If the Republican Party did not process the reality of the danger of the Tea Party Movement on their party and its future, it should now be very clear!
Tea Party Nation founder Judson Phillips has declared war on Speaker of the House John Boehner, due to the fact that Boehner seems not to understand that the Tea Party Nation means what it says, that $100 billion must be cut from the present fiscal year budget, and instead the House majority Republicans have settled on $61 billion instead.
The fact that the $61 billion is a reckless cut that will hurt the poor, the sick, the elderly, the young, and veterans has no effect on Phillips and his ilk, so therefore he now suggests that John Boehner himself seems not to get the message, and that someone needs to come along and challenge Boehner in his congressional district in the Cincinnati, Ohio, area to teach Boehner a lesson, and make clear to the GOP who is the boss of the future!
The Republican party has gone to bed with a radical right faction that is very willing to destroy the party in its mad race to the 19th century Gilded Age!
If Boehner and other GOP leaders allow this insanity to continue, and if the state governors continue to follow the destructive path of Scott Walker in Wisconsin, John Kasich in Ohio, Chris Christie in New Jersey, and Rick Scott in Florida, then the Republican Party will be totally destroyed by this cancer eating it up alive!
It is time to take a stand and say NO to this destructive, anarchistic movement which has no good purpose except to destroy the middle class, and put all of it into total poverty!
But the good thing is that the Tea Party Movement will discover it has met its match, as the middle class and the poor will organize and back the Democratic Party as the true promoter of the interests of the vast majority of the American people!
What is reckless is spending money you don’t have and pulling in more and more debt you don’t have money to pay the interest on, tomorrow.
Professor, I have to wonder why no one will further explore defense budget cuts. The Tea Party did one thing right in standing with some Democrats in the refusal to spend money on military projects that were deemed wasteful, I think it was in regards to the F16’s, but I could be wrong.
The Republicans viewed the tea party movement as a grass roots effort to connect with the middle class and try to have the same success the Democrats had during Obama’s run, but they didn’t pay ENOUGH attention to the rhetoric used by many of the Tea Party candidates. Now it appears that it’s coming back to bite them in the rear.
As a liberal, I can only hope that the momentum moving in the Tea Party’s direction creates a schism in the party and results in a 3 party system, but that’s just a dream at this point. If that doesn’t happen, then the hope is like you mentioned, the Democratic party taking away the votes of the disillusioned who propped the Tea Party into power. Hopefully the middle class and all working class Americans realized that the Republicans, especially the radical Tea Party, do not have a vested interest in them.
I think these extreme right wingers need to sit in on history lecture or two. Maybe not so much the rich people heading the movement because I am sure they are well educated and just greedy but the lower and middle class supporters need to learn where such harsh government cut backs have landed us in the past. I am actually getting scared for the future of our country. So we make all these “frivolous” spending cuts, pay a part of our national debt, and dump a good portion of the American people into poverty. Is it worth it?
