businesses and the economies of different areas of the U.S. (It was good New York “lost” out on Amazon.) Frankly, owner Jeff Bezos is getting away without paying anywhere near the level of taxes he should.

Google and Facebook, the former which owns YouTube, are now into censorship. (YouTube is demonstrating it with demonetizations and algorithms.) So, their major social-media platforms, along with Twitter also doing censorship, have become a danger to free speech. (They’re not currently held accountable.)

It is also necessary to go after the Telecommunications Act of 1996, made law during the presidency of Bill Clinton, which now has the ownership of mass media sources by less than ten individual companies. That has become obvious with the content—the created narratives—from broadcast and cable news programmers.

Good questions, Southern Liberal, and others. These concerns are why I don’t think ideas by Elizabeth Warren will go over well outside of more liberal areas of the country.

Most people in our neck of the woods like Walmart’s low prices.

I guess no one told her that Amazon carries products from third party sellers and has done so for years. There are thousands of small businesses thriving by selling goods on Amazon, many of them don’t even make the products they sell on Amazon but use it as an extension of their physical locations or to maximize their warehouse space.

If you don’t want to shop at Amazon or Walmart or do your searching on Google, there are plenty of other choices out there for consumers. Ebay, Target, Wayfair, Yahoo, Bing, etc.

Our family is typical of average American families. We shop at popular stores, we buy popular brands, we listen to popular music, we watch popular movies and TV shows.

Who on YouTube or Twitter is being censored? Is it Neo-Nazis spreading hate? They deserve to be censored then. You have the right to free speech but it is not guaranteed for anything offensive.

  16. Rational Lefty March 10, 2019 10:41 am

A friend of mine quit social media because of people showing their ugly sides. If you use these platforms to bully, etc., then you deserve to be banned from them.

I backup my digital files – photos, music, important documents – to Google Drive and Microsoft’s OneDrive cloud services. That’s one reason I’m scared of these companies breaking up.

  18. Southern Liberal March 10, 2019 6:53 pm

I second that fear Rational Lefty. Elizabeth Warren needs to reassure us that everything we have stored digitally in the “cloud” won’t get affected.

  19. Pragmatic Progressive March 11, 2019 8:39 am

D – What about PBS news? Do you dislike that as well? That isn’t run by a major corporation.
