Charles and David Koch, the infamous Koch Brothers, who promote libertarianism to the extreme, wanting no government regulation of business, and sponsors of the Tea Party Movement, as their dad was the promoter of the John Birch Society in the 1960s, are now attempting to buy up a whole group of newspapers that are in financial trouble, and need buyers to survive.
These newspapers include:
The Los Angeles Times
The Chicago Tribune
The Baltimore Sun
The Orlando Sentinel
The Fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel
The Hartford Courant
These six papers and three smaller ones are all under Tribune ownership, which is in receivership, and it seems likely that these right wing extremists will come to control the fourth and ninth largest newspapers in the nation (Los Angeles Times and Chicago Tribune), as well as the others, and in so doing, will destroy American journalism as we know it!
Added on to the control of Fox News Channel and Rupert Murdoch over the Wall Street Journal and the New York Post, it means we will see a growing extreme rightward tilt in news coverage, and the end of independent,, muckraking journalism over time!
This Koch Brothers takeover will deal a death blow to the distinguished field of news coverage, and all of us will be the losers, if that event, which seems likely, occurs!
Koch Brothers attempting to make our media one-sided = not good.
It is always the same story, no matter the continent, no matter the country, the left always despises those who are doers, those who are not only successful but help millions become independent through philanthropic and charitable work, always attacking those who offer millions of people the tools to become independent and sovereign from the state. Most media outlets are owned by a handful of conservative corporations and individuals, and funded by usually economically conservative advertisers. This pro-corporate conservative bias of the media is well-documented and shows itself in consistent under-reporting or ignoring of any information that would lead people to question the fundamental status quo.
Thus, the media is not liberal. It is right-wing, and nowhere moreso than in talk radio. The progressive counter-voice must grow if America is to have the balanced dialogue needed to inform people of what they must know to run a democracy.

As much as I hate to agree with Juan, as long as the Koch brothers abide by federal laws governing media ownership, a true believer in the first amendment may not like the political views that will change under a possible purchase of former great newspapers.
Print media is dying and there are enough counterbalancing views for those seeking unbiased and credible reporting. I hate the Faux Noise Nutwork as much as the next person, but under the first amendment they have as much right to spin their spiel as any other news network. They will only be preaching to the choir anyway.
I must admit, Paul, that you are correct. Hopefully, their views will not become more popular!
