The Battle For The Dignity And Respect For The Office Of The American Presidency!

President Barack Obama has made it clear that he is NOT going to cave in to the Republican hostage takers on the subject of ObamaCare, and all power to him!

ObamaCare is Obama’s signature accomplishment, and Franklin D. Roosevelt, Lyndon B. Johnson, and every other President who has had a major domestic accomplishment would react the same way Obama is reacting—no bargaining on something already in the law and approved by the Supreme Court!

But Obama has also made it clear that the office of the Presidency deserves dignity and respect, and he will not bargain away the power of that office to a group of radical anarchists known as the Tea Party Movement!

This is not just for the Obama legacy that Obama is fighting, but also for the future of the office, as the Congress, or a radical part of it, cannot be permitted to undermine the powers and prerogatives of that office, whether we have a Republican or Democratic President in the near and far future!

Only the President is voted on by the entire population, and only he, or a future she, truly represents the nation at large!

Congress must know its place in the constitutional system, and if they are, or a faction of them are, ready to allow the full faith and credit of the American government to be breached by a failure of Congress to raise the debt limit in the next two weeks, then the President, and really any President, in the future must take executive action!

The 14th Amendment allows the President to intervene and guarantee payment of all debts, and the raising of the debt limit, and if Congress does not do it, then the President, by executive order, can and MUST do do, and let the chips fall where they may, which might, very well, include a movement by the Republican Party in the House of Representatives to impeach the President!

Obama may provoke such reckless actions by what he does, but there would never be a conviction in the US Senate, even if the GOP won a majority and controlled the chamber.

So it would be another example of what the Republicans did to Bill Clinton, which may have besmirched his historical record and his future obituary, but also greatly harmed the GOP brand.

It is time for Barack Obama to throw down the gauntlet, and say to the GOP, “Bring It On!”

The 14 th amendment argument is unconstitutional, but hey , what the heck, Obama already violated the Constitution so many times one more ain’t gonna make a different in this lawless administration, is it? Who knew the Executive had the power to modify laws (more or less 17 modifications to Obamacare alone via the Executive) and also gets to choose which laws to apply and when! But I guess anything is possible in our ever more aspiring banana republic, with all due respect to the bananas. So now we have it that
the House that is controlled by those evil Republicans passed the Full Faith and Credit law, that mandates that payments on debt interest, Social Security, Medicare and soldier’s salaries go out first . This takes default completely off the table, but what do the Democrats in the Senate do? They say NYET! They’re acting like Soviet commissars! But how is it that we can pay the debt without raising the ceiling? Gee let’s see. We bring in approx. $250 billion in tax revenue every month , with expenditures around $270 billion of which the interest on the debt payment is about $30 billion. So as a matter of fact the administration has more than enough to pay interest on the debt, SS payments, military and the rest. The problem is Obama is going to have to make choices on what is the rest when he is short around $ 20 to $ 30 billion. But under no circumstances are the payments on the interest of the debt in jeopardy. Even without mandating the interest payment first with revenue only an irresponsable President would not pay the monthly interest of $ 30 billion when he has a monthly revenue of $ 250 billion. But who knows maybe Obama does want to take us to the brink. After all we are dealing with an extreme ideological President that negotiates with no one, unless you are a terror sponsoring state and hate Israel. I know I know, numbers are just to complicated for democrats.

You are full of you know what, Eugene, and I refute what you say about Obama being lawless, while somehow, Bush and Cheney were perfect gentlemen, who put us into this mess financially that we are in. And of course, the debt limit went up multiple times under him and Reagan, but since they are Republican Presidents, they can do no wrong, right, Eugene?

I am now convinced that you are Juan Domingo Peron and Robert under a different name, and if your ridiculous and insulting attacks continue, rather than intelligent arguments, you will soon be unable to respond on this website, as you are polluting it with your extremist propaganda and hate!

Ronald: Here you go, get angry at the Investor Daily not me. Democrats Constitutionally Ignorant: http://betsymccaughey.com/democrats-constitutionally-ignorant-in-obamacare-feud/
And by the way, do you believe the President can modify laws and apply the one he believes he should apply? I’m just asking. Unless you totally negate the fact that this is what Obama has done. If so, well then I guess it’s really useless to try to have an intelligent conversation. By the way, why are you modern day leftist liberals always angry? You’re whole discourse seems to be that this world sucks, nothing is fair and blah blah blah. And why is it that you just cannot accept another point of view? If anyone disagrees with your world view then they must be just plain evil. Don’t you realize that is no way to construct a civil society? Seriously , no opposition nor dissent is allowed? What ever happen to dissent being patriotic?

Oh one more thing, why don’t your refute the numbers I put forwards regarding monthly revenues, expenditures and interest payment on the debt instead of going off on me saying I say hateful things and that I am propagandizing? Seriously, what numbers do you have? What explanation or counter argument do you have towards what I posted?

  5. Ronald October 3, 2013 5:15 pm

I have no problem with other viewpoints, Eugene, but you are out to destroy those you disagree with, and it is you who hate, not me. I am tolerant, while you are not!. And playing games with numbers is a fun game, and not reliable, when it comes from a conservative web site, just pure propaganda! I have debates all of the time with people I disagree with, but there is always an element of respect which you lack! I am open to different ideas, when they are not based on intolerance!

I second what the Professor said. Juan Roberto Eugene is full of BS!

  7. Princess Leia October 3, 2013 8:05 pm

Working to undermine one’s government because you lost an election is not an example of revering your nation or your nation’s government or citizens and I refuse to call such people who root against the American people patriots.

  8. Ronald October 3, 2013 8:08 pm

I agree with you, Princess Leia, and the point that is not realized by the right wing is that IF you keep on kicking people who are down, and do not give a damn for anyone but yourself, you are asking for an uprising and revolution when people get disgusted enough that the government is only there for the elite and the wealthy! It has happened many times in world history!

  9. Jane Doe October 3, 2013 8:09 pm

Well said Leia! I have no sympathy for these idiotic Republicans/Baggers and I do not care if they feel insulted. They are what they are. Just plain stupid people.

It would be nice to believe this could work, but let’s not hold our breath quite yet! This whole situation is a total disgrace!

“The 14th Amendment allows the President to intervene and guarantee payment of all debts, and the raising of the debt limit, and if Congress does not do it, then the President, by executive order, can and MUST do do..” This is clearly insanity on all levels! Harvard Law’s Laurence Tribe has correctly and drily pushed back against such silliness, asking rhetorically in what other areas it would be appropriate to “usurp legislative power to prevent a violation of the Constitution.” “In theory,” Tribe notes, “Congress could pay debts not only by borrowing more money, but also by exercising its powers to impose taxes, to coin money or to sell federal property. If the president could usurp the congressional power to borrow, what would stop him from taking over all these other powers, as well?” http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/08/opinion/08tribe.html?_r=2&ref=opinion&
