The Hopelessness Of The GOP In The 2016 Presidential Election Is Clear Cut!

Republicans and conservatives live in illusion and fantasy, and their horrible Congressional performance—working against women’s rights, college students, minorities, the middle class, the poor, young people, the elderly, gays and lesbians, the environment, labor—will insure that they will never become the majority in a Presidential election for the long haul!

One would think that after having lost the popular vote for President five of the past six Presidential elections, that they would have realized the wrong of their ways, but instead, they are doubling down, appealing to the Religious Right, the Neoconservatives, the Social Conservatives, and to the top two percent, as if that is a winning strategy. Somehow, they think the dwindling white older population will sustain them in the long term, and in that belief, they are truly delusional!

If they had any common sense or brains, they would realize that the Democrats have won 18 states and the District of Columbia over the past six national elections since 1992, and a total electoral vote of 242 electoral votes, and NONE of these states are likely to be lost in the future to the right wing GOP! So the “Blue” states are:

Maine
Vermont
Massachusetts
Connecticut
Rhode Island
New York
New Jersey
Pennsylvania
Delaware
Maryland
District Of Columbia
Illinois
Michigan
Wisconsin
Minnesota
Washington
Oregon
California
Hawaii

Plus, three other states voted Democratic five of the six national elections, a total of 15 electoral votes, bringing the total up to 257, 13 short of the 270 needed to win the White House, including:

New Hampshire (except in 2000)
New Mexico (except in 2004)
Iowa (except in 2004)

So the GOP, if it does not radically change its tune and quickly, will NOT win the Presidency any time in the next few generations, with the growing Hispanic-Latino vote, and the dying off of the white conservative senior citizens who wish to prevent the future, and are failing at that long term, in Virginia, Florida, North Carolina, Colorado, Nevada, Ohio, and in the near future in Texas, Georgia, Arizona and Montana! The “Red” States are dwindling rapidly!

What are you trying to say here, Juan? That the Democrats of today are the Soviet Union of old? Have you gone mad, in making such a comparison? I think it is time to see your psychiatrist and psychologist if you believe this bull crap! This is infuriating, and it takes a lot to make me angry! You are being totally ridiculous and looney!

Ron: What are you talking about? This is about Marxism/Leftism/Socialism/Communism and Nazism/Fascism and their common heritage. What does it have to do with the Democrats?

  3. Ronald June 16, 2013 7:57 pm

It comes after posting an entry about the American party, the Democrats. It has no relevance to the topic at hand!

  4. Juan Domingo Peron June 16, 2013 8:34 pm

I thought your post was an entry critical of conservatives, as always, and not really about the Democrats. And I thought it was relevant because just as you distort what conservatism is, and many even dare say conservatives are seudo fascist/naziz, so have many distorted what marxism is and its intrinsic relation with nazism. Forgetting that they are two faces of the same coin. While fascism/nazism have absolutely nothing in common with conservatism, they do share a common ideological root with marxism/socialism/communism. I’m sorry if that somehow offends you. Can’timagine why.

Plus I thought that as a historian the documentary would spark some interest in you.

The documentary is interesting, but irrelevant, and I have NEVER compared conservatism to Nazism or Fascism. But the conservatism of the GOP historically, which I consider respectable, has been hijacked by the far right evangelical and social conservatives, as well as the neoconservatives, and they are destroying the distinguished history of the Republican Party from the 1850s through the 1970s. I was showing how the Democrats are in an excellent position to keep the Electoral College majority for the long run, and I am not unique in this, as Nate Silver of the NY TIMES has stated the same by statistics and his great insights! I thought your inclusion of this video was not appropriate with that posting of mine, but as always, we have disputes, and get over it, don’t we?

Of course we get over it!

Just to add to all this and, of course, since visual illustrations can only help: The below link is to a color-coded map. (One can copy and save the image.)

Since after the 1980s, all states in red have voted Republican with each of the six presidential elections from 1992 to 2012. (Those in light red voted once for the Democrats.)

Since after the 1980s, all states in blue have voted Democratic with each of the six presidential elections from 1992 to 2012. (Those in light blue voted once for the Republicans.)

Those appearing in yellow, Nevada and Ohio, were the only states which voted with all six winning presidential/vice-presidential tickets of 1992 to 2012. (States appearing in green, Colorado, are the ones which, along those in yellow, appear to be pivotal bellwether states. Ones appearing in gray had voted with both two-term victories of Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, but are now strongly tilt to the Republican side.)

By the way: Those colored in blue every time are currently worth 242 electoral votes (89.62 percent of the required 270). With five-for-six, those in blue add up to 257 electoral votes (95.18 percent of the required 270. Those colored in red every time are worth 101 electoral votes (37.40 percent of the required 270). Factor the others which went five-for-six in red and they rise to 158 electoral votes (58.51 percent of the required 270).

  11. Ronald June 21, 2013 12:40 pm

D, you confirm what I have already said about 242 electoral votes and 257 electoral votes for the Democrats. You have now contributed the statistic of 101 electoral votes and 158 electoral votes , which I had not tallied, for the GOP!

For some reason, however, your map does not work, at least for me–as it is an all gray map, only showing the number 4 for Maine and 5 for Nebraska, but none of the colors you describe. Maybe you need to check and correct things so that this map is what you describe it as!

  12. D June 21, 2013 1:20 pm

    Ronald:

I copied and pasted the entire link to another address bar. (Just to makes sure from my end.) It did bring up the color coding and present the map as intended. But I can’t explain why it would work for me but not work for someone else. (I’m not computer tech-savvy.) Sorry about that! All it is, of course, is an illustration. (If you try again, and it fails, all I can suggest is … letting it go. Or I could send it to you an e-mail. You should have mine without my mentioning it here in public.)

One other thing to point out is this: Since after the 1980s, the only double-digit electoral-vote state won in all six presidential elections, 1992 to 2012, by the Republicans has been Texas. (Not encouraging.)

  13. Ronald June 21, 2013 6:41 pm

D, I have sent you a private email, requesting the color coded map, and thank you for that. And it is good to see that I am NOT the only person who is not computer tech savvy! LOL Is that good English? LOL hahahaha

  14. Ronald June 22, 2013 7:12 am

D, I am happy to report that the color coded map worked, both in your first and your second email, and I wish to thank you for this very useful political map, which I intend to discuss in future commentary and also in classes dealing with Presidential elections in recent years. Thanks again!
