    I suggest you get your facts straight.” PRINCETON, NJ — President Barack Obama averaged 49.1% job approval during his first term in office, among the lowest for post-World War II presidents. Only Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford had lower job approval averages. Obama’s first-term average is most similar to Bill Clinton’s. Lyndon Johnson, John Kennedy, and Dwight Eisenhower were the most popular first-term presidents.”- Gallup. http://www.gallup.com/poll/159965/obama-averages-approval-first-term.aspx?utm_source=alert&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=syndication&utm_content=morelink&utm_term=All%20Gallup%20Headlines

    It all depends on which poll you use, but the CNN poll stated 52 percent. It is true that Obama’s public opinion rating is lower than most Presidents at the time of the second inauguration.

    Also, going by the Gallup poll, Obama is only about one percentage point lower than Reagan in 1985, despite the fact that he had won all but one state in the 1984 election, and half a percentage point behind Bill Clinton. So you can always play with numbers. But considering the polarizing climate that exists, Obama is way above the GOP, Speaker John Boehner, the Congress, and the Tea Party in popularity.

    Dr. Feinman has ANY congress ever had this low a rating? T

    Juan…. with all due respect… considering the obstrctionist bent of the republican congress, dedpite it. Mr. Obama got allot done during his first term.
    Now the Americsn people are on to this congress and WE are not going to tolerate another 4 years of their games. They are now facing a President who is no longer naive nor trusting that this dysfunctional republican lead congress will behave as adults committed to working for the American people like they were elected to do. He will not play their games again.
    And finally the only statistic I think is important is the number representing the majority that reelected President Barack Obama to a second term! : )

    Margaret: You seem to have a certain authoritarian bend. What do you mean we are no going to tolerate..? I am sorry to inform you that just as the American people elected Obama, they also elected Congress and thus we have a divided government just like the founders wanted. I know that for the people who support Obama and the progressive movement this is intolerable, but any other system would give us a Chavez like government. Which we had for the first 2yrs, when President Obama had both chambers of Congress on his side. But now he does not. Sorry. Just imagine if it were the other way around, like with Bush when he had one chamber in hands of the Democrats, remember? The idea than was to resist, and resist. And the left resisted. So now it is time for those of us who believe in individual freedom to resist. And resist we will.

    Juan, sorry to disappoint you.. What I was referring to is Americans, both Republicans and Democrats are recognizing that they need to become more proactive. The have recognized the the republican lead congress and the Republican minority in the Senate have been playing partisan games which have hurt this country and people! The American people don’t have a problem with a divided government, it’s a do “nothing congress” they are sick of. Just look at the rating for the current congress!
    It’s high time this stops and they start earning the money we the tax payers pay them. If you work at a job and spend your time doing nothing…would you have that job very long?
    Becoming proactive, writing, emailing and calling your elected representative, expressing your views and researching voting records on the people you have elected is hardly a Chavaz type goverment.
    You haven’t heard Democrats threatening to get their guns out and start a civil war have you? The right wing has been doing exactly that since before President Obama was elected. The pitch has risen to a much higher level recently with the discussion of increased gun safety. I don’t think intolerance describes a Liberal or Progressive point of view….but intolerance is exactly what the right wing advocates. That is a Chavez type government Juan.
    I think Juan you are playing a little game…baiting any Progressive blogger you can find, aren’t you? I think someone who does that is called a “troll”. : )
    It’s certainly your right, knock yourself out! : ) I am confident Dr. Feinman is superlatively capable of defending his statements and positions, supporting both with facts, logic and empirical data.

    Maggie – why do you only mention the Republicans when it comes to playing “partisan games”? Don’t Democrats in Congress and the man in the White House also excel at such games?

    @Maggie – Exactly right! 🙂
