Five Republicans Now Endorse Gay Marriage: Slow Movement On Human Rights Issue!

With the announcement of Alaska Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski this week that she supports gay marriage, it now make for five leading Republicans who have endorsed the idea.

Murkowski joins Ohio Senator Rob Portman and Illinois Senator Mark Kirk in backing an idea that nearly every one of the Democrats in the Senate have already endorsed.

Former Utah Governor, Ambassador to China, and GOP Presidential contender Jon Huntsman has also backed gay marriage, as has Florida Congresswoman Ileana Ros Lehtinen.

Young Republican groups are much more in support of gay marriage, and it will take many years for most elected Republicans to accept it, but gay marriage is becoming reality, and the GOP is behind on this issue, and that will affect elections into the long term future!

When one looks back in history 50 years from now, one will wonder why it took the GOP so long to endorse a basic human right that most Americans will see as ordinary, just as much as interracial marriage is now seen after nearly 50 years of its being upheld by the Supreme Court!

In the meantime, Maine U.S. Sen. Susan Collins is holding off in case of a primary challenge. Her internal polling numbers will continue serving as her guidance.

    Furthermore…

That Autopsy-type report from “Young Republicans” was hilarious. They have no idea they’re Democrats.

    D,

I think the “Young Republicans” may be progressive Republicans.

You are correct, Princess Leia! Younger Republicans do NOT like the right wing tilt of the GOP, so unless they moderate in views, the GOP is done historically, except as dinosaurs in the House of Representatives, because of gerrymandering!

    Hello D & Leia,
That is the direction i am trying to mentor the young ones, to purge the poison, ultra conservative, reactionary mindset that the Party has lost a generation to.

It will be the Moderates, from both sides of the spectrum, where progress comes from. As we have seen from the Teabag far right wing nuts, this only gives you stagnation.

We as citizens of this country deserve better. That is why the Republican Party is looking to purge this aspect from its ranks.

Totally in agreement, Engineer Of Knowledge!

Engineer Of Knowledge, I have taken the liberty of “modifying” what you said, to make full sense out of it. If it is not correct as you wished it, let me know! πŸ™‚

LOL! Engineer of Knowledge I can totally relate to your ennui with “cell phone trlanscript modification” ! I fight with mine all the time. I have had to count on Professor Feinman to kindly modify my entries a number of times. I know for a fact he gets great pleasure in correcting this illiterate nurse! I can hear him laughing all the way up here in Md. Of course I have to remind him utilizing a 1 x 1.5 in screen typing with my thumb is different than a computer keyboard! He just doesn’t get it…….as he doesn’t use a cell phone…..He just laughs at me anyway.LOL!!!
