Terrorism Tax Essential To Deal With Threats To National Security!

It is clear after the Boston Marathon tragedy that we will be dealing with the imminent threat of terrorism, whether external or internal, for many years, even decades.

At the same time, we have many who tell us we must cut Social Security and Medicare for the elderly, veterans, and the disabled. We are also told we cannot afford health care and education,. and that millions of Americans must be sacrificed on the altar of never raising taxes!

Well, it is time that those opposed to tax increases, in a nation with the lowest tax burden of any democracy in the world, start reconsidering.

So a proposal is to recognize the dangers that face us, and to see that we are engaged in a different kind of war, and in all wars except under George W. Bush, taxes went up to support the war.

So we need a “Terrorism Tax”, and it should be one percent on incomes under $25,000; two percent on incomes up to $50,000; three percent on incomes up to $100,000; four percent on incomes up to $250,000; five percent on incomes up to $1 million; and six percent on all income above $1 million, including unearned income!

The author knows he will be attacked for such a heinous suggestion as a “Terrorism Tax”, but our security and safety requires sacrifices from all of us, and those with higher income and assets should be expected to contribute more to the nation that has helped to give them opportunity to prosper!

As John F. Kennedy said in his Inaugural Address in 1961, all of us should share the responsibility of promoting our nation and advancing its agenda, that we cannot afford as citizens to sit on the sidelines and leave responsibility to others. Let us fulfill what Kennedy enunciated 52 years ago!

I knew that would be your reaction, Juan! You lack patriotism and concern for anyone other than yourself, it is clear to me! YES, we always had taxes raised in wartime, and this is WAR, and it is time we pay up for our security, without victimizing millions less fortunate than you and me! I am willing to do my share, without complaint, and you need to do the same! And I did not exempt those at the bottom of the income scale, but a lower rate, which is justified!

    For the FY 2012 the Federal Government spent $2.9 billion on FBI counter-terrorism and $46.9 billion on Homeland Security. But we also had at least $19 billion in wasteful spending during 2012. And I am not talking about SS, Medicare or Medicaid! There is a collection of 100 examples of wasteful spending for 2012, among them;
-subsidizing phone service at a cost of nearly $1.5 billion a year.
-NASA spends $1 million each year on developing “the Mars menu.”
-A $325,000 grant for the development of “Robosquirrel” – a robotic rodent designed to test the interaction between rattlesnakes and squirrels.
    – An estimated $70 million loss for producing pennies
Nearly $700,000 from the National Science Foundation to a New York-based theater company so it could develop a musical about climate change and biodiversity. “The Great Immensity” opened in Kansas City this year. Along with the songs one reviewer described as sounding like “a Wikipedia entry set to music,” the audience was also able to experience “flying monkey poop.”

Just think about it. $19 BILLION vs $2.9 BILLION for the FBI counter-terrorism unit! That’s more than 6 TIMES what is spent on counter-terrorism! $19 BILLION v $46.9 BILLION on Homeland Security! That’s almost half of what is spent on Homeland Security. You could increase Homeland Security’s budget by 50% if government didn’t throw our money away! And all you can think of is a new Terrorism Tax?! Good grief!

The glut of taxes Americans are forced to pay is another form of terrorism.

A little bit of humor. The discrepancy between the official narrative and the everyday reality: Comparison between yesterday’s socialist Russia and America today.
The six contradictions of socialism in the USSR
    1. There is no unemployment – yet no one is working.
    2. No one is working – yet the factory quotas are fulfilled.
    3. The factory quotas are fulfilled – yet the stores have nothing to sell.
    4. The stores have nothing to sell – yet people’s homes are full of stuff.
    5. People’s homes are full of stuff – yet no one is happy.
    6. No one is happy – yet the voting is always unanimous.
Let’s see how an old Soviet joke can be rewritten into a new American joke.
The six contradictions of progressivism (aka socialism in the rest of the world) in the United States of America
    1. America is capitalist and greedy – yet half of the population is subsidized.
    2. Half of the population is subsidized – yet they think they are victims.
    3. They think they are victims – yet their representatives run the government.
    4. Their representatives run the government – yet the poor keep getting poorer.
    5. The poor keep getting poorer – yet they have things that people in other countries only dream about.
    6. They have things that people in other countries only dream about – yet they want America to be more like those other countries.

One thing I would like to see is this: No wars unless every president, vice president, cabinet member, and member of both houses of Congress either fight in these wars … or that they have a minimum of two family members (one who has to biologically related) become soldiers in their wars.

I know we are not going to see presidents and vice presidents go to fight. But to have two family members each would help give a clearer perspective on whether getting into such wars is worthy and legitimate. Unlike the war in Iraq.

Ron: I must admit that I thought your Terrorism Tax was unbelievable,(or should I say terrorizing?) but I didn’t realize that you had been already outdone, none other than by Big Government Progressive Democrat Governor O”Malley of Maryland! There actually exist such a thing as a “Rain tax” LOL! Unbelievable.. truly unbelievable. As you can see and know very well, a “rationale” for a new tax can always be found! (http://baltimore.cbslocal.com/2013/04/14/surface-tax-will-cost-md-property-owners-every-time-it-rains/)
What’s next, ‘a tax on sun?’

Actually, Juan, although I think it likely that either Hillary Clinton or Joe Biden will be the Democratic nominee in 2016, and I like both of them, IF the decision was to go for a “new” face, my favorite would actually be Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley, who I think has a great future on the national level, although it might be delayed by Clinton or Biden. And my second choice would be Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren. However, Hillary has a strong likelihood of running, and will be difficult to stop!
