Zbigniew Brzezinski’s Characterization Of The Republican Presidential Field: Priceless!

Zbigniew Brzezinski, former National Security Adviser to President Jimmy Carter, was on CNN’s Fareed Zakaria GPS today, and was asked, as part of the interview, his feelings about the final four contenders for the GOP Presidential nomination.

His response, in one paragraph, was absolutely priceless, the best characterization yet heard about them.

Rick Santorum—sounds like a medieval Savonarola, referring to medieval Catholic monk Girolamo Savonarola, who lived in Florence, Italy, and condemned what he considered immoral art, promoted book burning, and attacked the Catholic Church leadership and the Pope for being corrupt and immoral. For a while, he ran a personal theocracy in Florence, but was then excommunicated, tortured and executed by order of Church authorities.

Mitt Romney—spends his time explaining why some of his wealth is in the Cayman Islands, rather than in American banks.

Ron Paul—wants to take America back to the 1780s and the Founding Fathers.

Newt Gingrich—using his credentials as a repudiated Speaker of the House (by his own party) to claim he should be President.

Brzezinski said all four are embarrassing as candidates for the Presidency, and progressives will certainly agree with this assessment!

    Hello Professor,
Ah Yes, the good O’l “Bonfire of the Vanities.” Where would we be without the (Girolamo Savonarola)s or the (Rick Santorum)s of the world. Just as I believe Girolamo Savonarola was a self-loathing individual who projected that personal hate onto others, I would think that Ricky is no different and of the same mold…..so I will quote from the 1970’s song, “Sun Shine,” “He can’t even run his own life, I’ll be damn if he’ll run mine!”

With Romney keeping his money in the Cayman Islands, just tells me that it was because he knew how the American Banks were being raped and ripped off, and did so to selfishly protecting only himself…..the rest of the country’s “Middle Class” be damned to pick up the pieces. The word “Narcissus” comes to mind.

Now with regards to Ron Paul….he wants to take America back to HIS twisted view of what he pretends the Founding Father’s vision were….not reality.

Newt Gingrich is just a waste pile of corrupted scraps and it is beyond me why the people of Georgia have not woken up to that fact….too much inbreeding I guess.

Even though my family has a 150 year plus legacy of being Republicans, (since West Virginia seceded from Virginia to say with the Union during the Civil War) I have no intentions of voting for anyone of this group in November’s election.

My only confusion is which “Wing Nut” is the goofiest to vote for in the Republican Primary as I want to vote for the Worst of the Worst just to make it a joke?

What a circus. Republicans condemn condoms! Republicans praise rape as a gift from God. Republicans endorse trans-vaginal probes. Republicans hate women (and men who want to plan their families). What’s next? Republicans mandate missionary-position only? Hey, Newt was right. ‘Cause Newt and all his Republican friends SHOULD set up a moon colony…. AND GO THERE! Then, they could tell each other what to do and how to live and who to love…. while leaving the REST of us alone, here on Earth. Newt, I always KNEW that you were a problem-solver. Unfortunately, you and your Republican friends ARE the problem…

    Now Stan,
If you read more carefully, you will see I am in the same camp as you…and maybe more liberal…try again please. 🙂
