Donald Trump Pledge Not To Run Independently Is Not Worth The Paper It Is Printed On!

All of a sudden, Donald Trump has signed a pledge not to run independently, and to back whoever wins the Republican Presidential nomination.

Anyone who believes he will keep his word is naive and delusional, as it is only a pledge for now since Trump is leading in all public opinion polls and could mount an independent campaign with his own money, a la Ross Perot in 1992 and 1996.

Perot well knew he could not win as an Independent, but ran anyway, and helped Bill Clinton in both elections.

This time, ironically, a Trump independent candidacy would insure that Hillary Clinton, or possibly Joe Biden or even Bernie Sanders, would win.

If one holds his or her breath hoping that Trump will be loyal to his pledge, think again and start breathing!

If I’ve been correctly following…Thom Hartmann theorizes that Donald Trump is there to destroy the candidacy of Jeb Bush and, after that is done, eventually drop out to pave the way for Scott Walker. That it’s Donald Trump/Koch brothers scheme. (Hartmann has taken notice that Trump has never said anything truly cutting about the Wisconsin governor as he has with the likes of the ex-Florida governor and the previous Texas governor Rick Perry, among numerous others. It’s a good point from Hartmann.)

I have decided not to engage in following the latest with Donald Trump because, in all honesty, it isn’t worth any of my time. (I have to see how I fare with this as time moves along.) I know it’s for show. I know that this is partly about Trump speaking The Language of the Base [of the Republican Party] and, if he were to actually stay in the race and win his party’s presidential nomination, the general election would be him speaking The Language of the Electorate. (How well? I’m not saying.) This is, of course, giving him credit for some intelligence.

I think that ABC, CBS, and NBC are corrupted (along with Fox) that the most recent with Univision’s Jorge Ramos illustrated exactly what collective integrity is nowadays shown by Mainstream (I like to call it “Corporate News”) In other words: they don’t have any. (The overwhelming majority are hacks.)

Donald Trump is doing a good job of commanding attention, keeping it, and doing his song (not so much so with the dance part) for entertainment purposes. The Republican faithful—the ones who answer polls saying that President Obama was not born in the U.S. and that he was the president at the time, and deserves blame for, when Hurricane Katrina struck in 2005 Louisiana—are already there. We’ll find out, eventually, what will come of Donald Trump actually winning his party’s nomination and getting to move on and try to sell his platform in the general election for 2016.

I differ from D in regards to news sources. I find ABC, NBC, and CBS News more reliable than Fox News.

Oh, I agree that CBS, NBC and ABC are better than Fox News, but not what they once were in the era of Walter Cronkite, Huntley and Brinkley, and Howard K. Smith.

But I am also disappointed at the deterioration of CNN and even MSNBC, too much emphasis on sensationalism and killing one story to death for too long, as if the rest of the world does not exist.

And none of the American news media adequately cover foreign events, with BBC being far better.

I find CBS, ABC, NBC and CNN somewhere in between left/right.

The changes at MSNBC for daytime programming (less opinion, more straight-forward news) shows it’s moving towards the middle for daytime programs. Nighttime is still left-wing programming. Wish they would get rid of the prison programs on the weekend but I guess that’s to give the news people a break. Plus, those shows are probably on because a lot of people are busy on the weekend, shopping, doing yard work, etc.

    Fox is definitely right-wing.

I don’t watch the programming too much. I read the online articles and those seem to be as Southern Liberal said, somewhere in the middle, except for Fox.

What I’m referring to is the nightly news, that comes on at suppertime, which is straight-forward, and not their opinion programs.

As the professor said various times. The democrats shouldn’t worry. The electoral college favors Democrats. So why worry about Trump at all, whether he keeps or not his pledge?

Other than a bad time slot, I think Ed’s show got axed because he was promoting Bernie and bashing Hillary.

  9. Pragmatic Progressive September 6, 2015 8:31 pm

I remember during the election of 2010 that Ed was encouraging progressives/liberals to stay home over nit-picky issues. Of course, that nit-picky-ness lost us the House.

He makes a good point in that link. Not every part of the country is ultra-conservative or ultra-progressive. As he says, many places are middle of the road with a slight lean one way or the other. Most mainstream news I’ve come across is in that middle of the road territory.

I just heard that Al Roker’s morning show on the Weather Channel, also tied in with NBC, has been axed. Some reports say it’s a financial and ratings decision. Some reports say it’s because of an email spat with his boss at the Weather Channel.

    Leia,
That’s one of those cases where I say the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

    Ariel,
The Electoral College may favor Democrats but that’s not guaranteed.

  14. Southern Liberal September 9, 2015 4:56 pm

    Leia,
They’re getting rid of Sam Champion’s show too.

Also getting rid of some of those reality shows. Those I am glad to see go.
