Running For The Presidency While Out Of Office: An Advantage?

Three Presidents in the past 50 years made their successful run for the Presidency while out of office–Richard Nixon in 1968, Jimmy Carter in 1976, and Ronald Reagan in 1980. Additionally, Abraham Lincoln won in 1860 while being out of office for 12 years!

It could be that being out of office will again affect the upcoming Presidential Election of 2016.

On the Democratic side, we have Hillary Clinton, former Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer, and next year former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley all seen now as likely Presidential contenders, with Hillary having a massive edge, but still likely to have at least nominal, if not more, challenges from, at least, Schweitzer and O’Malley, based on their recent public statements.

On the Republican side, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush and former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee (who is now ahead in at least one poll) seen as possible choices to compete. Huckabee surged to the lead by bringing up the need of women to control their libidos, of all things, and this is enough in the anti women, disrespectful GOP to give him a sudden lead. The fact that Huckabee, who used to sound sane, has gone berserk since gaining an hour a week on Fox News Channel, is a sign of the trouble the Republican Party is in!

Running for the Presidency while out of office has been, and may, once again, give an edge, and only time will tell!

    An advantage? Yes
Reason? You’re never really out of the political arena, but not holding office, you can claim to be an outsider. Of course, this would not work as well for Hillary as she is not as far removed as the others you mentioned except for O’Malley of course.
But it doesn’t really matter does it Ronald? The DNC & RNC control American politics right now and we’ll get whoever they see fit. Something tells me we are going to see social experiment going against social experiment. One wants to be the first female President. The other wants to be the first Latino president all while holding duel citizenship.

I’ll keep you posted on all the Third Party option…. 😉

So, JOB, you think Ted Cruz is the GOP nominee? If so, it will be a runaway for ANY Democrat, as the nation will not elect this egotistical, obnoxious Joseph McCarthy look alike! LOL

I guess we’ll find out how much power the “Tea Party” still wields in regards to Cruz. But my Conservative friends are preferring him over Rand Paul. I’m just curious if Cruz does get the nod, will Trump be in the media arguing the birther s##t again.

Plus, I wouldn’t be so sure about ant Democrat running away with the election against Cruz. He is far more intelligent and articulate than Romney was in ’12, and will probably do much better in debates. Say what you will about Cruz, but the dude is smart.

Trump has already made it clear that he has no issue about Cruz and citizenship. I agree that Cruz is very smart, intelligent, and articulate, but he is a very evil man, and he would never win a national election!

Have to disagree with you Professor. You seem to underestimate the power of religion and stupidity.

Well, you and I can agree, JOB, but I WANT to imagine better from people! HAHAHAHA!

“Well, you and I can agree, JOB, but I WANT to imagine better from people! HAHAHAHA!”

Well Professor, as my Father always told me, “You can s##t in one hand and hope in another. Let me know which one fills up first.”
BTW- Can I curse? Or would you prefer me to censor myself? LOLOL

Yes, Princess Leia, this is wonderful news, as Clay Aiken is a very nice, and principled, young man!
