The Number One Priority For 2010: JOBS, JOBS, JOBS!

President Obama made clear tonight in his State of the Union Address that the number one priority for 2010 is Jobs, Jobs, Jobs!

He called for a quick adoption of a jobs legislation program, and he well knows that if the job situation does not improve, it will affect his party and his own agenda, so the expectation is that he will be very aggressive in pursuit of economic growth.

He called on the Republican opposition to drop partisanship and join together in the creation of economic plans that will benefit not only those who gain employment, but the nation at large.

This is truly time to drop partisanship and do the right thing–back the President in the creation of economic opportunity that will lead us back to prosperity!

Interesting note: The Republican response to Obama’s speech voiced little concern for non-partisan efforts. Governor McDonnell continued the Republican’s stance of- you either implement our policies or we will continue to hold up legislative efforts-. At least that is the way I see it. Do not get me wrong, it is important to have discussion and dissent, but it is fundamental to our democracy that both parties put aside their “my way or highway” mentality. There needs to be more give and take between Republican and Democratic Congressmen and women. Obama signaled a willingness to work with Republicans- ex. many of the tax credits and cuts he supported for small business-. However, it is up to Congress to come together and work through our differences in order to secure a more promising future.
