A Time For Foreign Policy Experts To Be Utilized Over Korean Crisis–Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Al Gore, Bill Richardson, Jon Huntsman

The crisis that has arisen over North Korea’s bullying and nuclear threats represents a danger to international stability in Asia, worrying not only the United States, but also South Korea and Japan, and even next door neighbor China.

Kim Jong Un, 29 years old, is clearly a wild card in the greatest description of the term, and could incite a major war that could devastate prosperous South Korea, and endanger US troops there and in Japan and the American territory of Guam, along with what seems like crazy threats to Hawaii, California, Texas, and Washington DC.

The new Secretary of State, John Kerry, and the new Secretary of Defense, Chuck Hagel, have their hands full, and rationality and balance in response is required of President Barack Obama in what could become the major foreign policy crisis of his administration.

In the past, former Presidents and Vice Presidents have been utilized as contacts with North Korea—meaning Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and Al Gore, along with former New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson.

Additionally, former Ambassador to China Jon Huntsman is an acknowledged expert on China and its neighbors.

It might be time to utilize Carter, Clinton, Gore, Richardson or Huntsman to figure out how to communicate with Kim Jong Un and resolve the tinderbox without war. President Obama would be wise to consider such diplomacy, in order to cut down the chance of war that no one can win!

    Hello Professor,
We have seen this attention getting scenario all too often before.

North Korea cannot feed their population so like a spoiled child, they start throwing tantrums to get what they want. The world community is as much to blame because as the collective Nations have rewarded North Korea repeatedly that “If they don’t build a nuclear bomb, if they don’t build long range missiles, if they turn down the rhetoric of invading South Korea, etc.;” the rest of us will give them wheat and other staples to feed their population preventing them from mass starving’s.

As this has gone on for decades, the North Korea’s dominate military along with a young, 29 year old leader, Kim Jong Un; have known nothing else but to repeat what has worked in the past.

As I see it today, it will be the art of diplomatic addressing North Korea, and to break this repeating pattern, but at the same time not cause an overreaction from the North.

I would also extend this thought to the current events in Iran. As the current Iranian sanctions have a detrimental economic effect on Iran, one can expect a higher level of “Saber Rattling” from Iran. I would also point out that it has to be in the minds of Iran’s leaders, that North Korea who have nuclear weapons, have not been invaded for over 60 years. Iraq and Afghanistan did not have nuclear weapons and were invaded. Ergo, if you have nuclear weapons you will not be invaded by the United States and the rest of the world.

So in summation, the mindset legacy being left behind from the past, “If it continues to work in North Korea, then it will surely work in Iran.”

How the world handles North Korea today will have global effects for years to come….and the downside aspect is….there may not be any good, viable, answers available to us today.

Carter a totally inept President, Gore so imbalanced I would not give him a license to buy a weapon and Clinton who looked straight at you and lied. I see progressives have very low standards indeed.

Carter was NOT totally inept, and is too smart, which upsets you, Dave. I guess you are not aware that he is seen as an international statesman!

Al Gore, who was really elected President, is a brilliant guy, but that, of course, scares you as well!

Clinton may have been a liar on his sex life, but he is also a brilliant intellectual, which scares people like you. And his record in office far surpasses Bush I or Bush II!

Meanwhile, Bush II was a cocaine abuser, an alcoholic, and basically not very bright, and an embarrassment to his dad, an accomplished man.

And Dick Cheney had two DUIs, as compared to Bush’s one–just the type of people we need in power, right?

And Reagan was no heavyweight in the brains department, and basically, others ran the Presidency in his second term, including his wife Nancy!

So Republicans and conservatives have NOT very bright low lifes, very low standards indeed!

If you cannot be trusted with my daughter I will not give you my country as well. Gore whored himself to middle east oil profiteers that he railed against, yeah progressives have very low standards.

And the Bush family is long tied to the Arabs, Saudi Arabia in particular–so even on that issue no different –and Republicans are much more linked to middle east oil historically than Democrats!
